The Big Ron comparison is not a silly and fatuous as it might sound. Like Suarez he too had plenty of people coming to his defence saying that he is not a racist and was very stupid in making the remark that he did. In Suarez case it is Uruguay teammates, Gus Poyet etc. and in the case of Atkinson it was a myriad of black players who had played for him over the years swearing he treated them exactly the same as anyone else in the dressing room.

The similarity is neither man was punished for being a white hood wearing, far right supporting, storm front posting bigoted racist, they were punished for saying something that is racist. Both men did it and whilst one has lost half a weeks wages and got a Christmas off the other lost almost his entire livelihood.

I don’t understand the problems people are having with bleeding. You fit the 2 syringes and pump the fluid up and down until all of the air has come out. I don’t think it could be any more simple. My M975s are a pain to bleed compared to Juicys and Elixirs.

Hi I work for British Gas and whilst I have no idea about the business side of the company I can only say go to Ofgem as soon as possible and once you have go back BG and tell them you have gone to Ofgem. The flap that our people on the phones seem to get in to when they are told that normally speeds up processes no end.

Now the seller is probably just a bikeshop moonlighting as a STW’er however the ‘history’ is all for sale stuff- nothing else yet someone was potentially going to wire over £1,500 of their money to someone they’ve never met?

So many so called classics are nothign but pants.

The Shining – Ex alkie mentalist goes mental and chases his family round a haunted house. Yawn.

The Godfather – Some Italians kill each other and a few other people whilst running a crime gang. Boring.

2001 a Space Odyssey – Monkeys, a killer space ship, some silly colours and a big black tombstone. Turgid.

Jaws – A big shark kills some people and then gets killed. Awful.

Firstly, you take the Daily Bile as an authority, known for accurate reporting? I’m surprised they didn’t manage to work immigration into that article.

Secondly, its a policy decision by Metpol to stop officers being tied up dealing with minor public order offences. The courts have long since adopted the stance that police have a tougher constitution than the general public so the standard for abusive behaviour is higher, but it is still illegal, you can still be arrested, and still be convicted in court. Try it and let us know.

Back to the OP, the number of officers involved suggests it was an awareness operation, driven either by a spate of accidents or public complaints (neighbourhood policing means we police the priorities and issues the community set, be it illegal parking or drug dealing). We have similar in Oxford for cycle lights just after the clocks change, something like 160 tickets given out in 2 hours a couple of weeks ago (ticket cancelled if a light receipt is produced within 2 weeks). This year it came just after a horrific cycle fatality (thread on here about it) so I would have expected less discretion to be used to get the message across.

Firstly not at all, I read the daily mail website from time to time to amuse myself at the blatent bias of some of their fouler journos such as Melanie Phillips and Liz Jones and also to gaffaw with laughter at the low brow neanderthals who post on their comments page. However this was a well publicised news story that was run across all the media but the Mail was the first to pop up on a simple Google search.

You say try it and let us know, okay then. I understand from previous posts that you yourself are a member of constabulary and officer of peace and so can I just tell you to go forth and multiply! Come on, arrest me.

    This.

The OP has broken no laws and the passenger and driver have both broken laws yet the smug “I know best” bellend brigade are out in force.

Its easy to sound like a hard man online but I’d probably meet the agression with more agression. probably not the wisest cause of action but when I’m in pain my temper shortens.

Toys, I’m afraid it was from an ebay seller who had bought the wrong size and the auction didn’t even get one bid so I emailed with a lower offer and he took it. That said I think Vortex Racing was selling a similar shock at a very reasonable rate on the classifieds. Yep, this is the one.

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-%e2%80%93-tyre-coil-shock-rotors-front-mech-700c-wheel-saddle-piccies-1

Matt, I’ve got the old Romic shock body as well so I’d be mounting them on that and having a quick blast about just to see how the heavier spring weight feels. Cheers for the advice, its been invaluable.

Cheers Matt, that is exactly what I needed to know. I was pretty sure that I could use a Cane Creek 500×2.25 shock based on coils I have tried in the past and as they are only 20 quid from TFT I’ll probably go for one of those. I also have a couple of heavier 2″ Romic coils been sat there for an age I might have a play with.

I’ve tried the TFT tuned calculator, I’ve got a good idea of the spring weight that I need its the length of the sping that I am not sure about.

I’m wondering if you fit a lighter but longer spring in to a shock does that mean you have inbuild preload and so the coil will act like that of a heavier weight setting.

Saying that riding with 4000 lumens might as well be riding in daylight is missing the point though isn’t it? The rider may well rather be riding in daylight but in its abscence a nice 4000 lm lamp might be the next best thing.

