It’s dry at the moment and quite warm

Perfect scenario would be some drizzle just as they went off on the formation lap with a few short and heavy showers throughout the race

I’ve not read many of the posts on this thread so apologies if I’m repeating anything

I suffer quite badly when stress and anxiety collide

I can somehow always convince myself that I’ll come out the other side but worry that the day will come when I don’t

OP – stay as strong as you can and when you can’t be strong, sit it out till you can again

EDIT: sorry that sounds stupid telling you to sit down
I just hang on till it goes away – like everyone else I guess

If you turn around the ‘owing £0’ statement and instead they told you they owed you £5000 – would you expect them to honour it if they later said it was an error and could prove it?

as far as what they say you still owe – I’d just do nothing and see how it goes

A bit like how us bikers’ need Eurosport for the MotoGP/WSB/BSB – wanna watch, need to pay.

Eurosport [not British Eurosport] is still available ‘Free to Air’ via Astra 19.2 but not sure how much longer it has

As for the F1 live & free
There may well be live coverage from RTL next year, so all you’d need is a very cheap set up and another source of commentary [not sure what R5 are doing]

    Interesting spin Jota
did you know that the Westminster government has also refused to release its legal advice on the same subject?

    I’ve absolutely no doubt

just wondered how you knew that the Scottish government had had legal advice to the affect that if Scotland had to reapply [as it were] so would the remainder of the UK

As I suspected, you didn’t you only thought you did
    bit like a Rumsfeld “know”

I thought there had been a press release – I pretty sure have seen an authoritative opinion

no – you’ve been told, it’s not in your interest to know

TJ – you didn’t mention how you knew the scottish government has different advice from earlier

SNP Leader Alex Salmond has today called for Scotland to join northern Europe’s arc of prosperity, with Ireland to the west, Iceland to the north and Norway to the east all small independent countries in the top six richest nations in the world. In comparison, the UK is 14th and devolved Scotland 18th with similar, oil rich Norway over £12,000 per person better off.

Speaking in Edinburgh today Mr Salmond committed an SNP government to deliver a range of pro-enterprise policies designed to support Scotland’s wealth creators and bring greater prosperity across the nation. Mr Salmond said that with an SNP government elected in May next year and a vote for independence within the first term of that government, Scotland would be on track to raise wealth per head by £4000 a year within 10 years, compared to continuing in the UK.[/b]

    No it didn’t.

I was taking it from this

Scots often note the Union of the Crowns in 1707 as the date Scotland’s independent status ended. But that is not the union that currently exists. The Treaty of Union was amended to absorb all Ireland, by the Act of Union in 1800. This new UK was amended again in 1925 when Ireland was partitioned in 1925. The potential complications of this new, post-1707 UK in relation to Scottish secession are unknown.[/b]

Formal union with Ireland came in 1800

surely the only valid Union dates from 1925 as it’ll of superseded anything previously?

and the scottish government has different advice

How do you know that TJ? or are you guessing?

apparently it’s contrary to the public interest to tell you what their advice was

kerplunk – if Scotland is independent the UK no longer exists in the same form, so if Scotland would have to renegotiate terms with the EU so would the rump UK

    dunno ??

my point wasnt that you had been lax in your research its simply that MPs get at least 10% more taxpayer contribution than any other public sector worker, not to mention their benefits scheme ….

And my point is I can’t find a list of figures from somewhere I can trust not to put a spin on it – hence the question and the attached jpg

Are those number correct? or spun – I accept that other numbers may well of been omitted from that table of given a confrontational column heading

    jota180

jota180 you missed out 1 group there

I didn’t miss out anything, I copied and pasted from a gov site and simply asked if the figures were correct

I still don’t know, are they?
I’ve got no angle here, I’m just interested to know the correct figures

Don’t know any non-scot who even considers it

True, I would hazard that most non-Scots didn’t even know [or care] that it was being considered

@jota180 that chart is misleading, it states taxpayers instead of the employer

I’m interested in the numbers rather than the column headings, hence ‘vested interest’ quote
I know where from and what the Taxpayer column refers too

There are so many figures bandied about it’s hard to find any produced by someone that doesn’t have a vested interest

    So………..
Is this the contribution offer that’s on the table?
If so, how does it compare with where they are now, what’s the difference we’re talking about here?

I found quite the opposite when I worked for the NHS, travel and overnights were scrutinised fiercely, in fact it was too much and quite a pain in the arse.

To be fair, it is quite rare for them to come to us

The turning up ‘mob handed’ statement still stands mind and I’ve not seen a PP presentation for a few years now :)

Can’t speak for the public sector in general but the NHS certainly knows how to throw a lot of resource at projects.
We sell and deploy [non clinical] equipment into all sorts of businesses including half a dozen NHS trusts.
A simple project update meeting will normally inc 2 from our side and 2 from the client’s side, unless it’s an NHS trust.
They tend to come in mob handed, 5,6 or 7 of them for a simple update, the assistants seem to have assistants. If the meeting is at our office, it’ll often be a night out for them too.
It’s also quite off-putting that they’ll often send a totally different team to subsequent meetings
The contrast is really quite startling between delivering into an NHS trust Vs a normal business.
They aren’t very keen on post project parties though :)

4 week before Christmas and they’re having a sale?

In the UK that should really be 5th July mind

This year I don’t think it *is* all that commercial – it seems really downplayed compared to previous years.

What’s happened in the past when times are hard is it just seems to start getting really busy later than the usual November frenzy you get when times are good

My next door neighbour was stuck in Gran Canaria with his family last year with the volcano dust
He phoned the school to let them know and the HM told him he wasn’t allowed to keep them off school and it would be recorded as unauthorised

his kids are now obviously doomed to a life of destitution

“well we find out what you would have paid for it in the UK and add a bit more so it’s not worth buying from the US”

That’s not the case unless you try and pull the wool and get caught, in which case they’ll price it as a UK buy

IIRC you’ll pay 4.5% duty + VAT on the price and shipping costs + a handling fee
