im in the market for a second hand tri bike, its something ive been pondering with for a while, im hopeing to get hold of a alu giant trinity for around 600 quid but I have no idea what difference the likes of a carbon planet x/ridley would be like to a alloy giant (which id like to think is classed as high standard alloy ? i’d like to think I compete rather than complete but at shorter distances to ironman/outlaw to justify the purchase im going to join the local tt club too is this a sensible option or would I be better with the lower end carbon?

Lincolnshire wolds are fairly bad ,the field crossings they become impassable, the mud seems to stick to everything until you finally stop an wonder why you ever tempted to ride across the sticky mess

think im about on the mtb this weekend depends how work treats me, couple of road rides about too, louth velo meet up at the market place at half9 or louth tri club also set off at 10 from the meridian I think, both can be found on facebook theres plenty of good mtbing to be had tho as shifter said it tends to get a bit lumpier towards caistor , theres also a yorkshire and lincolnshire cycling community about ….also on fb who tend to be more grimsby based

has anyone on here built up one of the chinese carbon frames? and are they all about weight saving or are they stiffer than a alloy equivalent ? im thinking for myself on a budget a cheap alloy tt frame would be a better place to start for triathlons I do have a cheap road bike ……just fancy a tt bike just because

hope it gets sorted, its a shame to hear about there lack of customer service the guy seems a bit bi polar to me ive had good dealings with him and bad on the plus side when you eventually get your wheel back you might end up with a good one this time

I live around 30 miles from ss ,im sure I sore the guy the other day on a unbranded frame with loads of ss tat bolted on. his ginger hair was hard to miss with the lack of helmet , the unit they work out of is all on one level, it has a small office attached to a small warehouse there can’t be many more than 5 to 10 people that work there id not be convinced the guy you spoke to on the phone knows nothing of the issue

have you considered a tow bar mounted rack ? some of them tilt to still allow you access to the boot an I think a rack plus tow bar roughly cost the same as 3 roof mounted bike racks an roofbars etc 🙂

ive used the thule 561 and mont blanc barracuda in the past although it holds the bike by the frame ive never had a problem with it scratching the frame at worst you could wrap some clear 3m tape where the carrier touches the frame or some thin rag ? ….I find if im gonna loose any paint its normally on my wheels where the straps clamp there

I presume you mean the trail center ? it gets a bit of mud on the surface at the bottom but not squady its fairly good drainage my only problem is when you start climbing an the draining is better the drier sand sticks to the wet mud an can sound horrible on your drive chain … this aside the grip is still fairly good an rolls well ! have fun

In lincolnshire were quite privileged with wildlife but some of the more memorable ones being when we were going past a woodland an could hear some scampering about an a muntjac deer ran out an clipped rogs rear wheel , I’ve also seen my mate gav with a pheasant between his arms an chest not sure how he managed to stay on , another lad from horncastle claims to have had a juvenile badger in the center triangle of his bike he got off it pretty bloody quick an let the angry badger help himself out didn’t get to see that myself tho!

When a group of us went to cannock after we had finished we locked the bikes on the roof rack an went for a look around the shop when we came back one of the lads bikes had been tampered with … the wheel clips were undone an the clips holding the rack In place on the aero bar had been undone as the bike was locked in place this was as far as who ever had taken a look at the bike had got. It made us all realise we need to be more careful but made me think it’s fairly easy to turn up in a empty transit van in biking gear a few minutes people watching an oh Fred an his 3 mates have popped into the shop/toilet/cafe an bam some ones got 8grand worth of bike in the back of his van he’s not bothered if you get his reg the vans probably got false plates/stolen anyway ….. if some one wants your bike they’ll be able to get it you just have to make it difficult for them an hope it’s too much effort for them … I carnt imagine thiefs going to the effort of turning up at your house to get one bike when there’s hundreds of them kicking about at these trail centers

