Been using Schwalbe Nobby Nics on soft snow and compacted snow and they`ve worked fine.

Anything with a fairly open tread pattern should be fine.

Often worth looking out for little used XT outers on the classifieds,as lots of folk tend to have redundant ones when they switch to a bash.Picked mine up for about £20.
Other option is to buy a complete SLX chainset, for £90 and sell your old XT cranks.
Then you get 2 spare rings and a bb too!

I recently converted my 85mm travel Rebas to 100mm by removing one of the internal spacers.I was sceptical that I would notice any difference, but my bike felt noticeably more confidence inspiring on the downhill sections without sacrifing too much of its quick steering.

As said above might not be worth spending £400-500 in isolation but might be worth it if you can benefit from improved damping at the same time or if your current forks are past their best.

I am 6ft with a 42 chest and large is perfect.Slimmish fit, with decent length arms but not so tight that you can`t get a base layer and a jersey comfortably underneath.

Great performing jacket.Only crritiscm is the lack of a rear pocket but other than that, perfect.

Have a look at the video tuturials for remova of lowers and air spring service on the tech section of the Rockshox website, then refer to the Reba manual.

    I did mine recently.In essence:

    1) Remove forks from bike
    2) Release air in positive and negative chamber
    3) Remove lowers
    4) Remove air spring and remove 1 spacer from air spring shaft.
    5)Replace oil and reassemble.

Taking care and following the instructions it took me approx 1-1 1/2 hours.Could probably do it in half that time, now

If you are mechanically mided and take your time,it is surprisingly easy.

You will need some 5 and 15wt fork oil,(get it from crc)a selection of sockets,eg 10,15,24mm ,a syringe to put the fluid in,circlip pliers, and a large rubber faced mallet.

Assisted by car or not Button still had to finish, and beat his team mate. And in the latter part of the season Red Bull had consistently the better car……

Reckon he deserves it for sticking with the underperforming Honda and BAR for all the seasons before.

Carefully lever them apart.Bit of tape round the end of a screwdriver, push the pistons back.Once the wheel is in,you will need to pump the brake lever for a bit to reset the pads.

Next time don`t touch the lver while the pads are out or stick a spacer, between the pistons!!

XT is 260-280g depending on if its 11-32 or 11-34.Best part of 150g lighter than my old PG950.Preety cheap way of saving weight I`d say, given thye have never cost me more than £42.

Have a look on Pauls cycles website for deals on complete Giant Trances. For example you could buy a Trance X5 for £850.
If you want just the frame sell the excess bits here on the classifieds.
Good way of getting a new frame, with added peace of mind for not much more than you`d pay for a secondhand one.

Started out as an XTC SX,bought for £500,sold all the original parts for £350,so frame was £150,XT groupset was free (won as part of a prize for filling in an WMB reader survey),Reba forks were £150 off the classifieds,XT/717wheels were £70 off the classifieds,RF bars and stem were £50 (new off CRC),Gobi was (£50 Cycle surgery bargain),Thomson post was £30,Nics were £40(ebay).
    So total cost £550.

True I wish my road tyres were as easy,as my mtb tyres.
First time I tried changing the tyres on my road bike,I pinched the tube and was left with my ears ringing as the tube exploded as it reached 90psi………..

    JollyGreenGiant
    Free Member

Have you put a bit of air in the tube first?
A bit of soapy water to act as a lube round the tyre bead can help too.
Once the bead is on,add a bit more air and work round the bead with your thumbs to check its seated right and the tube is not pinched, add a bit more air,and so on.

As found above,I find them bulky which restricts circulation and leads to cold feet.By comparsion I often use a pair of Helly Hansen merino socks and my feet stay warmer.
My preferred winter foot ensemble is now merino wool scoks plus Endura MT500 overshoes.
