Got XT m8000 on one bike and they’ve been excellent. On the jeffsy the guide ultimate were just not for me so replaced with mt5s which were good value and incredible stopping power.

I ride a soul 2018 in medium at the moment. Reason I’m looking at flares is the soul geometry feels great and my brothers Solaris is the same. I’ve got a jeffsy I just can’t get on with at all (for sale on pink bike atm) and a previous thread I had on here seemed to suggest the geo between soul and YT could be the reason.
I think I’ll give them a bell but medium seems to be right for me.
I like Healy Nab but always seem to end up lost on the way back up and going the wrong way towards traffic to get to the top. Luckily it’s a quiet spot
I’ve got vittoria gato 2 on my would front and back set up for xc riding. They’re a mud specific xc tyre so suit where I ride it. It coped with a wet rivvy well this morning. Not sure if there’s any deals on the 29er versions but they’re a tenner a pop in 27.5 at the moment.
Welcome to the club! I ride a soul and it’s by far and away the best bike I’ve ever had. It’s currently set up in a very xc way but I’ve had it with big tyres on doing black runs and peaks last year. Amazing bikes.
My Mrs (nurse) has been poorly so I’ve been told to self isolate for two weeks.
Is there anything wrong with me going out for runs and rides?
I’m alone in the middle of nowhere and it’s good for my immune system.
I’ve recently put mud xc tyres on the soul but before that had minions on and got butcher/purg on the yt so almost same tyres grip wise.
I think geometry set up looks the way to go. Barring that I think I’m struggling.
I feel the same as you twonks, but I’ve got to a point now that if I was going somewhere with black runs or peaks rides I’d be heading towards the cotic I’m that confident on that over the YT.
Feels a lot less agile and draggy, actually feels slow even though Strava times are actually better on black runs and downhill sections on it oddly. Just doesn’t feel fun or fast.
The soul is the longshot and same year as the jeffsy. Until recently they were the same weight at around 28lbs but I’ve changed the soul into more of an xc bike as I thought they were a little similar.
I’d be gutted to have to get rid of it as it’s such a well specced bike. Maybe I’ll try some different set ups as suggested
I didn’t know about that short cut black flag, so that’s the short fire road climb immediately before Julia’s trail? Just turn right instead of left? I quite like a lap of the blue for fast flowy fun as a second lap.
