ive just bought some mavic askiums from bike discount . De i got the ‘2016’ versions as there wider, so far im well happy with them and they seem plenty sturdy enough think I paid similar money for them
jono84Free Memberim fairly happy with nobby nics ….2 for 20quid on the bay ,
…..if op isn’t interested in them smart sams id be happy to take them off your hands for postage 😮jono84Free Memberthat deepens the mistery for me then ….the rims im using are mach1 omegas I first tried to inflste a nobby nic tubeless blew off at 35psi I tend to go to 40 to seat em after that I tried with a tube and it wouldnt seat I bought myself a pair of land cruisers which with a tube I couldnt get any where near 30psi before it started pealing away from the bead i put it down to a rim width issue as I carnt see any fault with the rim or where the bead sits but its all I can put it down too(a faulty rim?) which is why I was on a quest for a wider rim,
the 29er rim idea is what I thought at first but there nearly all for disc applications, open pros seem to of been mensioned more than once and ive read it on previous posts ….looks like that’s what I should aim for thenjono84Free Memberyeah ive come across the open pros but not in a built up wheelset (in budget), ive also come across velocity a23s but not in a wheelset
jono84Free Memberthe top lads will be doing the bike in around an hour but they’ll also be running 34 -35 min 10kms an swimming at a 1:10-1:15per 100m swim pace some people will be taking around 2 hours on the bike, it really is so varied, it will be non drafting at them distances …just keep 7m from the guy in front unless your passing …think your aloud 20sec to pass ….generally if you look to be making a conscious effort to be moving forward or backwards in that draft zone the draft busters shouldn’t bother you
I wouldnt get het up with times, just do the training you can and enjoy it its for fun after all 😉jono84Free MemberWatch “How to use a Torque Wrench on café racers and hot rods” on YouTube

make your own ….it’ll be bad assjono84Free MemberWhile your at it , its worth toeing in your brake pads, mine are frog legs and are post mount as opposed to the allen bolt jobbies….I achieve it by sanding the pads a little so the front edge of the pad hits the rim first, its cured the judder on my dolan
jono84Free MemberThat’s pretty much how my rides end up when I pop down a cheeky gravel road that I maybe shouldn’t be down
jono84Free MemberWhat im curious about with the disc vs non disc debate is when manufacturers start bring aero profiled rims for disc bikes out not very existing I know but surely they wont be far away ?
jono84Free MemberHave you looked into the diy/home brew options? Seems others complaining seem to mix and match with various other products to end up with some ‘super sealent’ seems to be a mix of stans/slime an antifreeze with rubber fileings not tried it myself but im planning to on my next set of cx tyres
jono84Free MemberIf im totally honest im pre empting chain drops/ rattling about, I have a clutch mech on my mtb an I like the way it eliminates all the rattling about down hill and when the mech gets cloged up with grass it allows me to carry on riding for longer until I can find somewhere to clear it all out , curiosity led me to asking
jono84Free MemberIve come across the bbb ones but again struggling to find them for under 15 quid , seems wedgy when a normal cartridge brake is about 6/7quid , I might have to bite the bullet but was curious if there were any other options out there I keep wondering if a v brake style pad would hold along the threaded shaft ? But id hazard a guess the post is a different width
jono84Free MemberI have one of the rear tacx saddle mount bottle holders on my tri bike, ive lost a few bottles as it has a habit of launching them, if you teamed it up with a x labs gorilla cage it might hold it but there 40quids worth personally I wouldn’t trust it on a cx bike id be tempted to use a small camelbac or maybe a jersey pocket if you have one that will securely hold one only my 2ps worth tho no real life experiance other than I dont think tje saddle mount is for you
jono84Free MemberIf your thinking of doing more or even more duathlons a tri suit is great to speed things up, however as has been said probably not worth it for your first ‘just for fun’ I usually sow my pockets up but most of my swimming is ow now so doesnt really matter if you do opt for a tri suit you’ll want a number belt too to save you pinning the numbers to your tri top/suit, again I wouldn’t bother with socks but if you feel the need talc and put them on when you set transition up and roll them up …..there easier to roll on when your feet arw wet rather than pull on….if your wearing swim shorts/jammers rather than speedo type trunks id be tempted to just bike in them as its usually only around 10-15 mile
jono84Free MemberWell further digging on the internet an turns out ive been a idiot, not done any harm what so ever, it worried me having the pressure in the can reversed but this is totally normal, as for the pro pedal …makes me wonder is thats all in my head, once ive built the bike back up I’ll know for sure thanks for everyones involvement
jono84Free MemberRorschach you may be on to something …… I removed the shock from my bike (to fit du bushing), while I was at it I let the air pressure out and unscrewed the shock body/air can with intentions of replacing the float fluid…..I pulled the body down (which usually sucks itself back up towards the threads) BUT pulled the bottom of the air can body off the bottom of the shaft letting what I presumed was the nitrogen out,( I may be wrong here? )the air can was then a royal pain to force back into place as it had pressure now pulling the body away from the threads …..if this is air in the negative side is it something I can sort ? Or by pressuring my air can back up will it self adjust ? As I mentioned the pro pedal doesnt seem to have the same positive adjustment anymore ?
jono84Free MemberThanks for the offer , ive seen some americans have modified a normal valve to fit but the parts there using seem difficult to source in the uk
jono84Free MemberAlso curious as the needle thats required appears to be a special tool thats only avaliable to fox service centers ?
