Surely you can only claim ‘Maternity Pay’ if you have a baby, given also thataternity pay continues for the original period if the child dies at birth or within the first 9 months.

If that is so then when the surrogate mother gives the baby to the mother who has ‘sponsored’ it then surely her right to maternity pay ends.

Also, as the sponsoring mother is not adopting the child she cannot claim maternity pay!

    Yes or No??

One is West Sussex County Council’s jobs website another was a competition through the Daily Torygraph.

Shame about the DT one as it was for a 10 day holiday in California.

    Cheers Stoner.

Sorry, probably didn’t explain myself terribly well.

When the webpage is displaying the toolbar for IE spans the full screen, the displayed page is in the lefthand half of the screen and the right side is blank.

    Does that make more sense?

Just for a bit of variety AVG from grisoft.com.

Don’t forget to remove all other anti-virus software completely from you pc before running whatever you choose otherwise it will see their virus databases as viruses and close your machine down!

    Stoner,

Webpage frames as normally if application windows overlap you get scroll bars or you can drag and drop them.

I’m running IE7 and it’s fully up to date.

Before anyone tells me I should be using Garglefart or whatever it is; I’ve use IE in all it’s versions for the past 10+ years without the problems that others think they have and this problem occurs on no more than 1% of websistes but is a pain when you can’t access info you want to see.

I’ve also run an experiment and printed a page that displays with problems and the printout is the same.

I suppose the issue with the Powerpoint and the flipchart is to show how versatile you can be.

Hopefully I’ll only have to do the one interview. I don’t fancy having to drive to Bournemouth twice from Guildford, job’s a bit closer though.

I had an interview last week but didn’t get the job but the experience was useful.

Hope things get better for you soon stumpy.

    Good news mboy.

    Friday 13th eh?

I’ve got a first interview for a job on the same day at 4.00pm in Bournemouth.

Good luck for yours. Assessment days are the pits but the prospects sound good.

Here’s one I was sent yesterday and caused me to spill my tea!! If you’ve seen it before I’m sorry but if not it’s worth a read.

    Life in the Australian Army…

Text of a letter from a kid from Eromanga to Mum and Dad. (Eromanga is a small town, west of Quilpie in the far south west of Queensland )

    Dear Mum & Dad,

I am well. Hope youse are too. Tell me big brothers Doug and Phil that the Army is better than workin’ on the farm – tell them to get in bloody quick smart before the jobs are all gone! I wuz a bit slow in settling down at first, because ya don’t hafta get outta bed until 6am.. But I like sleeping in now, cuz all ya gotta do before brekky is make ya bed and shine ya boots and clean ya uniform. No bloody cows to milk, no calves to feed, no feed to stack – nothin’!! Ya haz gotta shower though, but its not so bad, coz there’s lotsa hot water and even a light to see what ya doing!

At brekky ya get cereal, fruit and eggs but there’s no kangaroo steaks or possum stew like wot Mum makes. You don’t get fed again until noon and by that time all the city boys are buggered because we’ve been on a ‘route march’ – geez its only just like walking to the windmill in the back paddock!!

This one will kill me brothers Doug and Phil with laughter. I keep getting medals for shootin’ – dunno why. The bullseye is as big as a bloody possum’s bum and it don’t move and it’s not firing back at ya like the Johnsons did when our big scrubber bull got into their prize cows before the Ekka last year! All ya gotta do is make yourself comfortable and hit the target – it’s a piece of piss!! You don’t even load your own cartridges, they comes in little boxes, and ya don’t have to steady yourself against the rollbar of the roo shooting truck when you reload!

Sometimes ya gotta wrestle with the city boys and I gotta be real careful coz they break easy – it’s not like fighting with Doug and Phil and Jack and Boori and Steve and Muzza all at once like we do at home after the muster.
Turns out I’m not a bad boxer either and it looks like I’m the best the platoon’s got, and I’ve only been beaten by this one bloke from the Engineers – he’s 6 foot 5 and 15 stone and three pick handles across the shoulders and as ya know I’m only 5 foot 7 and eight stone wringin’ wet, but I fought him till the other blokes carried me off to the boozer.

