No need to be ashamed Mr P, me too.

The Quo, Manchester Apollo, 1978. I was nine.
It was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me up till then!

They were mine to but in about 1969/70 at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon

IIRC the Queen has to use scheduled flights, if that’s good enough for her then it’s more than good enough for him.

IMO he should be made to fly Ryanair or Easyjet!

I had a similar problem and it turned out that although the track details showed on my iTunes listings on my pc the content was corrupt.

When it was transferred to my Nano the track showed in the listing but there was nothing to play.

You probably need to check the source material, even though it’s 18000 miles away.

I’d bet the vast majority of sat nav “mistakes” are just user error.

Stanavs don’t make mistakes, they are an aid. It’s the stupid people who rely on them that do that.

The f**kwit in the original post; typical BMW driver, shellsuit and all.

    Yes.

I’ve had one for about a month and I’m getting more out of it than I ever did from any other phone (mind you I have plenty of time on my hands at present).

Probably not got the apps at the moment that iPhones have but I have enough toys to play with at present. I’ve got rid of my iPod and got all my music on the phone and I have set it up to access my home WiFi to save having to use WAP for downloads. Next toy to investigate is iPlayer.

Got mine free when I renewed and reduced my contract with Vodafone.

My eldest daughter got on the other day from Orange after threatening to leave. She got some ridiculous talk and text deal and the new phone on a 12 month contract for about £14 a month.

I suppose if they are using shop assistants and traffic wardens to keep us safe from terrorists they can take down all the damned cctv cameras and get rid of the police.

There are plenty of other places in the area of the Eden project to make it worthwhile.

We went about 4 years ago and it was fantastic. Apparently it has got bigger since then so well worth the time and money.

If you’re not set just on the RAF but would consider the Army too then the Royal Engineers might be the place to go.

With your background their construction responsibilities might be of interest.

You could also end up anywhere in the world.

Simplest thing to do is put it down as a career break which is an aceptable thing these days.

Most web based recruitment sites will always ask for dates and for gaps to be explained. Depending on which fields you work in having no dates or leaving gaps in employment can lead to questions or your CV being ignored.

Recruiters/employers also loook at how long you lasted in previous jobs.

I thought VF were about to off-load about 5,000 staff in the UK and they were the biggest employer in Newbury.

    I’ve got email feeds from;
    Jobserve
    Jobsite
    Monster
    Reed
    Jobs Go Public
    NHS jobs
    Fish4jobs

It’s amazing how many jobs appear on all 4 main sites from different recruiters all claiming to have exclusive rights.

Whatever you do good luck with the interview.

Come back and gloat when you’ve got the job so that we unemployed ones can feel even more worthless! 😉

    Do it alpin.

It’ll give you a bit of money, don’t what they pay in Germany, which you’ll be entitled to like you are over here.

I signed on a week or so after getting made redundant but I’ll probably be signing-off next week as I’ve managed to get some freelance training work.

    Best of luck mate.

Virtual irradication of the genetic defect

when did this happen ? Isn’t DNA testing too new for the results of this to be evident yet ?

IIRC they quoted the results from a major Jewish hospital in NY that had closed the ward they used for treating the kids with the defect because there are so few cases now.

The other side of this though was the point that BD made about the ‘in-breeding’ of the Jewish community. I’m no geneticist but would the selective breeding increase the chance of the defect becoming more prevalent than if they bred with the wider community.

Has he tried the Royal Air Force Association or the RAF Museum at Hendon?

They would have records of squadrons and their histories.

A tragic loss in such apparently innocuous circumstances.

My late mother-in-law died in a similar way, not on a ski-slope but she tripped over a wheelchair at a stroke association do and banged the back of her head. She got up and appeared to be OK but died later the same night from a massive brain haemorrage (spelling?). It seemed such a silly way to go and the wife never had a chance to say goodbye.

I’m off home to look after my poorly wife.

