I ran an F30 320ED for 35,000 miles and regularly acchied over 60mpg, average was 58mpg and worst I ever achieved eas 50mpg.

This was mpg calculated by fuel in and the odometer too.Typically this was on the region of 10% less than the computer.

I now have a Merc A200 CDI and that averages 52 mpg under the same driving conditions and is less powerful too.

I was always impressed by the economy ,more so that it never felt short changed for power.

Previous experience has taught me that me that you get what you pay for with sofas.
Multiyork are expensive but last well and they will sell you new covers when the originals wear out.

I also have a Laura Ashley sofa that I bought from a BHF shop for £180 and that’s been great too.

    Have you tried purple parking?
Another alternative would be to park at airparks near Luton and then get on the train from Luton airport Parkway.30 minutes to kings cross.

Another recommendation for a Focus mk 1 1.8tdci. The gf has one with 160k miles on it.Its suffering from rust a bit now but has been great.Generally reliable and cheap to fix, when its needed a wheel bearing or brakes.

Some insulation types are more breathable than others. Always get a condensation risk analysis done. Generally rockwool or similar is more breathable than EPS and whilst most of the acrylic renders and finishes are only 6mm there are lime based renders available if breathability is s concern. Having said that EPS is generally used and works if correctly specified.
The main concern is finding a good installer and attention to good detailing is fundamental. A mineral based system with a dash finish is generally more robust than the thin acrylic types.

A couple of my kids have had Trek MT 220s. Good bikes and with adjustable stem and two pedal positions on the cranks they are assured a good fit.

Focus is a good shout.watch out for rust on the sills and rear arches though.Similar age Astras seem to last well too and are cheap to fix.Not as nice to drive as the Focus but seem to be less affected by rust.

As mentioned the dew point is now on tbe outside so no interstitial condensation and eliminates cold bridging.
Unfortunately the advent of eco funding whilst commedable in reducing hesting bills has also bought a lot of installers into a competitive market and corners have been cut.
Make sure you use a reputable installer.
Whilst not as thermally efficient mineral wool is still the most stable insulation type for rendering, allows walls to breathe snd is non combustible. There have been issues with higher performance insulation boards based on phenolic or PIR due to shrinkage
Grey EPS is a good compromise between price and performance and is generally reliable.
Anything else hou need to know just ask.

As a kid growing up I lived in a leafy affluent suburb of NW London inhabited by a few famous folk.My paper round included the home if Ronnie Barker, who I did get to speak to.
I also had a chat with Frank Bruno a couple of years ago when he started a 10k I was taking part in.

Agree about poor visibility with the Insignia.Economy wasn’t great either. The 2.0 cdti 160 I had gave 45mpg averages compared to 60 that I get from the 3 series I have now.
Never had a problem with comfort though.

Had an Insignia as a company car and had an Astra on extended hire.
I preferred thd Astra to drive and it was decently roomy, but the Insignia boot is vast if that’s important to you.

Before buying a cheap frame and transferring existing kit Look at the deals at Pauls cycles on Giant Defys and Cannondale Synapses.

I had a 531 frame with a 126 spacing and it would take a 130 though a wheel change could be a bit of a faff.

Just bought an immaculate Trek mt220 for my partners boy for £75 via ebay.
It’ll probably still be worth most of that when we sell it on too.
Nice bikes, reasonably light and with Treks dialled fit which includes adjustable stem and cranks.

Been looking at Octavias.A VRS diesel would be very tempting nut seem rare and slightly over budget for the age I want.
    Did see a nice L & K edition though……..

Yes the idea will be to buy a 1-2 year old then keep it for a year or so.
Hebden cyclist what mpg do you get from the 2.2?
Liking the c 220d estate suggestion but not sure it will be within budget seeing as similar spec and vintage 3 series touring are at least 15k but will research.I looked at Octavias but they seem pricey and mainly 1.6s at this age.

I must admit it is hard to look beyond the mondeo.Loads of space, good engines, decent to drive and seems to have a good reliability record.
I like the Focus having had a mk 1 and mk2 but they were petrol and the treports of dpf issues on the diesel are putting me off.I have read that the mk 3 uses a different type of dpf but not sure on this.
Of course some of these aresues apply to VW as well.
If I went for the Leon or Focus I reasoned that I might be able to get a newercar on which these issues wouldnt be so likely to concern.

    Useful feedback discoduck.

Next question do I buy one with low miles that I can add 25k miles to in a year that might still fetch a reasonable price when I sell it or buy one with high miles cheaper but sell it as a very high mileage car in a year’s time.
Just thinking a low mileage diesel may be more likely to have done short journeys but then I have heard of dpf replacement at 75000 miles or less on some cars.

Is it just Ford that use the problematic EOLYS dpf?

    Thanks Dunc.
I should say whilst I’ve looked at PCP deals I’m currently looking at buying 2nd hand at circa 10k, which sadly rules out a less than 4 year old 320d.
I had considered the mondeo, just not sure I need a car that vast but it is certainly one to think about.
Was thinking Mk 2 Leon 1.6cr se approx 2-3 years old.
What are these like for reliability?

Pre F30 3 series were a bit tight in the back.
F30 3series is big enough to make a 5 series redundant!

Company car means peace of mind with no unexpected costs and no worries about depreciation, loans or being tied into a finance deal.An allowance gives more flexibility on car choice but needs to be generous to beat peace of mind.£150 isn’t going to go far if you still need to pay insurance and maintenance costs. Will you be able to clsim 45p a mile for business use? How many business miles will you cover?
We really need more detail about the car choice though to give meaningful advice.

I had a 98 mk 1 as a company car which racked up 80k miles in 2 years, then did 35k in my mk2 and both were great to drive and very reliable. My girlfriends 2002 mk1is on nearly 160k miles but I think rust might catch up with it on the next mot.She bought it for 2k about 6 years ago and it hasn’t had anything more than brake pads, tyres and servicing.

I’ve had mpvs before.I loved the practicality and versatility, but it wasn’t often it actually got driven loaded with all the kids and loaded to the brim,so most of the time you pay the penalty of driving a car that is less economical and not as nice to drive as a regular family hatch.
I have 3 kids and until recently managed fine with a mk 2 Focus which had a decent size boot and plenty of interior space.
I now have a BMW 320d f30 company car which is a nice drive, gives 60mpg but you’d need the touring and would be over budget.
At this price you could get a low mileage relatively recent Mondeo with a high spec.Hard to beat for vfm and great to drive.
The Passat does look good, lovely interior and looks classier but having driven many mondeos and a passat extensively preferred the mondeo.

I didn’t use an online service but use use of wikivorce,a local solicitor for the financial consent order and filing of the petition by me kept ccoststo a minimum.
Mine was a similar situation to yours, where we had been separated and living apart for more than 2 years and we had already sorted our finances ourselves. All in mine cost £600.

Standard steerer and head tube upto 2010.2011-2013 tapered, 2013 and on overdrive 2.
Would have thought you just need a reducer to suit.
