Well I for once agree with coffeeking but hey what do I know…

Ooh, I dunno; that looks quite tricky,

funkynick no not at all I have used the other thread for that ;)
    It’s a question I have asked myself
Actually I would like to have chipp to answer that as well, is it doable for them to have in one mag a test of ALL the 110-120 FS for example or ALL the steel hardtail available or all the 150-150 FS bikes.

And if you are a LBS how do you do? You surely can’t stock every brand.

    What Gary_M says.
Interestingly JM Mecier (you probably don’t know him) has wrote (has written?) a book to denounce the capitalism.

    That just made me laugth

Saturation point has to be reached at some point

I think it did a feww years ago.
I would love to here LBS owners opinion about that.

Well I think there is too many lets say you want a FS with 110-120 mm of travel how many are you going to have?
Let say I want a steel HT? Same too many it can’t be good for the trade.
Too much with very little difference one to another…
What are the differences between a trak a kona a veneta a cove and a turner.
None, I am sure that none of us will spot the difference if we were to do a blind test.

I think life would be much happier if less bike brand existed.

mr smith, what would you prescribe we buy then, that is just has good but cheaper.

Than a ventana or a turner well a kona indeed…
I did fall in the “niche” trap. My two first FS were rocky mountains. A fanatic (like a element race) and the first switch.
Was there a difference between the switch and a stinky in terms of riding, well very little. To be honest I have tried plenty of kona at this time and couldn’t really find any of them being very different than the switch. They were just cheaper than the RM. Then you could argue the attention to detail, and quality of build are better on the RM. But that is hardly going to change the quality of the ride.

MTB industrie is like japanses motorbikes industrie. Each year the new gsxrbusa-x9-r1 is much better than the previous year model that already was the best bike in the world…

However if you buy a bike without trying it you are an idiot…

And, let’s be honest, if that poor family hadn’t been in the wrong place at the wrong time and he had hit a lonely rep in a Mondeo, none of us would have heard about it, as the press wouldn’t have whipped it into a frenzy

    That is soooo true

I for once agree with TJ (****) you can’t do anything against people screwing up. Everyday when I was commuting in southampton I was seeing people playing with their phones, eating, reading the newspaper fafing around with the cigarettes or getting make up on. All of them new it wasn’t probably the most sensible things to do. And it probably happened to me, as I am a fan a a nice and good thermos of tea for motorway trip. Save TJ (he doesn’t own a driving licence) it probably happen to all of us even on the bike (who NEVER ran a traffic light or jumped on the kerb).
I fail to see how jail can make a difference, unless obviously you are thinking revenge rather than justice.
takisawa2 all my eldest in my family are spanish, how am I supposed to consider your post?

Fingerbike fair enough, didn’t new you could do that.
As I said I am just wondering due to all the gear you need to buy to commute in safe and comfortable conditions if it’s greener than taking the train or the bus.
What is the carbon footprint of a fluoro jacket from the raw materials to your back?

Yeah I have to agree with TJ :(

I use to night ride on my own in LW without even a phone until my best friend blackmailed me to force me to take a phone, mind you once I almost died on WCA woodwork. But I never was bothered to ride alone, even in the alps, just take our phone and let someone know where you going. Plus as said there is usually always someone on the trail

Well as I said I will mainly be moving my change of clothes for a week, maybe my laptop (I can still carry it on my messenger bag but I’d rather make the most of the pannier) and once a week my judo stuff (a towel and the gi) not very heavy but quite important in term of volume.

I’ll pop to the LBS and see what they can have.

well I commute by bike not by car even if it did cost me more. Think is if you already own a car going to work with it isn’t going to cost you the inssurance on the top of it.

You are right about not buying stuff every 3 month, but then the first time you buy them it still cost you money… Plus how long is a jacket going to last you if you use it everyday into town etc etc. Mine is 6 month old and not waterproof anymore, and that does not solve the food bill. In my case I had to drastically increased my food consumption before getting sick thin…

    what do you mean kelvin?
i had to buy a lock a Hi-vis jacket so that cost me around 60£ that’s 3 week of petrol.
Then I bought a rear light to commute 17.5£.
Plus before I commute by car I lived 200 m from the door of my lab when I started commuting I tripled my food bill… But then I run on quite expensive stuff.

To be honest I have always been wondering if cycling is that “greener” (way for TJ to come and spout his bile) compare to other mean of transportation like public transport.

You could say you don’t burn fossile fuel, but on the other hand, lets face it you need to buy a fair amount fo things to be able to commute in a safe and comfy way.

Lights, locks, fluoro jackets, waterproof trousers rack and pannier. Plus you tend to eat more, so more food to process go to the shop more rubbish etc etc.

I have calculated that during the 3 month I have been commuting by bike in southampton it actually cost me more that if I’d commute by car.

But I am liking the idea of the rack to be honest so I can go to the market on sunday morning if my mum let me

I am not very keen on a seatpost rack. I am paranoid it will spin.

Worst case scenario I’ll need to get the laptop and my judo stuff. Not very heavy but quite bulky.

It’s so hard to save the planet ;)

They always be people that they think they deserved the most expensive the best.

Brits are very lucky to have hope. They make amazing brake and even more amazing hubs. They are priced just right if you ask me, but then you are on a forum where people buy new bits to get better skills.
