It’s just a generic hardtail, hardly reminiscent of the world cup winning times of Nicolas Vouilloz & Anne-Caroline Chausson.

But very reminiscent of the winning times of Christophe Dupouey and Miguel Martinez.

It does depends were you live. Trans-provence territory here, and although on the hardtail I don’t use the granny I find that sometimes you realy need it. That’s if you don’t want to push.

Of course he can say that. I, along with almost any other sane person, think he’s wrong, but he can say it.

Who the hell is he anyway. And you’re far from being a sane person, you riding a fraking specialized

    @ninfan
, yes indeed, very scary times. France has the largest Muslim population in Europe. Things are going to be very very tense.

I stopped reading the post after that. So sorry if it has already been answered, but the situation isn’t going to change. This isn’t the first time France as been targeted by acts of terrorism (the latest in mind is the killing in the Jewish school) and it won’t change anything as usual. Obvioulsy some fools are going to vote LePen, but I am pretty damn sure that this shooting will do less for the FN than the success less politics of both the latest UMP and PS government.

yeah i know about a NW 39 chain ring :(
It always seems to fall of on the higest gear and always on the outer side of the ring

    I’ll keep an eye open for e 40th with a 125 bca.

well after almost one year on commuting doing the odd rod ride (abliet less than 80 kms each time) here is my take on my set up :
    Sram X7 39 T front ring with sram X0 shifters and X9 rear mech, sram 12-34 0 speed K7.
Well it’s kinda spot on, obviously I do miss the 50 during the 3minutes descent from work but only when i want to crank it down. As for the gearing i don’t find it too spread out sure something a bit close will be nice but I can easily cope with what i have at the moment.
The only down side is the fact that the front ring drops on a not so occasional basis. Waiting for a narrow wide 39 front ring in 125 BCA to fix that.

Don’t think shimano would ever run out of mechs of one type or another.

Hummm ever tried to get your hand on a rapid rise 10 or 9 speed rear mech?

Many shops and distributors see bearings as ‘consumables’

And as a matter of fact they are. A bearing don’t fail after a couple of rides. It is bugger up from the factory or one way or the other you’ve fouck it up.
For example DT SWISS warranty on bearing after 3 month is none, it’s a part that is subject to wear and therefore non subject to warranty.

instead i would take 1 month of work and ride the shit out of my bike, on plenty of different places

Careful with Nice, you may ride with short sleeves, or wishing you brought your skis rather than your bike.
If you end up in Nice give me a shout I’ll try to give you some pointers.

I have a 39/1& and although it is sometime a bit of a short ratio, on the massive downhill from work, I can outride very fast people on a 52/12 by never braking (who then overtake me again on the flat bit). So far to be honest I never use the smallest gear, so for me a 11/32 with a 39 front makes a lot of sense**

** I am not a roadie, therefore barely ride more tha 80-90 kms in one go.

Gilles, to answer your question yes.
SC are imported in France via race company. Owing the size and versatility of their catalogue it should be dead easy to have a LBS near you who has a open working account with them.

No way I’ll drop the granny, not in the south of France, as I use on an almost regular basis the 22/32 on my 26″ HT.

9spd Shimano MTB mechs will work with 10spd Shimano road shifters iirc.

Now that is a very good news indeed .
