uplink nope but something that is going to give me a hint about how the bike is tested.

When you pay 4£ for a mag you expect a bit more of a test than one page with half of it filled up by a static picture of the bike.
I’d like to know how many hours the bike has been ridden, by whom, where, what did they did with it etc etc…
    You know basic stuff

No really the point I was making… Plus it was for the real ben… From ST mag

Ben is that a real test?
The last st mag I wanted, had the test commencal VS orange. It was only 2 pages short. It’s a bit cheapish to make your mind…

On a positive note, that 2 grand scrapping bonus should go a long way to helping our car industry recover.

Well this scheme is workign here for a few month
Government gives you a grand if you scrap your car.
    Car dealers double it.
Car dealers usually gives you the eco-tax too.
So you can save 2700 € on your junk/old car.

Result, there is no cheap car second hand anymore. No one is going to buy middle class second hand cars (4000-5000€ mark) as it would be cheaper to buy a brand new twingo…

Results, second hand market is all wrong, it still give the feeling to the **** car makers that they still can plan a +10% this year.

    Stupid if you ask me.

    Well things have changed now
Being at work at 8h30 involves
    by car:
    Leave at 7h35
    Spend 4.20€ in toll
Get stuck in traffic jams after exit 49 of the A8
Burn around 3 litres of petrol.
    by train and bike:
    leave at 7h00
Catch 7h25 (when not late/canceled) fast train to Nice in Cannes
    arrive in Nice at 7h50.
Pit stop at the bakers get at uni at 8h00/8h10/
    Get shower and tea
    Or

    leave at 7h15
Catch 7h29 (when not late/canceled) cross country train to Nice in Cannes la bocca

Train cost me 57€ a month plus at the moment 1.4€ a day at bakers but I am trying to cut that down.

You’ve trotted this fact-ette out before and I can only assume that

    a) You were given your car
    b) You’re not paying tax, insurance or MOT, and
    c) You only eat foie gras and truffles.
    a) Well I already had a car so I did not bought it just to commute. Not the cas of my commuting trousers, jacket rack and soon to come pannier.
    b) French car in UK so only insurance that I had to pay anyway.
So your two first point are only valid if you buy a car on purpose just for the 5 miles commute.
    c) Nope but I do agree I probably have different taste than you in terms of food.

    You did perfect
That was actually on the first van manual.
Try to store your bike upside down or return it 10 minutes before every ride. Change bushings every year.
    Sorted.

Shout at them to alert tehm to your prescence.

Last time I did that with a clap of my hand on the back of the car, the driver willing tried to run me over. So might not be the smartest idea.
I owe my life to a guy in the flat audi that pulled out of the parking space without looking forcing the guy in the german SUV to stop.

You guy don’t know how lucky you are in UK.

    This invites overtaking when inappropriate

Yes but here failure to do so invites agresive comment shooting and being called a “bad cyclist”

How can people save money while commuting by bike?
WhenI started commuting in southampton the increase off food was exaclty the cost of the petrol to go working.

I try not to increase the food but start to loose weight (get under 60 kg) to the point where people ask me if I was ok as I look like a walking skeleton.

    juan

Why don’t people just lose some weight themselves????

STW syndroma… If easier bike to carry uphill or skill compensator to go down can’t be purchase using a debit/credit card it’s not worth it 😉

Don’t think it’s just a nasty carpet burn you get!

I know that but I can’t see cordura jacket or a kevlar jeans offering less protection in real life over a leather. On a track where you are going to slide endlessly on the other end.

Road safety fences have the rather nice nickname of “guillontines” down here…

Don’t underestimate the damage you’ll do sliding down the motorway once you’ve rubbed your way through the denim

Agree about the sliding, however on the motorway I’ll be more concerned about lorry/car and this nasty piece of shite called safety railway that I am going to hit way before I have to worry about growing my skin back.
