My better half is 5’2″ and her new love is a 29er Anthem W. She’s been riding for years and tried a friends at xmas. She’s more confident riding drops and steeps and is a pain to try and keep up with.
    I hate it.

Without looking at the store surely the item is subject to duty and import vat which will put the cost above £300 anyway? Not even looked at the shipping charge. :|

Do the mega with your mates. Commit to a week and rent an apartment. There’s loads of accomodation as the place is set up for thousands of skiers not a few hundred bikers. You can scope it all out in sections through the week. Once you know the trail you shouldn’t be intimidated and can ride your own race. If you get bored mid week get over to Deux Alpes for a change. You will NOT regret it :D

Which is what I suggested on Saturday anyway !?

Yup, but I can’t get my head round them putting a shock on a bike that doesn’t do the job properly so I had to ask. If I spent hundreds on any other product that didnt do the job it’s supposed to from new I’d be livid. I’m still non too pleased about this. :|

So no chance that the shock could be tuned incorrectly and I need to speak to Canyon?

Can’t comment on any other rims but crests can be a bugger to get some tyres on

You take your chances when you but SH and it must have been a very hard strike to bust a pedal.

If you have the frame repaired take into account that the bike has a low BB in the first place and the nature of the suspension tends to keep it even lower. When I rode a 2011 enduro the shock blew through too fast for my liking even with 20% sag. Combination of all three meant I had to be really careful to avoid pedal strikes and that’s why I decided against getting one.

Similar delay here but still no news on shipping date, it was moved back to week 50 awaiting a part – hopefully the same one that is now in stock to have shipped yours. Moving from riding meta’s for a long time too so it’s good to read that you get on with it.

Sounds from comments like the frame and geometry are the issue more than the parts. I ride a meta 5 and its a few ounces short of 33lbs with a very similar build but don’t have any problems. Frame weighs 7.5lbs. Then again sometimes it’s what you are used to and how you ride – I have a habit of breaking things so generally don’t buy light stuff.

Friends went with Johnny a few years ago and said it was great, told him what they wanted and the holiday was largely tailored to that plus I believe they got to ride with Wade Simmons. I went with T2R several years ago, I would ask if they have anyone with any idea about first aid because no one had a clue then. The riding was outstanding though and Tyax a must though insist on the longer route if the weathers up to it – and the riding is hard, a lot more involving than your british trail centre

He can’t pick up his number, wrist band, free day pass and goody bag until he gets to Chatel so he’ll have to pay for a lift pass on the day unless he can blag it. It’s a long day out (unless you are fit and don’t like food n beer)so tell him to get off on the first lift – not much fun waiting around

Like Northwind said – no ones riding a DH bike in the vid.
If that’s what you want to do look at something like a Scott Voltage fr30. Not light mind. DMR trailstar as a hardtail alternative

Visited a few times and my brother has lived in Calgary for 15 years or so. Not for me but he loves it. Banff is great but expensive. Vancouver / BC on the other hand I would move to tomorrow. However
    Canadians can be strange!

Done the same as stoner on alloy frame with alloy post, three cuts down the length of a long post. A LOT of patience needed and if you use this method you still need to prize the sections of post away from the frame by tapping a screwdriver down between the frame and post.

What Dasnut said. The DH tracks have a day in them at most. The freeride run though is great – a must do several times. Drive up the road to La Thuile for some great riding that has hardly anyone else on it. A lot of this is very natural, rooty and rocky and great fun. Went for a day last year and stayed longer. No braking bumps as no-one uses the place. It were cool mind, top lift had snow in July first day. Drive over the top to get to La Rossiere for more.

Got some from Merlin in July and found them to be really good. A bit too keen sometimes for an all mountain bike – they came with 200mm rotors. Merlin had them on offer -so with the 10% off for being registering as a VIP it worked out about the same as direct from formula.

I’ve lurked around this thread avoiding comment for a couple of days but the post by kiwi dave it has to be said is spot on. I have done quite a a few mtb holidays, at least three with SC over the years and enjoyed just about every one of them. I would go back, not for the riding, but the fact it’s a chilled out holiday by the beach and pool with a a bit of half decent cycling thrown in.

