The front will stick, the rear will leap off the line immediately 🤣

I’d say it’s very hard to generalise as there are so many variables, but 29ers will tend to be a bit better at ploughing through really rough stuff, and 27.5ers will be a touch more playful / fun if you’re a more active (body position wise) rider and/or on less severe trails.
But there are plenty of exceptions to this made up ‘rule’!

And of course there’s mullet options now (I’m confused why it’s called a mullet though, with the bigger wheel out front, surely it would be some kind of big fringed hair cut!)

If it feels good, ride it!

Bit of an old thread, but just wanted to add something on sizing…
I’m 6ft and by all ‘on paper’ comparisons an XL slash 29er should be too big, but I tried one at the weekend and it fit really well. Proves it’s always sensible to try before you buy! Bike geometry and measurements are complex and often the numbers don’t tell the reality. BTW I ride a large SC 5010 usually, which is usually considered to be a med-large as SC’s come up a bit small.

For me I’d be looking at a Banshee spitfire, cotic flare or a santa Cruz 5010c… They all probably stretch the budget a bit though. The Whyte 130 seems to be a great bike and good price but doesn’t quite turn me on as much as these three. Happy Christmas all, and happy riding!

Excuse my ignorance, but where abouts is redlands?
Ride from peaslake regularly but not the most knowledgeable about all the names, unfortunately far more knowledgeable about the names of the strave segments – sad but true :-)