I’d say those who enjoy the edgy feeling of night riding can use an older or less bright light where as those who want to be able to see everything can rock a twin Cree U2 meganutterbasterd light and there is no right or wrong. People claming that a string of fairy lights is enough for 10 riders to descend Ben Nevis on a moonless night are just forcing their standards on everybody.

Looks lovely. Sadly now Nicolai have had your custom the parent company wont give a toss about you and the UK division is so impotent than any help they might wish to give you will be subject to the whim of their obergruppenführer.

I agree but putting your weight back unloads the front i.e. easier to wash out?

When I’m riding a mountain bike I sometimes shift my weight forwards or backwards depending on what I’m going over. Do you think this might be of use in that situation?

So if I bend my frame the manufacturer should replace it for free?

Under the sale of goods act after something is six months old it is up to you to show it was a manufacturing fault.

that is why I said “with a metallurgist’s report”

How a bent piece that does not manifest itself until the bike is a year old can be a manufacturing fault is a mystery to me

Having read your input on here for quite a while all I can say is I think probably a lot of things are a mystery to you but it doesn’t stop you trying to sound like an expert.

    JonR

As everyone is sticking their oar in I think I’ll have a go as well.

I’m totally with the OP. The ONLY way that a strut could bend like that is if there has been some sort of latent fault within it and whilst it managed to last about a year before the fault manifested itself when you buy a tip top frame such as a Nicolai CC with a 5 year warranty you expect the 5 year warranty to cover faults such as this.
I’m pretty sure the law covers latent defects in the Sales of Goods Act as well and a 2 grand bike frame that starts to fold in on itself after year certainly isn’t fit for purpose so had the OP been of a litigious nature he could have gone to court against Nicolai UK armed with a metallurgist’s report and had a reasonable case to get his money back on the frame.

The real telling thing in one of these threads is when a representative from the company being accused to less than perfect customer service comes along and defends the company and by doing so gives the air of lacking the authority or capacity to simply sort a situation out, you can almost smell the impotence. The “No, but you did this”, “I couldn’t do that cos you said that” and the final inevitable “well we’ve got plenty of other customers who are happy!” trying to imply that if you are in a minority then you must be wrong.

The cold hard fact is when you are spending over 2 THOUSAND POUNDS on a mountain bike frame then when it breaks it should get fixed, you shouldn’t have the company quibble, the repairer should be chased up and a line of communication with the customer should be kept open by the seller. In doing this you get many threads across the net praising your customer service and so people are happier to spend money with you knowing that the company are behind you. The villain of this piece sounds to me like Nicolai Germany for not giving Nicolai UK enough authority to deal with its own problems.

I’ve got a Pushed fox RP23 I’ll be looking to sell in the next couple of weeks. It’s losing a bit of oil on rides so it will need a service and I wouldn’t be wanting too much for it.

Hate it. From the pagan festival of the sun to the Christian festival marking the birth of Jesus and now the socially and economically necessary event where we all spend lots of money boosting the economy with the circle of payments boost that dumping massive lump of cash in to it requires. Fake festive cheer, god awful adverts on the TV, people bringing large dead evergreens in to their houses and small messages rolling along the bottom of the screen when the Great Escape is on giving people a phone number to call if their going to top themselves.

I can’t abide it, I don’t mind a couple of days off work don’t get me wrong but the artificial merriment that we are meant to enjoy sickens me to the very pit of my stomach. Essentially Christmas is a time of year for kids and as I am no longer one and have none of my own to parasitically enjoy it through, like some sort of anti Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy, I would very very happy if the whole thing were just called off and a large one off income tax payment was charged to readdress the economic ramifications.

Also Christmas pudding is foul, mince pies ming, crackers are pointless and if I want turkey and roast potatoes I’ll make them whenever I want thanks all the same. Cromwell had it right.

Hello chaps. yes that person in the photo is me.
I wear a neck brace because my friend broke his neck at Leckhampton Hill when he was 16 (4 years ago) he is currently in a wheel chair and always will be. for the rest of his life.
I have done a season in whistler (so im not a complete weapon like you haters) and obviously know the dangers that you can sustain from this sport. I havent chosen to live here. i live here because of UNI this is my local spot and the only place i can ride as im not aloud a car in my first year.
I dont feel comfortable riding without one as one of my BEST friends is in a wheel chair.
Maybe do some riding and stop criticising and grow up.
im at shotty a lot as its my local for now, so if you want to talk to me then and see the level i ride at then feel free.
    Regards,
The **** wearing the neck brace.

Well said mate, there are a number of people on here who really should know better and seem to think that its not enough to be on a bike and enjoying it but you must also look the part otherwise somehow you are fair game for ridicule.

On the down side I’d expect a venerable University student such as yourself to know the difference between aloud and allowed. A+ for well communicated indignation, B- for spelling.