Only holiday I have come back a stone heavier each time despite riding every day :)

I’ve sucessfully used number 10 in sheldon’s list. Tried using various things to dissolve the oxide but all failed. It was a really long job though, I reckon about 6 hours split over 4 days to cut the seatpost twice lengthways. You will still need to prise the two surfaces away – I used a big screwdriver and a mallet.

If your stuck seatpost is one of the ones that is a tube with a the clamp assembly bonded on you could look to break the bond, pull off the clamp and cut the post down to the right length before putting the clamp back on. Secure it again by drilling a small hole through both post and clamp and using a bolt the same diameter as the hole you drilled to keep it tight – also use some loctite bearing fit to bond the two surfaces again.

You should have got one when you bought it – with some stickers, a spare part for the switch fastening, and some stick on cable guide thingies. As it’s US made it’s probably imperial rather than metric

2010 5.5. 150mm revs with maxle, pro2’s and flows, high roller / minnion, GD, 70mm stem, 700mm bars, SLX double with a stinger and DX pedals. Standard QR on rear – may go to 12mm axle and a u-turn Lyric. Had a 2007, then 2008 before.

Ride all sorts of terrain but stick with a hardtail for local stuff. All bikes went to the alps, also trail centres, peaks, etc. 2007 was probably the best

If you bought your bike new and it’s less that 2 years old you’ll void the warranty if you respray it.

Unless you have a map or someone guiding you expect to get lost.

You would normally expect mud but the last couple of weeks it’s been superb, nice and dry on the DH.

There are lots of routes, the red xc is waymarked and almost always muddy, keep yer eye out for the signs though. Local knowledge helps a lot to get the best from the woods.

rs – definite play between axle and bush that grease alone cannot cure, no wear on the axle.

Davesport – Even with fairly regular greasing I’m lucky to get 12 months out of the bushing. Running v12’s on three bikes. I’ve seen 1/2 inch shock bushes cheaper on ebay in the US than most places over here so figured I may be able to get the same for the pedals.

If people are getting a lot more time out of theirs I’ll have to get my hands dirty more often

Wife has one of these and loves it – new it was just over 26lbs, good at everything, did the alps with burlier wheels, tyres, shorter stem. If there’s one thing it needs it’s a different shock to the brain shock on it – rp23 would definitely improve it. Reviews said better at going down than up but that’s probably compared to xc bikes. Best not show her this or we’ll be poorer tonight !!

Titanium – off the internet at about £35. There’s some nice ones out there.

If its a soft metal like silver or gold you need to remember to take it off everytime you start doing stuff on the bike or round the house as it will score and ruin it. If you take it off and lose it (who would do that) it costs a fortune to replace and your other half will get upset with you for weeks because of the sentimental value of something you exchanged on that special day. It obviously didn’t mean enough to you !! 3 rings the same for £100 will solve that problem and save you a fortune.

Borrowed a demo bike for a full bank holiday for nowt. So impressed with the bike I bought one straight away. Excellent service since – big thanks to JD cycles. £25 for a bike at Chevin last year – worth the charge as I decided against and took it back covered in sheep s***

Love mine. Had 2007, 2008 and now 2010. New ones are better build quality, and any issues seem to have been sorted with a change of design and the factory making them.

Climbing ability is good, rear wheel keeps traction well, shortish top tube helps with getting your weight in the right place to keep the front from wandering. Descending and singletrack superb. 2008 models were flexi at the back, 2010 less so.

As above the bike is confidence inspiring and this was probably one of the reasons for a few people having cracking issues as well as the manufacturing. Lots of people out there riding bikes with no problems at all. I broke a 2003 enduro as well as the above which at the time was the bike to inspire confidence so maybe some of its down to me doing more than the bike was intended for.

Frame is heavy but I'm happy with that, and it doesnt look like it belongs on a farm (orange 5). Might be happier with the carbon model. Real Cycles and Freeflow have end of season bargains to be had on 2010 models as well..

BB replaced with bucket of shimano anti – sieze. Still creaking as bad.
Greased up contact area for rear wheel and skewer. Still creaking as bad.
Stripped down the frame and threw it in the Calder. Can still hear it creaking under 10ft of water. :(

Will drag it out and look for cracks but on my initial look over I couldnt see anything. Apart from x- raying it anyone have any tips for locating hairline cracks – something to paint on maybe that shows them up?