I can’t complain about the Army – tell the boys to get in quick before word gets around how bloody good it is.

    Your loving daughter,

    Sheila 😀

The banks have been given leave to appeal to the House of Lords so we’re in for another 9-12 months of sitting and waiting.

I had a claim for about £1000 put on ice when the OFT case was brought so I’m keen to see a resolution too.

I’ve had one for about 3 weeks now. Got it as a free upgrade on Vodafone.

I think it’s great and haven’t had any problems. Don’t know anything about Symbian S60 but as a touch screen it seems very effective. I haven’t played with an iPhone so I don’t know how it compares.

I’ve managed to download all my iTunes onto it including the audio only podcasts. Haven’t managed to load any video to it yet but I spend most of my spare time looking for jobs at the moment.

Mine came with a 8Gb SD card, radio tuner, headphones and a mass of cables. Only thing I don’t like is you can only charge it on a mains plug-in charger, my old Motorola could charge via it’s USB cable from any PC or laptop.

I thought I was being a heretic by criticising their stunt at the BBC to my brother in law who thinks the sun shines from Bono’s ar$e.

I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Just doing a retro on Genesis (Peter Gabriel version). Have listened to all their albums up to Selling England By The Pound and The Battle Of Epping Forest is still a favourite.

Just showing my age I suppose. 😀

Hey crazylegs, I’m interested in your comment about freelance work.

I’m on the heap as well, had an interview on Tuesday, first in the 6 weeks since I got the push, but didn’t get the job. Had plenty of the ‘Your CV looks ideal but they’ve just pulled the position and aren’t recruiting’ types of call.

I’m thinking about freelance training but I’m not sure how it affects JSA.

Cheeky question! Are you declaring your freelance work if it’s paid or keeping stumm? If you don’t want to answer on the forum that’s OK.

    Hey spongebob,

Don’t know if its too late but I’m with Vodafone and I got a 5800 foc in the last month.

My contract was up for renewal and I phone Vodafone and asked what was on offer, knowing I wanted the 5800. They would only offer one if I paid £55 and upgraded to £35 per month on a 18 month contract.

I then went to their on-line store where I went through the Upgrade My Mobile option and got the phone, 3 months 1/2 price rental and some free texts and calls on my existing price plan and a new 18 month contract for free.

The phone arrived the following day and it’s great.

If it’s not too late give it a try. I don’t think there’s a link between their on-line site and their telesales.

    Best of luck.

    John

    In Guildford.

Was supposed to take Mrsjova to work at 5.30 this morning but I couldn’t get the car out of the garage so she abandoned that. Two daughters are both off work, one is a teacher and school is closed, other works in retail and can’t get to work because there are no buses or taxis and it’s too damend far to walk in 10 inhes of snow.

Took these about 7.30 this morning.

I’ve been doing this for the last 2 weeks and am getting the same problem.

Most of the ones I speak to say, ‘We found your CV on Monster and we’ve got an opening or a brain surgeon, are you interested?’. Why are they wasting my and their time?

    Start planning now.

My redundancy came out of the blue and I’m struggling to get interviews for new positions.

If you’ve got transferrable skills start beefing them up and put the word about with friends/family/work contacts that you might be interested in moving on.

It’s amazing how quickly 2 months can go.

    Whatever happens, good luck!

If you have any old P60’s or notice of coding changes from HMRC it should be on there.

If you were sad like me you’d know it off by heart. ;-))

It makes you realise how time is passing when people you watched on black & white telly paas on.

Oliver Postgate, Patrick Magoohan and now Tony Hart and also John Mortimer last week, ironically there were a number of tribute programmes to him over the weekend.

RIP Tony, your programmes were truly ground breaking.

I was 54 back in December and it was only another change of number as far as I’m concerned.

I’m by no means the fittest person of my age that I know but having seen some of my old school contemporaries just recently and some of my ex-Army mates I’m not doing too bad.

I must say that the full-sus that I now have makes life a bit more comfortable.
