I have an Aldi one picked up in the last cycling sale. Pretty good bit of kit for £6.

If you are looking at the VRS diesel, I have the Golf GTD hatch with essentially the same engine. Real world mpg over the 22k miles and 9 months I’ve had it is circa 46mpg so similar , to the Focus ST(D.) I don’t drive particularly sedately.
Great car but mpg nowhere near what I got from my 320d which averaged mid fifties.

My daughter is 10 and 5ft 1. She has outgrown her trek mt220 24 and moved up to her sisters S 26″ Schwinn. An XS 26 would be better but she doesn’t ride that much to justify getting one and she is undergoing a bit of a growth spurt so would soon outgrow it.

I’m currently looking for a trail helmet and have seen the 7 IDP M4 for £37.50 on CRC.

    Any good?

I cracked a roofbox by driving under a height restriction…..
It was a borrowed box too!

Bought a new one to replace it for the owner but did a perfectly good repair with sikaflex on the cracked one which lasted perfectly well but wasn’t pretty and kept it.

My 5 years old Samsun recently lost some of its smart functionality with loss of support to you tube and now iPlayer.
Bought a Chromecast. Brilliant bit of kit.

I have a company car that covers 25k a year. I’m time poor but do like a clean car, especially as my car is a dark midnight blue so is much the same as a black car for keeping clean.
After trying Meguiars, autoglym,Purple haze, etc I have now settled on sonax products. I use sonax protect and shine once or twice a year then use a quick spritz of sonax xtreme detailer after each wash.
Beads water beautifully and stays much cleaner between washes.
A preclean with the pressure washer and a snow foam , normally gets the car 90% clean then a shampoo wash with a mitt and few squirts of sonax before it dries, makes it an easy wash routine.
Probably not as nice a finish as purple haze but when the car is driven 2500 miles a month I trade a little of ultimate finish for durability and ease of use.

I’m now 14 1/2 stone but was 16 1/2 until this year. I’ve been using the same pair of Mavic Ksyrium wheels for about 4 years and they have remained true despite hitting potholes and suffering from pinch flats.

    What functions does she require?
I recently bought a Tom Tom Spark via the official website for £60. Records all my runs and cycle rides, can be used in the pool, measures daily activity, calories and gives running pace, splits, etc.
Do you need any more than that?

My daughter has just outgrown her 24″ Trek mt220. She loved riding that bike, the main virtues being fit and light weight.

Discs aren’t critical on a 24″ bike, well set up v brakes work fine for a kid.

I’m a scout leader and have been for 6 years. Started off when my son joined cubs, and now have both daughters in Scouts.

Fortunately we have 5 leaders so that distributes the workload quite a bit with each of us taking the lead on different nights. Without them i wouldn’t be able to find the time to commit to the organisation and preparing but it is immensely rewarding.

I started wearing one just recently. They work really well.
I went for a mesh base from Decathlon which was a tenner and will be buying more

I previously worked for both render and rainscreen cladding manufacturers.

It would be standard practice on a tower block to use a non combustible insulation such as rockwool to create a firebreak at every storey beyond the second d storey.

Whilst EPS doesn’t necessarily burn it will disappear in a fire leaving a huge vertical chimney stack behind the cladding.

    Look up Lakanal house fire…….

Test driven one. Nice car, drives well but interior is a bit low rent compared to a golf. Now have a Golf GTD.

I currently have 10 speed 105 , 12_25 with a 50/34 compact on my Defy. That works pretty well in Hertfordshire where there are few long gradients.
    I’m 15 stone too.

I sometimes hanker for a slightly higher top for downhill and a very occasionally a lower low gear but think I’d find the bigger gaps annoying. If I was to upgrade to 11 speed I’d probably go 11_28.

Strange to think that only a few years ago I’d ride everything with a 53/39 and 12/25 and manage.

After years of using Bell or Giro i recently picked up a new Lazer Blade for £33 on eBay( reduced due to it being a dull Titanium colour rather than the more trendy white or flourish colours currently favoured.). Much more sophisticated retention and adjustment system and consequently a much better fit. Definitely reccomended.

I had a deeply unfashionable Raleigh Jeep when all the cool kids were on their Grifters.
My first racer was a circa 1982 Carlton Criterium in a fetching light green metallic. OK didn’t have Raleigh branding but technically a Raleigh by then.

Regarding buying private, having been looking at a car for my girlfriend the last few weeks there doesn’t appear to be nearly as many private sales as there used to be. Your choice might be limited , more so as with more expensive cars

I’m 2 months sand 5000 miles into ” ownership” of a Golf GTD which is a company car.

It’s such a well developed car ,a great blend of useful size, efficiency, comfort and performance I can’t think of much to better it for the money.

Prior to this I’ve had various Focii, Insignias, a Merc A class and a 320d. I actually prefer it to the 320d which is quite something because that was a great al rounder too.

In the early nineties I was passed by one of these. sounds absolutely feral but under that exhaust note you can still detect the cultured note of the v12. https://youtu.be/kEYKt0EmvnE

Normally Dad or Daddy, but middle daughter has taken to calling me “Father” in a jokey kind of way to which I respond, “Yes dearest daughter.”
If in the presence of my girlfriends kids who call me by my first name, they sometimes follow suit and call me “Pete”.

When I split from my ex, I didn’t have to pay my ex spousal maintenance because her earnings were on parity with mine once my outgoings and maintenance for the kids was paid. I did however sign over the greater percentage of a decent house. Fortunately I didn’t have to sign over my pension.
Every case is different, but i strongly reccomend the excellent wikivorce site which was invaluable to me when I went through this.