So your wife’s poorly and all you can think of is lavishing money on a plaything?!

How do you get away with it??

We had ours done late last year. Replaced an old floor stander in the kitchen with a new Worcester/Bosch Greenstar Ri in the upstairs airing cupboard. Our’s is a three bed semi with a single storey extension with another bedroom. Over the winter period the house was the warmest it’s been in the 8 years we’ve been here without the boiler being at max output and the thermostat on 20C.

Managed to salvage a few bits from the old system, timer, circulating pump, thermostat but needed a changeover valve.

With rerouting of pipework, flushing the system and the fitment of a muck-filter system came to just under £4K. Work included the electrical work as well.

Boiler was installed as hot water and heating and we kept the hot water tank as I’ve heard too many stories about combi systems breaking down and with three women in the house the thought of no hot water for their showers/hair washing etc was not a pleasant thought.

I got some very good advice from someone on the old forum who is a heating engineer but I can’t remeber his name.

Yes, provided the alternator is outputting then the car will run on that and start to charge the battery.

I thought the same yesterday until I hit a pot hole and parted company with my bike, but not before catching my inner thigh on the water bottle or stem.

I now have a slowly developing blue/purple contusion which stings a lot. Anyone got any suggestions for something to put on it to bring out the bruise more quickly

What’s your excess at the moment?

If it’s £50 a bike then claim it, your premium will go up anyway irrespective of any claims you may make.

When it’s up for renewal go to someone else who is cheaper and I agree with BD about increasing your excess if you’re not going to claim.

Watching breakfast tv on BBC and I like the look of Susanna Stevens.

Up too early, was and still is Reid and I think she’s married already, sorry. I’ll go back to bed.

I’ve never had much time for Oasis but Wonderwall is better than the stuff they’ve been hawking recently which definitely sounds like music by numbers.

I had the same thought when I first heard the new U2 release. It seemed to have a bit of everything and amounted to nothing special.

To paraphrase a previous poster; ‘A polished turd is still a turd!’

I was watching the programme on BBC2 yesterday about the Chelsea Pensioners.

Watching the two old Fusiliers at the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Fusiliers’ memorial brought a tear to my eye.

Luckily I was on my own so no-one noticed.

If there isn’t a separate dip beam element in the bulb then it could be a poor connect with the socket. Have you tried tapping around the light assembly with the lights on?

Time to dismantle the front of the car so you can replace a ‘user servicable’ item.

So they won’t be giving them aptitude tests then ?

    ……. weird

Probably will, but the government’s attitude appears to be that there is source of potential teachers because they must be desperate to get jobs rather than investing the money where it will do the best in the long run.

Agree with aP about them all running back to the city when the good times roll again, which they will, and then we’ll be short of teachers again because we did it the wrong way round.

    woldn’t knock the engineering industry,

I wasn’t having a pop at engineers, sorry if it appeared so, but I have severe reservations about the governments second knee-jerk announcement in 24 hours after the fiasco on Monday with their new plans for dealing with violence towards women.

I was thinking the same thing as matt_outandabout.

Most of these people have been nowhere near kids since they were at school and working in a merchant bank does not give you the skills you need to teach.

I have two daughters and I’m a qualified trainer, but I wouldn’t imagine that I could teach which is a different skill altogrether.

My youngest daughter is in her NQT year as a primary school teacher having qualified in the summer. As part of her teacher training she spent a total of 4 months in the classroom doing teaching practice. Quite how the government thinks they can turn ex-bankers/engineers/builders etc into qualified teachers in 6 months I don’t know.

St Paddy’s day was one of Mayor Ken’s favourite minority group charities so I’m surprised that Boris has reduced it’s funding. Perhaps he’ll spend the savings on a proper celebration of St George’s day

    Sandwich;

Technically the sponsor is not adopting as the child has not been put up for adoption via an adoption agency.

The increase in paid maternity leave was about ,quality time, with the child before being forced back to work.
