If they had a BT line and you know what town they live in you might be able to find it on BT.com under the Residential Search option.

On some freeview boxes you can determine which transmitter you are receiving from by looking at the the channel properties in the setup menu.

That might tell you whether they’re from the same transmitter or not.

If they’re from the same transmitter then it’s probably down to individual channel transmission level.

I have two periods of interest at the moment, although I’ve loved ‘history’ ever since I dropped it at school for O level and failed Geography instead.

I’ve always had an interest in the Napoleonic era and also the history of Japan but especially the rise and fall of the culture of the samurai.

I’m more interested in the technology of the periods and how it shaped the wars.

You should get an error message coming back if the o/g mail has failed.

Agreed if they try to deliver it and can’t then you get a delivery failure message. I think that the Tiscali servers are loosing the emails or not forwarding.

I have a good deal with Tiscali icluding phone and bb and apart from the current concerns I’ve had no major problems over the last 4 years I’ve been with them. I’ve also just sent out 200+ flyers touting for business with my email address on so I’ve no desire to cahnge just know.

Also these fly by nighters who clamp wouldn’t have access to dva databases etc to find out where a person lives, no?

Probably yes. It seems the DVLA will give your details to anyone with enough money.

I agree with the sentiment about cutting off a clamp but it’s probably illegal as you are damaging someone else’s property.

I think the rules in Scotland are differenet about who can/can’t clamp cars and what they can charge. Something perhaps our government should start doing…… oh I forgot they get tax revenue from these low-lifes.

I’ve tried using Tiscali sending myself emails from two accounts, A emailing B and B emailing A and they both seem to work but I have this nagging feeling.

I don’t appear to be loosing incoming emails just outgoing.

I’ll set up a hotmail account and try what you suggest surfer.

Hopefully speed humps will be a minor part of the solution. Road narrowing, chicanes and single lane contra-flow would be preferable solutions.

What about the systems the Dutch(?) have introduced where they remove all markings and indicators to blur the boundaries between road and pedestrianised areas. Do they actually work?

Bit chilly in Guildford last night, completely clear skies.

Nice and sunny with a bit of early mist when I was taking Mrsjova to work, might just cycle into town to sign-on this morning.

    From GG,

And whilst we’re on the subject of ‘what’s interesting’, I found the fact that someone actually posted a thread on here to complain that protesters weren’t being beaten up by the police, utterly fascinating

Quote : “I just get the feeling that if this was an English/British protest then the police would be in full riot gear and beating the sh1t out of anyone”

So presumably he’d be feeling a whole lot better, if he could see the police wading in and beating the crap out of the protesters.

    Truly fascinating …

GG, Is that what I said or is that what you hoped I said so you could derive a specious argument from it?!

Fine TJ, that’s your prerogative in a free democratic society.

Make the most of it while we still have one.

Perhaps GG, but I doubt it.

The government they are protesting about is actively supported by our shower.

TJ – these protests have been going on since before G20 and causing unplanned disruption around Westminster. I know you’re not affected being in the comfort of Scotland but it matters down here.

They don’t have a permit to protest in parliament square as there is supposed to be an exclusion zone around the area.

So, how have they managed to get special dispensation?

I’m not suggesting that the police should use G20 tactics but the Met police are so pc and politicised they can’t make proportionate decisions any longer.

Oh, and you’re wrong about the CSA protests/marches.

Druidh, did you get my email response. I’ve got some problems with tiscali at the moment and I’m sure some are going missing.

Cheers RaglanSurf, I think I’m OK at the moment but I’ll keep you in mind.

Sorry RudeBoy misunderstood your post and thanks for the email. I appreciate your position

I’ve got about 3,000 negatives which I just want an electronic scan of so in terms of time I’d rather waste my own rather than someone elses.

Back to plan A with apologies to druidh and vinnyeh.

Vinnyeh where are you in the UK and would you be prepared to loan/ship your scanner to me? email as above.

    Cheers

RudeBoy, I’m Guildford so you’re probably the nearest to me and I’d be very grateful for the loan.

I wondered where Eddie had got to yesterday and only realised that it was Gascoigne in his place.

Eddie may rub people the wrong way but Coulthard is so anodyne that Eddie provides a bit of bite and controversy.

Nice procession in the race so far!

They should have left him in Brazil to rot.

The Brazilians had no interest in returning him to the UK even knowing that he was a convicted criminal.

People like Biggs don’t deserve the benefits of our welfare system when he paid nothing into it for 30 years and ‘thumbed his nose’ at the UK from the safety of Brazil for so long.

I missed it in the listings but I’ve downloaded it from iPlayer to view later.

I’ll get back to you but the opinion has always been that those in the Oxford writing group at the same time, Lewis and Tolkein included, used the bible as the basis for their fantasy stories.

Invariably pleasant and chatty and put up with inane questions.

As the extension is part of a larger house for mortgage/council tax purposes would it be viewed as a room-in-a-house or as a seperate property?

As a starter you’ll need to make sure your chimney flue doesn’t leak. Having carbon monoxide leaking into your bedroom is not recommended. You will probably need to get it swept and checked for blockages too.

    Agree with zaskar.

Most after shaves are alcohol based and become more volatile the warmer they get. As long as the bottle is properly sealed then it shouldn’t be a problem but if the contents have warmed up above room temperature and you remove the top then it will evaporate quicker than if it was stored at a lower temp.

If you do stick it in the fridge make sure the seal is airtight otherwise your food, assuming there’s more than beer in your fridge, will take on a whole new taste and smell.

    Nothing.

You owed the tax and they have taken it back by increasing your coding.

They have apologised but they can claim unpaid taxes for up to 7 years IIRC.

Whether you like it or not, or even understand your tax staements, it is still your responsibility to check to ensure you have paid the right tax.

The mean-minded attitude of the current, and previous, governments means that local councils who purchase these services are forced to get the best value (generally cheapest) quote for the work.

The companies they appoint to the task employ underpaid carers who struggle to deliver a reasonable service against unacheivable targets. (You don’t do the job for the money!)

The government, national and local, should fund homecare properly.

The situation is going to get worse with the replacement of CSCI with the CQC which has a wider remit with less money and resources.

For what it’s worth I agree with most of the above.

Is there anyway you can use the job offer to speed up the decision processses for the Swiss jobs.

Otherwise I’d agree that you need a get out clause for the offered job or just take the job and if one of the Swiss ones comes through give them notice equal to your pay frequency, week or month, and let them whistle for it.

You know what’s most importnat to you and the family so go with your heart.

    Best of luck.
