Thanks guys for the comeback –

would be for proper CX, race day only & rims are 50mm tubulars – been using them for the last couple of years and braking surface a bit bowed, hence why I’d like to see if I can put them on a disc build first as no real value in selling them

at 64kg, possibly not as fleet of foot as I used to be but don’t to be too hard on equipment, so happy to give it a go

    build would be 20/24 (12 x 142 thru rear)

was hoping that Novatec or Bitex might have an option but can’t seem to find any, so will give Goldtec a buzz and see

^^^ this – prototypes seemed to have the 700c wheels but this 650 just means more wheels, more tyres etc – I know they have their theories behind it but think they’ve missed a trick

apart from that…what’s not to like !

and if you’re below the 10st mark, then put on another 2 stone- it’ll help you ride in a straight line….ish :)

I think Cookson has got it spot on with this – after the ‘warning’ issued in December, and the criticism he received (Brailsford in particular), he came out and said he had to follow the due process – seems like his approach has been thorough and diligent – so hats off to him!

he also said this last week – so guessing there’s more to come

    will do, Mark

    – we fitted them about 3 weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to get out

    – we had a small issue with my adaptor as the screw at the back of the caliper was catching the rear stay (Rose CX) but we changed to another adaptor from a mate’s bike and it worked fine (and when we put the one we’d taken off mine and fitted it to his, that worked fine too – so go figure)

looking forward to trying them out too

    Hi Al,

makes sense but unfortunately my rims are already here so have to stick with what I got – I was looking for some DA or Ultegra 24 hole hubs but can’t find any in that count

So for a lightish but strong build for me (weight 10st) – in and around the 1400g mark 20/24 : –

LB 35U clincher rims (approx 420g ea)
    Goldtec front hub – 90g
    BHS rear – 210g

    Sapim Lasers – 44 No. – approx 190g
    Brass nipples – 44 No. – 44g

    Skewers – say – 100g

    so approx 1474g

    look ok ?

Plus one – that’s close to what I’m doing

LB 35mm clincher rim with Goldtec front hub that I had in the spare box & the BHS rear

@Munkster – what would be your spoke recommendation? for a 20/24 build if I was looking to get them in and around the 1400g mark ?

Cannondale Taurine (Team colours of the day – white / black / orange) with matching mango CK Iso hubs on Olympic rims and Magura forks – 6 years old and still brings a big smile to my face every time I take it out – brilliant bike!

Stybar is just such a class act – his approach ton racing is just go go go – last years worlds was one of the best races I think I’ve ever watched – the number of attacks he put in was phenomenal – true Styby Style!

Agree about PFP – current XC, CX and Road World Champ – up there with Vos’ year when she was CX, Track (points race at Manchester) and Road World Champ – awesome diversity!

And the junior men’s winner is also current XC junior World Champ

    The future is bright!

if tomorrow is as good as both the women’s and junior races today, then we’re in for a treat – can not wait!!

Did the VC Roubaix version in 2010 – fantastic, think it was the best event ride I’ve ever done – started off beautiful weather, then the rains came – vividly remember standing in the old mine offices at Arenberg shaking like a leaf and getting colder by the minute – we made 3 attempts to leave but the rain was so heavy it was bouncing off the road – all feeling had gone in my fingers and toes by the this stage so we had to leave and then, lo and behold, about 300m later, we hit the Arenberg Tranche – 2.5 km of riding a pneumatic drill and spat out the other end to glorious sunshine.

It was a mixture of sunshine and showers from there to the end. Riding the cobbles in the dry was an experience but in the wet, it was another world altogether – huge respect to the pros who actually race on them and then top that by managing to do an average of 25 mph – beyond me but good to get some sort of idea of what they can face.

The 2 of us opted for the full 160 mile course and we both rode our ‘cross bikes with 32mm tyres.

So many highlights but definitely up there were the random spectators that you would come across – standing in a field or edge of a cobble section, in 1 and 2s – seemingly in the middle of nowhere – yet there they were cheering you on – just brilliant!

In fact, it was so good that both of us are going back next year to have another go.

And can you buy the shoes seperately?

Or do you just buy a set of these and change the pads over

Yeah, great bit of kit – can get a bit hot racing in slightly milder conditions but water resistance super in the wet. Sizing needs to be fitted to get most benefit though.

Cannondale synapse hi-mod ? Only slightly longer wheelbase than S6 but shorter than Domane – and the go to bike for cannondale riders in the classics where road conditions probably not that much different from ours. Higher HT allows you to be on the drops longer and more often. Well capable for racing and also super comfortable for longer days too. Think Paul’s Cycles may have a SRAM red for £2k which is great value.

What about Velocity A23 or H-plus+sons rims ? – both have the wide internal rims – I’ve been seriously impressed by them – rims come in around 425-450g/rim for £45-55; built onto Ultegra or equivalent hubs – great wheelsets and can be built for around £250-350 (see JoeH at VeloCafeMagasin) –

the H+ come in 3 finishes – the best looking imho is the all black – it has an anodized black braking surface which does wear but you can prolong the ‘blackness’ if you use Swissstop Green or Yellow brakepads

Cycled in, drank coffee while it was being printed, picked up copies, checked, re-checked, walked over to Registry dressed as a spandex man…they were shut for staff training and I’ve an 8am ferry to Wales tomorrow…hmmm

Jeez Greg, hope you had the spell checker up and running – above now fixed too, so you are now good to go :)

No Nationals next year then? Been missing those smiley legs this season

Good luck with the thesis and compliments of the season to you and yours!
