Why’s everyone going on about all the “CGI”?

It’s mostly physical “old school” FX

    not getting holiday/sick pay sucks

I’ve just become a flat rate VAT LTD company. My accountant has said I’ll save a hell of a lot over PAYE (even normal sole trader)

Did my last session at San Marino last Monday so would have been in next Monday. My work in Manchester has finished now, so I won’t be able to come 🙁

Good to meet you all for the rides over the Summer, some great places! 🙂

(Least I’m not having to do the 5.30am drive up from Derby, 3 days a week now!)

I’ve got my bike in the car…….new RockShox Vivid shock with Ti spring fitted, new dual ply 2.5 tyre on the back, fully replaced all bearings…….I’ve got the afternoon off….

    Guess where I’m going? 🙂

I bought a roll of cheap medical tape off ebay. You cut a tiny square to cover your teat. Doesn’t get caught in your hairs then.

Yeah I think the bearings I was trying to remove were too big for your tool. (wasn’t trying to say it was cr*p) 🙂

The rear shock mount has a sealed bearing either side of the shock mount (newly replaced) and then a plastic thing and a washer (to fill the gap either side of the shock mount/between to frame mountings

I’ve read something about the bolt not being long enough so it doesn’t actually tighten all the way. Tried searching for the link but can’t find it now…

    So…..

I tried the above chainring bolt method…..couldn’t get it to work. The chainring seemed to have to expand too far before it could get any grip.

I tried last night with a hammer and screw driver.

Tonight I tried a bigger hammer and a bigger screwdriver…..result! Bearings out! 🙂

All bearings done and rebuilt. Still got a tiny bit of play in the rear shock mount though 🙁

    ha ha!! I’m getting a reputation! 🙂

I’m only doing this as I don’t get much chance to ride the DH bike. This is a good place to get used to it before heading over to Antur Stiniog next month.

Got a new rear shock to get all set up nicely too, so I’ll be back over there this coming Monday. 🙂

EDIT: I’ve not skidded once on San Marino so no deep groove from me. Although there were some other skids 2 weeks ago when I stacked it!

Will report back tmw with how it all went….

You have to drill out the end of the V-brake nut?

Once all this is put through the bearing, is it just a case of tightening it until the bearing pops out or do you tighten it in then whack it with a hammer?

(just want to get the technique down before I go and try it tmw night)

Would you say it’s impossible with a blind bearing puller? (due to no space to get purchase)

EDTI: looking at your 1st pic above. Is that how it’d be pointing if you standing behind the bike and were to be removing the outer right hand side bearing?

    jonjones262

    Nice one ^^^ 🙂

what’s the bolt size? (or whatever will fit through the bearing middle hole)

Can you use the above/blind bearing puller to get the outer bearings out and then a normal bearing press on the inners (as the outer ones will be out of the way)? (hope that makes sense)

ha ha!! I’m setting up my full suss bike….honest!! 🙂

I don’t get to ride the big bike much so it’s a good chance to go somewhere with a decent DH run.

Plus the 25 minute walk up for 3 mins down is soooo much fun….

(I might have become addicted to trying to get a good Strava time….)

I’ll try and get out on your rides in a few weeks.

Doing San Marino next Monday afternoon and then off to Gisburn forest the following Monday.
    will be free after that

    Yep, TFtuned says 429.

I’ve ordered a 425 spring and am tempted to grab the 500 too. Test both then sell the unwanted one.

Slightly off topic, but you’re all local.

Anyone know any Karate schools in Bolton area that have had kit nicked?

I was up at San Marino last night and found a load of brand new Karate belts behind the wall at the bottom. I forgot to grab them when I left so they might still be there.

if anyone wants to do a good deed, I can point you to where they are.

    thanks for the info.

One spring I’ve seen is 450 x 2.75 (which is the correct stroke length).

There’s another that’s 500 x 2.75 but I keep reading that a N’proof Ti spring should be 50gs lighter than what’s on already. I’ve currently got a 500lbs spring on my Fox Shock (that’s being replaced with the Vivid)

I bought some of the Oakley ones but find them a bit poo. Gets far too sweaty and steamed up.

Plus when you forget to put them on straight away in the rain, you have water drops on your glasses and then on the inside of your goggles too.

ah b*gger! I noticed Cycles surgery when sat in solid traffic on the parkway, on my commute out of town back through leafy cheshire suburb, and have read in the Times Sunday supplement that cycling is quite the thing nowadays

    but in my Skoda 🙂