It’s a crow scarer ….. it’s normally attached to a large slow burning rope … yeah they are bloody loud especially in workshops/metal bins/2″behind your heels etc .Me an my friends have burgered about with them before the fuse is about 4 to 7 seconds long … if your out in the countryside light an chuck it in a field for personal amusement if your in the city/not immature like myself I’d stick it in a bucket of water for 24 hrs

I’m with kuco I love the sound of a nice clean drive train as I pedal along with the only other sound being from the wind passing by also I get the wind rattling round my mouth as I drop my jaw further an further as I concentrate a little to hard …… oh an the panting from a mate as I try to look like I’ve just made it up a hill without even trying even tho I’m dieing inside

I’ve always had it in my mind a solid light allows drivers a reference of how far away(or near) you are and a flashing light is good to grab attention so I always run both I use a few got a knog one that’s easy to take on/off on my seat post one on my helmet and a cheap 3led 2.99jobbie I clip on my bag as said by others I use a bit of vaseline round the edges to help seal from the wet weather . Another addition for me is anything with reflective pipeing on I’ve got a bit on my over shoes when it gets real wet an a reflective jacket …. should really Have some on my bag I also run my forward facing light on my helmet so I can eyeball drivers if I don’t think they’ve seen me….. they soon slow down living in the countryside open roads do tend to favour some adventurous driving by some ….an as simple as it sounds remember to keep the lights clear from mud …. doesn’t matter how bright they are carnt see f all if there caked in dog toffee

Not personally no I know how to get to it thru Willingham woods or from the back of the woods … I’ve herd they have quite a good few runs with some fairly extreme northshore bit even the chicken runs are good fun think there a couple of minutes long at the most an a claimed biggest wall ride in the uk , carnt remember how to find the people who organise it it’s something like rasen trail blazers

Sherwood pines trail center is about 60 miles away from you maybe a bit to far for regular trips I ride from Louth … again about 40 ish miles away regular rides around Louth on Sunday mornings search in Google ‘Louth area mountain bikers’ it’ll bring our forum up an ask some question s on there there’s group rides on Wednesday night from horncastle (getting closer) all friendly lot an accommodating for anyone we normally do 20 to 30 miles probably nearer to 20 now winters here !! Also there’s a shop in Boston a trek dealer carnt remember the name again Google maps search /cycle shops an it should bring them up dunno what there like but they may be able to help ? An finally your various android/iPhone apps I know everytrail/endomondo an strava are used in the area ! Cheers Lincolnshire is flat in places but the wolds produces some fairly good climbing an we can string a good xc ride together !

Rapid racer products (r.r.p.) do presses carnt remember what size the anthem takes but there’s 3 different sizes you get one press for fitting one for removing you’ll also need a bit of threaded bar a couple of washers an some nuts to press the bearing press in/out as it happens superstar components have started doing the same style of press too ….. you can get a special threaded bar to buy with the kit but it’s a rip off from what I remember think the presses are about 20quid each …. the cheaper option is a small bearing drift kit or you could knock them in with a socket but I struggled trying to get them in straight that way! As for the du bushing there are presses on e bay for about 7 quid for them

I have one complaint for mine …. it loves to eat bearings I don’t pressure wash my bike but do wash my bike after most rides with a hose pipe I use it in clear blue sky days to dark wet windy an muddy winter rides …. once you’ve got a tool (or 3) to fetch the bearings in an out it’s not that much hassle its my only bike so it has to get used! I do rate it highly tho I’d recommend changing the little du bushing in the top of your shock regularly for me once every 5/6 months … just saves the top hat bushes wearing out too all depends how often an where you ride mind

I only use the pro pedal on my rp2 on the road yeah the BB is a shimano press fit bb92 carnt remember the internal diameter of it but maybe the x type will fit straight in ? my anthem has 100mm fox on the front but i’ve herd a lot of people say they work well with 120 at the front I’m unsure with headsets Id hazard a guess it’s integrated its a fsa on mine think it’s a orbit
