Thanks for the genuine pieces of advice there.

I am not purely seeing this as a financial transaction but giving an apprentice £105pw is more than my wife currently pays herself. We are a small business completing our 1st year this december. Our last apprentice went to work somewhere else after we had invested time, money and costs for additional training courses. The reason for her moving on was the distance from her home to place of work got to her after a few months.

My arguement against the Apprentice scheme is that the college seems to get everything.

    College get funding from government.

We get a trainee who currently does bugger all but is getting better by the week. We have to pay out, currently dont get any grants or support. We have to train on the job and send on additional courses. All this and she could walk out at anytime.

This is why I was considering the costs of a part time employee.

    Thanks,

I have worked with and used the satmap unit lots over the last few years and agree it is a fantastic piece of kit. Recently I have started working with a Magellan explorist 310 running 1:50 os maps on it. In my opinion it is a mini satmap with more user friendly interface and menus. RRP is about £180 plus £50 for full GB 1:50 OS.

Trailblazer outdoors in Pickering, North Yorks should have stock as soon as its available in the UK which is any day now.

    Hope this helps

Try a Magellan Explorist 710. It has NavMan on road sat nav is water proof, shock proof and can also be taken off road as can be loaded with OS mapping but also has pretty good summit series mapping for the whole of Europe. It’s not cheap but does a superb job all in 1 device. Also has a video camera and 3m still camera which geo tags all your media.

Altura and Grangers are distributed by the same company so can see the recomendation for grangers being solid. I don’t under stand why no tumble dry though. Dwr treated material is baked in manufacture? Heat should be ok. Especially a domestic tumble dryer. Anyhow think things must be sorted now?

    Is react altura?

I probably should have said that tumble drying the grangers activates the fluro carbons and seals it onto the garment. This then makes it last 10 times longer than nikwax and 10 times longer than air cure grangers. All grangers product which are air cure will work 10x better if heated.

hope you have a reproofed jacket by now.

Go buy some grangers 2 in 1. Rinse through the washer with no detergent. Pop in the 2 in 1 and wash with that. Then tumble dry and should be good as new. The tumble dryer activates the fluro chemical and makes te beading effect as good as new.

Tumble drying nikwax does bugger all apart from re activate the original dwr coating. tumble drying the grangers restores the original performance. That’s why oxfam wash all their outdoor gear in grangers. Good as new!
