Never had an issue with gearbest deliveries, just a shame that the cable pulled out the back of my bt21 after two rides. Now in the bin, can’t be arses to have a fight with them.

Had two hilos and gave up. Got a GD and it’s fine. Needs a little gaffa tape to stop the collar moving but that’s fine by me.

Merino wool socks and shimano mw81 boots do it for me.

I used to get tingly hands then swapped to Odi Ruffians (thinner works for me despite having big hands) and On One El Guapo 760mm bars for less sweep. No tingly hands now.

Got through 2 hi-los and gave up. Had a gravity dropper for 4ish monthe and it’s great. Cable a touch short and the springs quite “you don’t want more kids do you” but it does the job and seems well built.

The lockring felt tight but there was a tiny bit of play left so the middle section moved and made a hell of a racket on descents. Chain pressure kept it tight so was only when freewheeling.

I had an issue with my 10spd xt on a hope hub. Turned out there was a really tiny spur that stopped it tightening fully. Took the edge off and it was fine.

Not sure if this helps but I took the plunge and got a GD Turbo LP (the newest one) about 3 months ago and it’s pretty good. Only complaints are that the return is pretty punchy (do you want kids?) and the collar can really effect its ability to stay locked down or up so I’ve fixed it in place with some gaffa tape under the boot which solved that one.

Cheers Muggo. I’ve got an XT40 as well but not used it as yet – would like to put it in my lid but it’s a bit tall / chunky for that. Will prob get a BT21 for the helmet and run the XT on my bars.

Has anyone done a direct comparison of a SS X2, a Yingding and a BT21?

Exeter’s ace for a small city – great riding all around, loads of brilliant food and drink suppliers, beaches etc. Best of all, minimal chippy northerners or cocky southerners.

Islabikes are brilliant – mini jr’s Beinn 20 large is 1kg lighter than the equivalent frog. It’s well built, comes with decent tyres (Kenda small block 8s) and brakes that really work. She loves it and wants to ride it all the time which makes it well worth the money. Resale prices are great as well.

I thought my bars were clicking. Turned out to be my seatpost clamp.

@sss – south Wales, the east bit ideally, is about as accurate as I can be, location not set yet, the bike is though.

Thanks guys, I’m driving from near Exeter and Brechfa is a bit further than I wanted to go but will take a look.

Any other ideas? Natural would be good but don’t want to be stopping every 60 seconds to check the map.

I’ve got a set of anchos and love them. Yes I clip the odd tree but the extra leverage is great when going flat out or slowly picking my way down a techie bit.

I’ve had 2 2014 HiLos, both went back and I gave up. Neither returned to full height as not enough pressure in them. Had them checked / serviced as after putting more in they sank a little even after following the instructions and ‘official’ fixes. Not a great experience. Will get a gravity dropper if I can find one with the spec I want at a sensible price.

Thanks all – has anyone used a HiLo and a Gravity Dropper and if so how do they compare? 6 of one, half dozen of the other?

I’d kill the western bit out towards the Warren house if you want to name it shorter. Here’s an alternative if you want it http://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MTYyNzc= – although the same applies – the western loop will probably be hard going now.

By the Soul, you’ll love it – and the size is right.

    (I’m 6′ 1″ and ride a large with 760mm bars, 70mm stem and 20mm offset seatpost)

Souls are pretty tough. I’m ~100kg in my kit and drag mine around Dartmoor without problems. They’re bloody ace and mine’s far more capable than I am (but that’s not saying much). But if you want ram raid banks and win, get a BFe.

+1 for meths. I don’t set mine on fire as it it evaporates and I rub most of it off with a cotton cloth (aka old socks) to remove the grime. Works a treat on pads and discs.

I’ll probably be up in the cleave on Sunday morning if you want someone to show you around – email is in profile – or you can grab the route from here. It’s not the STW one but takes in the best bits of the cleave plus the Hobbit Run, Hound Tor etc .

Or, if you’re after a post work ride at Haldon a bunch of us go from the Ley Arms in Ken on a Wednesday at 6.30. All good fun!

I’ve got a mk2 and run 11/42 x 36. It’s an xt cassette + one up with a rf nw on the front. Shifting isn’t perfect but it’s better than a dropped chain and sore knees.

Edit: cranks are slx triple with short ring bolts.

We almost booked through Eurocamp (in Frejus) then found the camp directly and saved best part of £400. We were going to drive but decided to fly and hire a car – it’s only 1.05 from Bristol to Nice.

Sorry for the hijack but could you use the cells from a Dyson handheld to make a bike pack? I’ve no idea what to do so if someone fancies a challenge…

I started getting some odd looks in Tesco’s walking around in my crocs, pads, 3/4 length shorts and covered in mud. Then a woman wearing a wetsuit walked in. Exeter really is the epicentre of fashion.
