I had exactly similar issue/perception. Also felt like it ‘wallowed’ sometimes although the rebound I thought did make a difference. Propedal hardly any difference. Hard to explain exactly – but never felt quite right. Also had to run with a pretty high shock pressure to get the right level of sag. Kept tweaking the pressures and found it very sensitive to this. Got it as best I could, but ran next to no rebound where it eventually felt ok – but nevertheless pretty was always a little ‘chattery’ and never as plush as I wanted.

Prior to buying it – I had a demo on it with a rockshox aircan(can’t remember which one) but I can’t recall having the same issues – obviously or I possibly wouldn’t have bought it!

Eventually put a coil on it (CCDB) and feels really good now and happy – but obviously there is a weight penalty and not insignificant cost to consider!

I love my mk1 but being steel it does seem to be rusting from the inside out. Every time I finish a wet ride and put it on the roof rack it dribbles rusty water all over the roof off my car like its got incontinence. Funny – but I don’t ever recall that happening with my ’88 Saracen Tufftraks.

I’m definitely in the skeptical camp although i do check chain wear and replace chain religiously. On 3rd change of chain I’ve sometimes had to change the cassette anyway so not convinced that overall it saved me any money.

I’m in a similar boat after getting a ticket last weekend. B**ers had a bin bag over the pay and display machine and still put a ticket on me car. My intention is to take pleasure in ignoring every letter they send me.

I tend to have less issue with simple chainrings than the shimano ones with all the ramps and pins. i’ve had good experiences with blackspire.

In case anyone is interested the weight difference for me based on the spring i bought off of fivespot (thanks mate picked up this morning) based on my kitchen scales is:

    215 x 63 CCDB = 470g + 450# Steel coil at 530g = 1005g
    215 x 63 CCDB + 450# Ti coil at 370g = 840g

Hi Fivespot – I would be interested – how old is it and why are you selling?

Having gone from a fox rp23 to the CCDB – my original intention was to swap back to air can depending on the type of riding i was doing. the difference was so profound there is no way i’m taking the ccdb off!

However – its now pushed the bike to just over 34lb’s and it is starting to feel a little lardy so I need to shave some weight somewhere.

My mates ‘ones’ on his spicy are less powerful with a 180/180 setup than my saints with 203/180 setup. Not sure what the difference would be if he upgraded the rotor but he was struggling a little at Cwmcarn on saturday.

we’re staying in bristol on the saturday and heading back aston hill is about 45 minutes out the way so not a major diversion

So we all will have 160mm travel bikes accept for one of us who will be on something slightly smaller. Maybe a but overkill for Ashton Court perhaps? But would be nice to have the choice and make the call based on how broken we feel after saturday 🙂

I use both after being an SPD only advocate.

As everyone says pros and cons.

I use flats for hack about rides and spd’s if I need to cover any sort of distance (i guess xc’ish style riding).

I like flats as much for the big platform as anything else – feels nice when jumping and dropping (i have Vaults and 5-10 freeriders).

Don’t talk to me about PAYE. I just filled in my online tax return for 10/11 and I apparently own £3k….. given the choice i would so much rather be overcharged throughout the year.

How about earning more money by working more and reducing hours spent posting messages on forums?

The awesome thing is that I earn a good wage and get to post on here all the time….

    Where’s the smug smiley?

Yes me also. Great isn’t it?

My comment was mainly targeted at the moaning work-shy slackers that are having to compare Aldi and Lidl.

Not the work shy slackers like you and me you understand.

    Oh c’mon – I’m just kidding.

yes – mostly when i’m own my own and particularly if i woose something out, in which case i’ll session a few times until i feel like i’m not being so pathetic.

Yes – took it out for a first night ride monday night last week.

So i use the 900 lumen torches you get from deal extreme (and still do for spot on the helmet)

Had to run it on second from top power as it chewed through the battery really quick. Still much brighter than the 900 lumen torch on second from top. Very ‘floody’ so I think it makes a better bar mount than helmet possibly.

    before talking to your LBS

You mean the distributor or LBS? I already spoke to the LBS who always go well out of their way to be super helpful. But they’re stuck twixt rock and hard place.
