The answer to this is quite simple. Grow a beard. I have a beard and no drivers have ever started trouble me. Here is why.

    Men with beards.

    Men without beards.

    I rest my case

I’ve adjusted calipers by 5mm simply by using a lot of washers between the mount and the caliper and they worked fine.

Interesting comment in that Mail article

What is the life of James Bulger worth (what little there was; he was tortured and murdered at the age of two)? Robert Thompson and Jon Venables not only didn’t get life — they got new lives at a cost of millions to the taxpayer.

Venables is only back in prison because he was convicted for downloading child porn.
Did the scales of justice really balance in these cases?

Implying we should be executing not just minors but kids of 10?

JonR – ‘never argue with an idiot’ is the clause I’m bringing into play here

CFH – if a frame was unfit for purpose I would contact the manufacturer..
If ALL their frames were always unfit for purpose I would consider damning them..

was the holiday fit for purpose..?

Because that is the same response that Alan gave to Mr MC, a direct implication that he was slating his firm to get one up for a friend

I’m just after options to be honest, drawing up a shortlist of frames to look out for. The Titus and the Blur both look to be very nice. Nicolai CCs are like rocking horse dung in my experience.

With the exception of one little slighty steep hillock near the end where water has eroded a bit of a gully to give a judder at the bottom of it its not much more difficult than a canal towpath. The climb at the start might be a bit of a pain for a nipper.

PITA to bleed, set up and use!

????? Avid Elixirs are by far the easiest brakes to set up and bleed that I have ever had. What is so difficult about them?

OP, check the allignment of your callipers first and foremost, the cup and cone spacers you get with Avids can mean that the calliper might not be on 100% straight but the bonus of these is you can change the allignment by fractions of a degree just by untightening your bolts adjustign and retigtening. Also as has been mentioned try a bleed and fully push back your pistons mid bleed as you may have too much fluid in the brakes.

No – did I say that? I did not. I said there are three types of outcome –
    1) the helmet reduces injury
    2) the helmet makes no difference to injury
    3) the helmet makes injury worse

Yes you did. You said that in 30% of cases a lid makes things worse but the figure of 70% making things better isn’t correct as in some crashes the lid makes no difference. Looking at the maths if your position of not wearing one is better than wearing one the then those crashes where the helmet makes no difference must be over 40% in order to make wearing one more of a hazard than not.

Not nessasarily – in some instances no difference, in some an improvement in outcomes. Never seen any numbers for that and I doubt the 30% figure.

However there is at least one neurosurgeon cyclist who will not wear a helmet as he believes the risks from wearing one are too high.

You expect us to believe that in over 40% of accidents a helmet makes no difference in the severity of a head injury?

Some researchg shows in 30% of accidents helmets make head injury worse. ( but probably not in this case)

I’m not too sure what “researchg” is but would that not imply that therefore in 70% of accidents wearing a lid would lessen head injuries?

I was more talking about the intimation of physical harm rather than the actual perpetration of it but this bellend sounds like the type who wouldn’t back down from such a threat. Now they have a record of it grass him to the police every time he does anything untoward, it’ll probably take an immediate threat of a loss of liberty to quieten him down.

If you mean, like a bus service that extorts money from you on threat of prosecution even if you intended on walking instead of getting the bus, then yes.

Sell your TV, don’t pay the license fee?

West wing, the sopranos, the wire, deadwood, game of thrones etc etc etc the BBC dramas don’t even come close. The primetime slots just seem to be reserved for eastenders, FFS BBC1 may as well be renamed the eastenders chanel.
Reality is its lost its way, its trying to compete with the commercial stations with dumbed down crap, and “shock” comedy and is no longer providing real variety, its spread itself out over too many channels and radio stations and none of them have any focus, too much management and too much spent on celebrities masquerading as talent.
It needs to cut back to 2 television channels, 5 radio stations and concentrate on quality instead of quantity, start making choices about the content it airs instead of making space for every piece of crap.

Am I the only person who read this as “I want the BBC to concentrate on what I want to watch and screw everyone else”?

The way I look at it is like this, the BBC is like a bus service whilst a lot of selfish people want it to be like a taxi service. You pay your money on a bus service and you go where the bus is going to go, the greater the demand for buses the more frequent the service. You don’t throw your dummy out of the pram because every bus doesn’t stop outside your house because that would be inconvenient for everybody else. I’ve found in a number of discussions abiut this that the sort of person who moans about the BBC is telling you more about themself than about the state of British public broadcasting.

it’s printed on their mast head, isn’t it?

What tends to bother me is that when wholesale proces drop 30% they seem to only drop retail prices by 10%…

That’s to accrue money so when the prices rise the customers get cushioned.

Wholesale prices go up 30%, consumer prices go up 18%. Expect rage from the Daily Mail.
