I’ve got a set of 2012 120mm Rebas – anyone know of any good service vids / guides?

That’s a lot of money for some old Project 2s…would sir be interested in the latest suspension technology, they’re called elastomers and save problems with air and oil seals

I think they said freehub – mine’s ok at the mo’ so haven’t taken it apart in case I break it in the process!

I’ve got the experts and got in touch with Hotlines directly after CRC never responded to my questions re: the front bearings going after two months. I asked about the rear at the same time and they came back really quickly and said that they’ll replace all bearings in the rears and post them back for £40 if the wheel went via CRC. Not sure if the hubs are the same but it might be worth a punt.

They also said that there’s a special tool for removing the freehub which is needed to replace the bearings so interested to know how it can be taken off.

If you want to get some better sealed bearings the Bearing Shop in Exeter can get all sorts and you can buy online (never used the website though as I’m in Exeter).

I’ve just tried muc off’s brake cleaner and loads gunk came off. £6 for a big can so might be worth a punt. If the pads need cleaning then try sanding them down a touch?

    Try Listerine. Kills most stuff.

I had a similar problem – turned out to be the pads (2012 XT) moving on the pin. Had to get someone else to hold the brakes on whilst rocking it backwards and forwards whilst holding various bits to realise but it’s pretty clear that’s where the movement is. Have you tried the back? That’s one way of checking if the pads move.

I used the clippers we use for our guinea pigs claws. Nice and neat and cheap from pets at home.

This is just a 26 v 29 debate using different references isn’t it? Round and round with no progress.

Been meaning to post this for a few days…

I contacted Hotlines and had a response within a couple of hours. Really helpful, confirmed bearing numbers and that the rears can be replaced without replacing the freehub. Was told that they need to go back to have the freehub removed so will be interested to know how PG got his off – will have to go and try it for myself…Hotlines can replace / service the rear and send it back for £40.

If anyone’s after bearings (of any type), speak to http://www.thebearingshop.co.uk/ and they’ll sort you out – they can get composite bearings for great prices if you order them in.

27 miles and 3000ft of climbing (according to Endomondo so could have been 12) around Haldon – beautiful but pretty chilly in spots.

No deer or buzzards today but did chat to a chap with San Andreas and the new cafe manager seem very nice. All in all, a good day, especially as it also meant I avoided the <shudder> mother in the law </shudder>.

theblackmount – that’s why I said ‘apart from’, as in ‘not impressed by that bit’, kinda obvious I thought but hey ho.

I’ve emailed CRC and Hotlines asking them about replacement parts for the rear but not had a response as yet. When/if I get one I’ll post it on here just in case.

I’ve had my experts for two months and have been impressed apart from having to replace the front bearings already.

Glad you had a great day. I have too. But I’m not thanking someone from an ancient middle eastern book. I’m thanking my family (infidels every one).

Devon’s one big playground but it really depends on how you earn your cash and where you are in your career. Private sector salaries are generally crap and housing is expensive – relatively more so than London when compared to salaries.

What do you want to do for work? I did the London thing for 10 years and moved down almost 3 years ago. Wouldn’t move back as I actually get to see my wife and daughter. Took a massive paycut as realised there’s more to life than being a corporate drone. That said, getting pissed most nights in Soho was great when I was 25…

Road riding sounds really fun…no wonder I’ve never seen a smiling roadie, they’re all freezing (or are in fact the cycling dead).

The problem is you’re arguing with a woman therefore it’s impossible for you to win no matter how right you are.

I bought my Soul because there was something about it that reminded me of my early 90s Bonty RaceLite – fast, comfy, strong, light (enough) and durable. And I’ve got to say, it’s fooking ace.

If you want a classic steel frame in a modern guise you’ll love the Soul. You can even fit forks that work in the cold :)

I’ve been told by three different publishers (not Future) in the last month that my clients won’t get editorial unless they advertise. There’s always been a ‘consideration’ but it’s become so blatant now. Unfortunately, most consumers don’t see it and trust articles that are little more than poorly recycled press releases.

Ahhhh, Access. I (sort of) remember Steve Mason (I think) playing it at Club UK on NYE 1994. Amazing times. That and Dave Clarke playing Red 2 at Atomic Jam, Hardfloor doing Acperience live at Tribal Gathering…

Thank you all for making feel 19 again. Time to load up the tunes for my next ride…

Man-sized chainrings – I went to FoD with a 51t Pace ring. Took a while to get wound up but when it did…thankfully I had a pro-stop on the front to slow me down. On a clockwork. With white Porcs. Proper 90’s biking. 8)

Think my knees would pop now.

Thanks for the comments folks, good to hear some first hand experiences.

Ernie – people in my family have had a catholic education and it did them a lot of harm. It was an extreme example and I know C of E isn’t exactly hardcore but I have no respect for religion when kids are concerned. And I’m not confusing anything in US with the UK, it’s stuff like ‘our Christian beliefs inform every aspect of the school’ or words to that effect on their websites that concern us as far as lessons are concerned.

Keves – why so angry dude?

Aracer – you’re right, I’m sure practicalities will important than worrying about religion lite!

Trampus – I’m more opened than most – some of my friends are roadies :)

Blimey. Do. I get a prize for my longest post ever? Back to mickey mouse club house….

I guess my main concern is that everything will be biased towards a christian point of view and won’t be balanced (especially science). Will ask a few questions and see what they say.

Anyway, I was an objectionable and argumentative little sod at school so I’m sure she’ll stand her ground.

I’ve got a set of the new XTs and my first thought after fitting them was ‘**** me, these will stop a truck’. No bedding in, no set up, just fit and ride. I’m 100kg in my kit and they stop super quick with plenty of modulation. If you can’t modulate them then you’re doing something wrong (hint – look well ahead and don’t just grab a handful). Awesome brakes.