jono84Free MemberI know little of your particular garmin, but had a error with my garmin 310xt which I struggled with, a hard reset seemed to solve all ? Just s thought
jono84Free MemberI race in standard dist tris and local 10-25-tts, got a giant trinity and picked up some planet x 82/101s last year, I was new to tubs then, the tubs really are no hassle to mount, ive used tape but will move onto glue as ive been told this can reduce crr, the wheels were a upgrade from the alloy 42mm ‘giant’ wheels the bike came with. The 82 front can be a handful in the wind and a bit of a personal choice whether your confident enough to ride with them and keep tucked in unfortunately the slab sides of the planet x do get effected by cross winds more so than a more expensive brand that have more technology plowed into the shape of the rim, personally I can’t afford them hence the planet x, since ive had the planet x ive ran a diy plastic cover on the back to convert it to a ‘disk’ I like em and think they were a good investment, yes I bought them to go quicker but also bought them because I like the look of them (not going to put somthing that looks like dirt on my bike am I 🙂 ) personally now ive been racing for the year on them I think my money would of probably been better spend on a disk especially as you have a decent 50mm front all ready,
as for cheap bit decent tubs, I buy mine from planet x (again) when they have there offers on picked up some vittoras corsa cx21x700 front an 23 for the back, the rims arnt wide an a 21mm front should hopefully cut thru the air better which think I got the pair in a december sale for around 40-50quid ….which is a downside of tubs they usually aint cheap, yes some clinchers may roll better with latex tubes but yourll be paying thru the nose for them too …..sorry to waffle on just trying to get all I can think of across so to re cap …happy with mine but looking back id go 50-diskjono84Free MemberIm competing in the European Tri in July in Geneva , my understanding is transfer from the airport to the city is free (but costs around 4-5 quid on return) this may open yoir options for storage up if you could find somewhere in the city ? Just a thought 🙂 cheers
jono84Free MemberTry paul at 100% swimming cyprus if he can’t help he’ll definitely be able to put you on to someone who does
jono84Free MemberDoesn’t matter if your a pro, just get a new one for next race
jono84Free MemberI just put mine in the wash basket and they magically appear clean the week after along with the rest of my clothes
jono84Free Memberlucasade do them sports caps on there plastic bottles to, another point and shoot option
jono84Free Memberim on the side of a cold bath actually, after ive competed when I get home I run a bath just deep enough to cover my legs with cold water and sit in it for 20minutes ive herd the first 10minutes helps reduce any swelling and the second 10 help with the healing process, it stops me getting stiff muscles the day after, however I only have to face the prospect of it once a month not every day , the first 30seconds you’ll question your life and wonder what the hell your doing in there, after that its fine an plenty tolerable ….try it you might like it 🙂
jono84Free MemberI like sherwood its about a hr an a half drive for me as others have said, centerparcs is next door if you were to make a weekend of it but other than that id be searching google for local b and bs
jono84Free MemberI use them vittoria latex tubes on my triathlon bike (6quid from ribble!) with mitchilen pro race3s, they do feel to have more spring in them and in return id say they have made me faster I have to pump them up every ride, they’ll drop to 60psi over a week probably 80/90 over 24hrs, if your racing or serious about your times id buy them if your just a social rider they could get pricey compared to planet x tubes at 1.99 each, altho ive not flatted on them yet ! , my advice for fitting them is take your time to make sure you don’t pinch them while fitting and try not to get your fingers all over them they don’t like the oil from your hands I covered mine in talc to stop this and also stop it sticking to the tire ….try them worth the gamble for 12quid surely? …..oh and carry a butyl spare as you don’t want to be buggering about trying to fit a latex tube on the side of the road
jono84Free MemberBritish bike hire charge 80quid for a day tt bike hire, its one of the new Raleighs by the looks of it, I love my tt bike, if yourd dedicated to time trialing or triathlon id recomend one, if your undecided I wouldn’t bother for me, seconds count these days
jono84Free Memberthere respected in the tt community think Alex Dowsett rides/rode one
jono84Free Memberive used a thin piece of welding rod before, with some careful bending/shapeing at the end and a torch ive poked it thru both holes then tied the inner cable to the rod and pulled it thru (my bike has no outer cable on the inside)
jono84Free Member2011 giant trinity, the previous owner had the bike stollen from him an they made a right mess of the frame, I stripped it all back with paint stripper on the frame and thinners on the carbon fork, I then had a local automotive car sprayer spray it in black with white on the inside edges the stickers were from a local sign writter I gave him the sizes and ideas an he came back with that, there not lacquered over but nothing stopping them being so , stickers and frame sprayed for 100quid, so my suggestion is to try locally to you see what you can find ?http://imgur.com/6O9vg2L
jono84Free MemberI own a thule ride on 3 bike rack an its ace, feels secure and I trust it, its the next best option for me other than carrying it in side the vehicle which isnt always possible, i was also supprised at the c3s nose weight seems ok with it tho
jono84Free Memberone thing you will have to watch out for is what nose weight the towbar would be able to take legally, when mointed to your car. I own a c3 an legally it can only carry something like 35kg, so with the bike rack weighing in at around 15kg it struggles to hold 2 xc bikes legally, it supposedly can make the steering light altho ive not noticed this ….maybe because when I have 3 bikes on the back ive also got 3 people in the car weighing the front down for me :)… ive also never been stopped altho I presume the dvla can check this road side?
jono84Free Memberas above swim smooth seems to be what a lot of the coaches teach these days, swimming is very technique driven, for me what I found helped was being filmed, a lot of what I thought I was doing…I wasn’t .certain drills help too as to concentrate on specific parts of your stroke, im lucky enough to have access to local swim sessions and running club, (I presume your getting/are already into triathalon) im hopeing to qualify for gb age groups this gear after a successful first year this year, its quite addictive !!
