the amount of people who are commenting on this thread that they take their helmet off for road climbs but wear it for singletrack baffles me, the road is extremely dangerous, cars with stupid drivers come from no-where, its just you and the trail on a track, especially a trail centre

nickc = "Was in Brechfa a couple of weekends ago saw a chap on the Black without a helmet, and later on a couple of girls on the red, neither had helmets, and the following day a chap climbing Whites without one either."

    ALL THE GEAR-NO IDEA

why not shop around on the internet for helmets instead of actually riding your bike?

ive seen some (plural) nasty head/neck injuries by my (good, sensible) friends while drunk but i bet none of you would consider wearing a helmet in a pub?!?!. . . . life is a ride , and you only get one go around so stop stressing and only use 'protection' if you think the false confidence will make you ride harder.
you cant live in a cotton wool world, if a bus doesn't get get you cancer might so live free and enjoy life while you can. if the wind in your hair makes you feel good then just ride. ..
helmets offer no protection to your spine! can you imagine what it would feel like to have your head intact but no use of your body? my mate is in this situation and he says live every minute with the wind in your hair!!!

i didnt mean my comments to be negative – i was simply thinking that although there are some very good state schools, and the level of education can be as good or better there are extra 'bonus' reasons for sending your kids to private school

    What's wrong with aspartame?

its one of just a few chemicals that can cross the blood-brain barrier without your body changing its composition
it breaks down at 30C into formaldehyde – NICE
    it causes Alzheimer's
    it causes cancer
it causes hypersensitivity – allergy increases/lupus
it causes legions of the brain
ITS ONLY BENEFIT IS ITS CHEAPER TO PRODUCE THEN SUGAR
    . . . .PRO'S AND CON'S ? . . . think ill stick to sugar

sorry for the rant but this is a pet hate of mine

been thinking about this thread while out and about today and i think that in this world where who you know is just as important as what you know – i can see a great benefit from private schools. . . my dad was happy to give my mates summer jobs working on his building sites . . . but what if id been in school with Bernie Eccleston's kids? fancy a summer job in F1 anyone?. . . but seriously extrapolate that into real job-searches and the benefit of your schoolmates parents being 'high flyers' is obvious.

I think it very much depends on which school, not state/private, my mum got me into a comp that wasn't fed from my primary school which was very good (the local one was the chair throwing kind mentioned above). i left with 11 gcse's while friends of mine who went to the 'rougher' school failed entirely despite being as intelligent/motivated. there is a private school locally where one of my friends went and he is now an estate agent – cant say that was worth the money! It would be easy to say that was me, not the school but i insisted on leaving to do my a' levels elsewhere and failed completely at college

their lock-on grips are real nice too especially for a tenner in lovely anodised red. in fact, everything ive had from this company has been spot on and they dont bat an eyelid when idiots like me order the wrong bits they just quickly and efficiently change them without extra postage. . . . sounds like i work for them reading this back but i do like to recommend when i get good service

if its just a deterrent and no one knows where it is except the captain, why not just pretend to have them and save a few billion quid?

bunny-hopping isnt essential but un-weighting the bike is. I saw a great tutorial by Hans Ray on an old video, he says to stand over your bike (on the floor) and with no brakes use your back foot on the pedal to lift the rear end of the bike up – you can then feel the muscles needed to un-weight the rear end of the bike. helped me learn to hop back in the day.
