Avid juicys never worked well for me. Always suffered with sticky pistons and as a consequence dragging pads. Tool free change always required a flat bladed screw driver to push the pistons in even after squeezing out excess fluid. Got old style circa 2007 xt on the other bike that have always worked perfectly. I figure that the new Deore 596 will be a similar animal and work just as well as the 5 year old xt’ s.
The bike is still on the workstand so haven’t tried them except on there.

Just replaced my juicy 5’s with some new Deore M596’s and used the original avid adapters and they fit perfectly. As all the mounts do is convert one standard mount to another this should always be the case.

Yup – the Chase is very waterlogged at the moment – any cheeky stuff is getting totally shreaded up.
FYD & Monkey is 14 miles of greasy mud and puddles.
I shall be sticking to the fireroads and bridleways until after we get a few days of dry weather.

5 feet 9 inches, 30 inside leg riding a 54″ 2010 CAAD 8. It seems almost right if snything very slightly large possibly because thenot far off horizontal top tube. I reckon a 54″ would be perfect for you. I only just get about an inch clear standover – not the most important criteria (reach tending to be more important).
I’d guess that a 56 would seem like a gate when you consider the top tube angle as well.

Yep. I have an 07 MV and using a 591 it clamps very securely to the bit of downtube above the bb but below the lowest pivot – it’s a small triangular gap which is good cos it means the clamp cannot slide up the tube either. I also have tried to pull the clamp out and it is very secure.

Yep – Hayfield to Edale. Unless you are a riding god doing Jacobs as a climb from Edale is a hikeabike. The climb up from Hayfield is OK for most riders with Jacobs as a descent to follow.

Another vote for Dennys, always good – also try Buffalo Wings – they’re done in a bit of a sports bar theme, great atmosphere without the hooligan element and very family friendly. Also go to the largest Macdonalds in the world on International Drive over towards the Water Park – food off a proper menu made to order – again, a great family atmosphere.

It changes quite a lot – after being built it was quite steep but Ok, then the bottom got hollowed out making it worse, then someone put some rocks in to give you a bit of a lead out but now I understand it’s getting eroded again and exposing more roots. Same thing applies tho, ride it with confidence, approach slowly, weight well back and don’t brake till you’re through.
Also, ignore and ride through the mincer bottleneck and ambulance chasers with cameras.

Thanks guys – I was on the verge of ordering a 561 cos I was convinced that my 591 wouldnt fit my mount vision even tho I’d tried several times and Deluded is dead right – the clamp fits really securely in that small gap behind the chainring and clamps up really tightly. Also because the gap is quite small theres no possibility of the clamp moving up or down the frame. Well chuffed and saved £90!

My 07 Mount Vision had exactly the same – bounced it, no noise. Pedal it and it creaked, worse on uphills. Done all the usual, dropouts, seatpost, chainrings, crank arm – made no difference. Found it to be the upper shock link pivot pin nut. I put the socket on it to check tightness and it made the same creak that I heard whilst riding it. The nut was dry with a small amount of white oxidisation over it. Stripped all of the pivots, cleaned them then reassembled them all with just a very small amount of grease. No more creaky pivots. Mind you last week – noisy as hell again but that was due to a loosened cassette lockring. Pivots have been silent for months.

The declaring neighbour disputes when you move was one I thought I would have issues with but when you read the actual legal documents the wording read are there any neighbour disputes affecting access or boundaries – to which i replied none – we just hated each other – nowt to do with fences or access.

You could always look around the Kingstanding/Great Barr/Streetly area – you’re the Uni end of town. Sutton Park is close by and good for a couple of hours of singletrack, Cannock is 30 minutes away and the Uni is within biking distance. Sutton is very pricey property wise, Streetly is nice also but slightly cheaper than Sutton, but things get more affordable nearer the Kingstanding area – but like anywhere there are some places there you’re best avoiding.

Yep – completed 3 months ago. Used Nationwide and managed to get a good rate fixed for 5 years. The loan to value rate was good for us because we’d been in a previous property for 18 years and carried a decent deposit to put down – this helped us get the better mortgage rate with the lender.

Be very careful riding anything other than a fully rigid big wheeled Ti bike with daft bars – the brummie will find ya and convert ya!!

Honestly tho – more to do with tyre choice – any bike will do. Cannock is dusty dry at the moment.

LOL. Anyway, after over 3 hours of riding Cannock Chase singletrack the Singlespeeding Attention Whores arrived back at the Cafe with hardly a speck of mud on them.

It is clearly against the law – it says so in the Highway Code. However, laws are applied and inforced with a certain amount of guidance and common sense.

On 1st August 1999, new legislation came into force to allow a fixed penalty notice to be served on anyone who is guilty of cycling on a footway. However the Home Office issued guidance on how the new legislation should be applied, indicating that they should only be used where a cyclist is riding in a manner that may endanger others. At the time Home Office Minister Paul Boateng issued a letter stating that:

“The introduction of the fixed penalty is not aimed at responsible cyclists who sometimes feel obliged to use the pavement out of fear of traffic and who show consideration to other pavement users when doing so. Chief police officers, who are responsible for enforcement, acknowledge that many cyclists, particularly children and young people, are afraid to cycle on the road, sensitivity and careful use of police discretion is required.”

Bonty Mud x‘s – I use no other tyre and ride there at least a couple of times a week. They grip like shit to a blanket in the mud and are very light and fast rolling. Had a fair bit of wind over the Chase over the last couple of days and is drying up a bit, forecast dry tomorrow and wet sunday.

Trails were funded by the forestry, Sport England and aided by Chasetrails and lots of volunteer Trail Pixies. There may have been some funding by Giant as well but not too sure. ST off here was involved from the start of the official trail building until very recently, he would have the full story, facts & figures etc etc.

Got an On-one. Cheap and cheerful, ideal for the Cannock Chase especially in the winter. I’m also a tight wad who got fed up of chainsuck and mashing the drivetrain on my other bike every 3 months. Wet and sandy cannuk mud is very abrasive.

With mine it was creaking pivot nuts. Took the dust covers off each pivot, removed the nuts, smeared the grease, refitted the nuts, more grease then stuck the dust covers back on. Quiet as a quiet thing now.

This is obviously a troll post, if it isn't I'll assume the OP is extremely naive. There's a guy that regularly rides with us who has just reached 60, he's ridden off road for over 20 years, regularly rides the local trails over Cannock Chase as well as the trail centres. He is definately no slouch and has occasionally been witnessed with both wheels off the ground – in a controlled and skilled manner I add!
    That legend is Dogears!!

Try The Comfort Inn on West 35th Street. Nice rooms, nice staff and reasonable prices. Stayed there last May. Rates around $270.
