The route posted looks like a goodun, browns folly (on the right) can also be linked up to go all the way to dundas aqueduct along some good trails, but do be polite to walkers as you shouldn’t really be riding there.. Also there are various trails dotted about starting at the top of lansdown. I assume it’s just XC you’re looking for?

Just a note, do not use any of the methods which involve soaking, burning, freezing etc or otherwise harming the tick, as these cause it to release its gut content into your blood, giving you any diseases it might be carrying. Only realy safe method is to use a tick removal tool, or carefully remove with tweezers at the very bottom with a slow but firm pull and a slight twist

I wouldn't change them if I were you – Shorter pins = more chance of slipping your foot and mashing up your calfs!

Very helpful thanks Limy, going to be riding the freeride/downhill courses so is a guide necessary? What's the extra cost for that? BearBack how should I get hold of you, give you an email or something?

hmm, I do quite fancy a 2.5 on the front but the high roller is looking a bit bare, if I put the Minion on the back what would be a good option to buy for the front?

I thought those matches were in relation to the possible England tactics for the world cup – strike anywhere

Is there anyone who rides here who could possibly show me and a mate some of the DH runs some time in the future? We're over in Bath and from this thread seems like it's worth checking out!

From what I've seen/experienced, absolutely bombproof rims/wheels at a very good weight. Had a mate do a 10ft drop to flat (no exaggeration) and were still perfect afterwards

Price isn't a huge worry for me as I work in a bike shop so I get trade prices. RF Atlas or renthal fat bars look nice to me, really struggling to decide on a stem though! Seems like the general decision for DH is lower and wider

Ah silly me, had that link saved somewhere as it seemed very useful but didn't think to use it! Pretty much explains everything, thank you!

Thanks for the info, I assume then it's much the same as rockshox and fox to remove the lowers i.e loosen off nuts, wack with mallet and pull off lowers?

Doesn't seem to be any info on there for servicing forks

Had this problem a while ago, all you can do is use brute force (In the form of a vice/pliers) or tap them through from the other side. Mine were so seized on that the bearing came out of the hub attached to it when i got it off

I meant the bit it says to do before, where you use the bottle to squeeze fluid into the caliper, then release to draw air out. Does this not draw air in from the lever end?

Make him get some lessons first – If he sticks with it and enjoys it then go ahead and buy him a kit plus when playing at home it will be less torturous for you. If he doesn't enjoy it then you haven't wasted money on a kit!

Just use the 11t off of a cassette!

Pretty sure these have a little hooky bit on the end that means you can only put it at the end of the freehub

Just had the same thing, needed some springs by themselves. Emailed hope directly on the service email (on their website) and got a prompt reply saying they're sending me out a new set for free!

The main seal indicated by the arrow is still there, but as i said the o ring below it definately isn't there, I've just checked and it's definately not stuck in the outer part of the assembly either

Checked out Cadence today, in my opinion one of the nicest bike shops in Bath! Good range of products there and very friendly owners, workshop prices seem quite reasonable and the feel of the whole shop seems really easy and fresh if that makes any sense?

John's bikes are very expensive usually but you get what you pay for

AVC are pretty good on price and service but check out Hares in Weston for the best price, quality and service.

Total fitness haven't closed, just moved a couple of doors up into a bigger shop. Sounds like i need to check out Cadence as well!

To be honest all these frames sound great but I really don't have the money! I'm still trying to decide really if one of these all mountain type bikes will be enough for what I want to do or if I should just go for something like a bighit which will be perfect for the downhills and I might still be able to pedal with a lot of effort! I mainly want this bike for having fun on downhill runs like cwmcarn but also thought it could be fun to have a bike for exploring the hills and trails around where I live! Is it possible just to stick two chainrings up front and have a widish ratio cassette for the hills?

What other bikes do you have if any? Is this a single bike to do everything or a bit more specialist seeing as you have hardtail/other FS bike?

Pretty much a single bike to do everything apart from dedicated long cross country rides. Something to have a bit of fun on and not be worried it won't be capable on a downhill run, but still be able to pedal around the hills with mates!

The orange alpine looks ideal but I really don't have that kind of money unless I manage to pick up an absolute bargain second hand! Definately nothing over £1000, the more I have to spend will mean the longer I have to wait to get it!

Haven't got the hugest budget, I suppose I'll see how much I have spare around the time I'm buying! And I'll be buying second hand to get the best value. In terms of something like a pitch, will that be enough if I'm taking in down the dowhill courses? Thinking maybe something like a spesh enduro might be quite good, but would that be light enough (obviously depends on my willpower/fitness) to pedal around?

Which stickers are you looking for? I have some 2009 32 vanilla stickers which I bought but have no need for them now as i've bought some new lowers
