My saints have been awesome, got them cheap in the sale about £30 I think.

Bombproof, I like to wack my pedals I will take the strength card at the expense of a bit more weight. They have taken a fair share of hits and come out unphased.

I’ve not been in a pool properly for years, might actually get back into it.

Not sure what my time for 400m was, 200m front crawl I was under 2 mins at 14. I would be very surprised if I got that now!

I would check a swimming club, I remember at mine they had a ‘masters team’ basically parents and the like, wanting to keep fit.

Lessons or join a local swimming club.

I swam from aged 11 – 18, a lot, competing in galas and comps all over. I’m rusty now but you never lose that technique.

Saw them bank and head towards Thwaites about 3pm here in Tockholes. Awesome sight and even better noise – wish I’d of got pictures but like others, I wanted to see them in person rather than through a screen!

Not much help but, I have the same rims with On-One Smorgasbord tyres and tubeless with Joe’s No Flats. Been fine for me and I am not easy on the wheels!

Running an SLX dual with an On-One 34T NW ring, no bash. All good so far!

Key to getting a good run is to avoid walkers!

Always none when trekking up but they come out of the woodwork on the way down. Frustrating!

Will be looking to get my first set of lights for this winter.

Been doing some research and the solarstorm x2 seems to be the one that crops up most. Does anyone have any experience buying these from anywhere? Not sure what sites are legitimate or not.

Would the SSX2 be needed on both bars and helmet? Or is this overkill for the helmet torch?

As said park at the bottom and ride up. There may be some lay-bys on the road which you could make use of – but it’s a fast road so watch where you park.

I’ve seen people sessioning that descent on DH rigs before. Not sure the point – surely overkill? But each to their own.

Bell Super is good. Gets hotter than my 661 recon on the warmer days that we’ve had recently. But the rest of the time it’s pretty good.

More protection so you do feel more secure in it than other helmets.

Yeah, update to a later model. The 4S could well be phased out of updates by the end of the contract.

Not a fan. Found it very boring. The highlight of one episode was where he threw a pizza onto a roof. Didn’t watch any more after that.

    Over-hyped for me I’m afraid.

    Borough Market.

Honest Burgers, good quality yet cheap burger & rosemary chips. Sorted.

British & Science Museum/IWM/Nat Hist/Tate all good and free. HMS Belfast is cool if you’re into that sort of thing, and very close to Borough Market.

Providing you are pretty central, walk to places. Cheaper and you will see/bump into a lot more!

    Thanks.

I don’t mind the Nab. Quite fun at speed and you can session the black or do a few loops of the red. Could be better than staying in on a nice evening?

You’re close to Rivington/White Coppice/Tockholes though which all have great riding.

Lee Quarry and Gisburn are great if you could drive over, but would end up being late back which wouldn’t help the 5am get up!

Mk5 GTI is 200bhp standard. Stage 1/2 will see 250 mind.

130i/135i 1 series are supposed to be fun. Might fall short of your MPG criteria though.

The new Focus ST (2T ecoboost) could fit the bill. Possibly will depreciate more so than the German brands but to me it fulfils your criteria, estate versions could also be had.

Audi do a cracking 3.0tdi engine which can be had in the A4/5 etc. 240bhp 40+ mpg.. but it will not be as good as the Focus/your Golf.

ps. if you golf has sensible miles and is in good nick, let me know

Get some video cameras in there.

Suspect there is a draft coupled with a door that doesn’t quite fit. Does the temperature change at all?

Used to work in a really old pub with similar goings on, doors opening and closing seemingly on their own. Just put it down to the character of the house!

Great Northern would be ok. All Star Lanes, beer and bowling. Awesome Almost Famous next door for burger goodness. Then you have the Brewdog bar not too far which is great.

But Northern Quarter is a good shout.

I have some Helly Hansen shoes, think they’re called Jaeger?

Bought them ages ago, still going strong. Stick to my saints, durable and weatherproof!

First time ordering some of their own brand On-One Smorgasbord tyres. Ordered Friday, the package arrived Thursday. All seemed well.

Until I find that I have only received one of the two tyres I ordered.

Upon phoning them I find that they ‘thought’ Smorgasbord in the compound I wanted was out of stock (wasn’t on the website) and would phone me back shortly.

About 1hr45 passed and I phoned them back, got the same gentlemen on the phone who confirmed that they were not in stock and would I like a replacement. Got one sent out to me, but it arrived the Wednesday after.. almost two weeks after my original order date.

Am I right in thinking it’s good practice to inform the customer that a product they have ordered is out of stock? Just got a bit miffed as I was hoping to get them all in time for the weekends ride.

Tyres are great though and I do like supporting UK companies.
Though my first experience ordering with them has definitely soured my thoughts on Planet-X/On-One.

    @GavinB

Cheers for that. Will try get chance to check out the route from Rivi to Nab.

Not sure why I’ve been going down to Abbey Village via Great Hill, just the way I’ve done it. Will have to go on an exploration ride to White Coppice if it is as good as said!

Borough Market is great for a quick snack – tube London Bridge. Could then walk along the river front to the tate (past Shakespeares globe)

Camden is good fun, can get busy quick though. Honest Burgers would be a great lunch option, pretty cheap too.

Parks would be great in this weather, obviously Hyde and Regents. Victoria Park is great, there is a cafe, Pavillion, which does great breakfast would be a joy on a sunny morning sitting outside and tucking in!

British Museum and Natural History are the pick of the bunch imo – I think War Museum is closed for refurb?

I’d try make sure you don’t get the tube everywhere.. as a lot of central London is very easily walked and you can really bump into some nice places.

Live in Tockholes so pretty familiar with the area. I take it the ‘San Marino’ is the run down from Winter Hill to San Marino?

Personally prefer some of the runs down from Darwen Tower, providing the wind isn’t too strong and they aren’t busy.

I’ve never really got the Great Hill hype, find those slabs difficult to maintain speed and the descent back to Abbey Village isn’t worth it.

Can anyone recommend me a route from Rivington over to Healey Nab?
