Capitalism, don’t you just love it.

Wait until a board of complete strangers decide they want more money from the shares of your company and decide to make you redundant and delocalise in china.

I wonder what this has cost the tax paying in lost revenue, overtime for Police and damage to property.

Probably less than the 324 billions €.

Several things people are protesting about
Most important is the 324 billions € of tax payer money the **** we french have as head of state has given to the banks.
Then comes the endless reduction in public services.
Then comes the fact people are getting poorer each day.

Generally it’s against the this piece of shite called capitalism really.
And so on and so on.

There’s nothing different about the stresses components will experience here in the UK to the Alps

Living in the alps and having spend 4 years in UK let me tell you one thing you are just plain plain wrong.
Here shimano HT II bottom bracket are the panacée, singlespeed is a swearing, and I have yet to see one fox that had the stanchions worn out.

Most of the stress/use put on a component in the UK comes from the mud/weather conditions. Most of the stress/use put on a component here comes from the toughness and the length of the descents.

Then I think it come to the rider. I don’t brake stuff, neither in the alps nor in UK. Put it on the fact that I weight 61kg, or the fact that I have learn to ride in the alps while I was student and hence couldn’t afford to brake/change loads, but generally I do not break stuff. I wouldn’t consider myself slow either (well that was the case before 4 years in UK). However stuff wears out faster due to “normal use in the UK”. Thing like bottom brackets, chains, headset and pads last much longer in the alps than in UK.

That is about the chaviest joke a british can do about Nice.
Obviously it could have been worst. Domino could have visited Nice and Eze…

Hope that wont put you off though. If you are coming down drop me a line ton I’ll show you the trails around.

your freeride bike, although I’m still not clear what that actually is either?

Rocky mountain switch, so a proper free ride bike. It was ok until I came to the UK so I am hoping to be able to ride it again in a couple of month for shortish rides.

well I know 5mm won’t make any difference it’s just to make sense. I can’t ride my FR bike at the moment I am way to bad rider.

Plus It’s 15-16 kg and as I don’t ride as much as I use to the 6 hours long rides are getting a bit tiresome. I don’t want to buy another free ride bike, it would be useless my rocky as I won’t be good enough to ride it.
So I need something a bit easier/lighter with less travel basically. I will keep the rocky for when I get better for shuttle days in Triora.

The orange and the kona one20 look very nice with about the correct amount of travel 100-120) I’ll dig into it.

Peter buying a cotic will be just asking for trouble in terms of warranty (plus it’s way too expensive).

well wanted an LX cassette and shifters and LBS said don’t bother
Either buy deore, it will work just the same and probably weight not much, or if weight is an issue just buy XT.

So ended up buying a pair of Deore shifters and a XT cassette.

Well I have yet to hear about racist insults around a rugby pitch. I have yet to hear about the same number of car/crash drunk driving or rape allegation in rugby.
Funnily enough the wendyball seems to attract all the nastiest guys.

If you look at the UCI top twenty best MTB’ers I bet 99.999999% of them do the majority of their training on road bikes.

You mean top twenty XC racers… As DHs and trialist probably do some mountain biking some times to times.

    Nice here

To be honest I miss the “british way of life”.
Place here is filled up with little ****, trains are most of the time late. Uni is a disaster and could use with a good H&S.

I think at the end of the year It’s very likely I’ll go back to the UK. Wouldn’t mind living in a nice place like York.

    druidh meta has 140 mm.

taxi I am not bothered about the weight. 13-15 kg will be just fine. I’ll probably be using DH tyres anyway to avoid punctures.

Peter dawg are now 140 mm :(

    juan

Wookster yes I have seen it. Peter, the dawg has too much travel I am looking around 120 because my FR bike has 125mm and I can’t really commit myself to buy something with more travel. But I agree the dawg looks very nice.

I’ll see if I can get my LBS to get the orange has test bike.

enduro = back country = all mountain = free ride = whatever you call it.
It’s just a bike for me.

I’ll have a look to the orange ST4.

    don’t moan.
Cycle this morning to get a non-tried train a bit earlier that is suppose to be faster only to find out that:
It was 20 minutes late, the journey was meant to be 25 minutes.
There is no bike rack inside because it’s an old and very crappy train.
Usually when it’s the case you give your steed to the staff that takes it with him in his/hers box (there is some bike hooks). The box wasn’t fit with hook and the staff was an absolute bitch.
Get to the station in Nice and ask to a staff about how I could complain about the unusual length of the journey, the rudeness of the staff, the poor quality of the train only to got told that he was busy (texting on his mobile) and to see it with the information point.

See it could have been much more worst.

What molgrips said. I found generally mtbers to act much more like arrogant mini poo heads than climbers/mountaineers. Specially since the mtbers with a very big mouth are usually the one that push their bike the most.

I do think you have open your mouth without knowing anything about the subject fred. As said the avalanche risks wasn’t inconsiderate. I use to go snow shoeing a lot on my own, and with a risk of 3 I would still go out even on my own. I’ll probably stay somewhere where I know it’s safe, slope is not too important and where I am likely to meet a lot of people.

can anyone see a downside to caping engine size at say 2000cc?

Not me. It will not happen as HGV will need much bigger engines.
To be honest I cant really understand why manufacturers still produce cars that can go up to 200 MPH or go from 0 to 60 in 2 second, just complete non sense to me.

    Thanks all

I was planning in spending around 300€ anyway, as it’s very important to be able to sleep well.

I’ll have a look to memory foam mattresses tomorrow, anything I should avoid? Any clever question I should ask?

    Mucho love juan
