Echo some of the comments about Conti tyres.
Long time fan here but had a side wall tear recently and just not happy with their durability in general, knobs being ripped off etc, on their “protection” tyres
Looking at going for another manufacture, possible Maxxis…?
Looking for a X King / Race King type combo with better durability ?
    Any ideas?

Our daughter had this diagnosed early like yours.
    She wore the harness etc.
We stuck to the rules about when to take it off and how long to keep it on etc etc and she’s fine now aged 7
    Never been an issue.
She’s very flexible/ hypermobile etc but lives a normal life, doing gymnastics, riding her bike etc.

Have one here at home. Took advantage of the 0% offer last year on a reconditioned one.
Pretty addictive and will increase your fitness levels if used correctly. Currently use it for power workouts- 10 sec intervals etc.
Use it more in the winter in the evening etc when the weathers bad and I don’t fancy going out.
Have a look on their website for workouts etc

Thanks for the replies but be honest I was after a cheap roll from ebay etc.
It’s not to completely cover the bike, just the prone to rub areas, not too bothered if it looks shite.
As long as it does its job.

    Thanks for the replies

I guess as long as it’s on par with XT then I’ll be happy.
Don’t see any advantages of XTR other than weight and as long as X1 performs as well as XT then
    thats fine

Back home now. On reflection it was a brilliant event. Well organised as usual. Regarding the course I think I preferred it last year…wether or not that’s because it was dry I’m not sure
I think the new decent was just a bit too techy especially for soloists at night especially after 15 – 20 laps and if it had rained I’m sure there would have been more accidents
I suppose you’ve got to cater for all levels and team riders too but that’s my opinion. Maybe a “b” or “tired solo line” could be offered too?

    Somethings I will remember

    The atmosphere – awesome
    The misty dawn lap
    The encouragement from spectators
The way that little drop off after the new swoopy bit changed every lap
Getting to he bottom of the two dodgy descents and not falling off.

By the way I can’t down load the results on either an I pad or my lap top, any ideas?

Oh and don’t do the power naps. They’ll turn into full on sleeps and you talk your self out of going out for another’s of.
    It’s only 24hours…. One day…..

    Hi there,

    1) can be about 1 – 400 m away from start area, depending on how early you get there.
    2) dump the bike down. Next to your tent.
    3) table set up either track side or next to your tent or both depending one here you get set up.
If your lucky and early you’ll get to pitch your tent right next to the track so best of both worlds.
    4) Provide your own food in the tent!

    Hope that answers your questions

Weather looks ok at the moment for the weekend according to the BBC forecast.
It’s quite a well draining course so all being well….
But of rain/mud will make it interesting anyway!

I think short travel full suss would be best. Any time lost on the climbs would be gained and enjoyed on the downs, and everybody likes going downhill don’t they.
I think a hardtail would be slightly quicker up the fire road climbs, but don’t fancy those descents 6/7/8… times on a hardtail either

Is it worth it price wise getting the more powerful one?
What sort of extra run times you getting from each?

Yeah, I blame the crap briefing…
I haven’t done the event before or ridden at Hamsterley for that matter and didn’t have a clue where I was most of the time.
However I will be back next year if not before!

Used to use schwalbe tyres but swopped to conti last year and in my opinion conti are much better. Much less rolling resistance, longer lasting, easier to seat and better grip, try the race king, surprisngly good in all but thick mud

3rd time this year as a soloist, looking for a top 10 place this year.
It’s prrety much either up or down. 6/7 miles per lap. Hard long slog up and then awesome downs. It’s a great event with a real good atmosphere. I imagine it’ll be tricky if it rained, especially the down hill sections being cross camber and very, rooty in places.
If your doing it as a pair I would train by riding hard for 45 mins to an hour, then easy or stop then go out again, and repeat up to 3 or 4 times. Get used to stopping and starting. I imagine you might do anywhere between 3/4 laps each so about 18-24 miles ish each. As a pair I’d ride a hard tail.
I’m on a short travel full suss but only cause it’ll be none stop for me.
    Hope that helps, a bit

They are based on max heart rate via Garmin, not sure on the wattbike, you could be right though….

    Don’t bother
Put more effort into your turbo session, make sure you can’t / don’t want to do your squats afterwards, save them for the next session.
Unless your doing 2 sessions a day and you can leave a long time in between, even then 2 hard sessions a day isn’t always a good idea.
Just do one good session a day.
You can always make The exercise harder by changing the tempo and increasing the range etc.
