    Ah, Cougar – that’s part of the reason for asking – I know you could spend a fortune if you wanted but if the telly was about 600, would around £200 for the soundbar sound reasonable ?

    Another for Sorpasso’s

    But also have a pair of DHB and they’re great in very cold weather – but I’d size down one as found them a bit big

    These are fleece lined – use them with some fingerless gloves to get the extra protective palm padding

    What are everyone’s thoughts on going for deep rims?

    Yes, work for mud too……and they give that bling factor, which can never be underestimated :)

    I use these hubs on 3 sets of cross wheels I’ve got and they’ve been great so far

    https://www.edgesportsuk.com/store/edge-design.html?cat=33

    I got them built onto some PX R32 carbon rims when the braking surface was wearing down,- 3 years and still going strong

    and if you don’t want tubs, then maybe build onto Pacenti 25 or H+ rims, and go tubeless ?

    @ap & breatheasy – I’ll have a look at that option too

    @aP
    – Me and a few mates went bikepacking in Tuscany in May and did the L’Eroica route while we were there (3700m climbing in 130 miles) – all told it was 450 miles and gearing was 50:34 – 11:32 and that worked perfectly

    Agree that triples are great when it comes to touring – just not cheap if you have to change most of the gearing

    @Boblo
    – will have a look for those – thanks.

    So, if I’m reading this right, then it looks like the SuperX set up will be fine but the only options for the Canyon are to:-

    a. replace the outer ring to a 46

    or

    b. get a long cage rear mech

    Jonny,

    so for the Canyon, would your feeling be that if you avoided using the 34×11, then it should be ok ?

    what if I got an 11-34 cassette – would slackness still be an issue ?

    Many thanks for replies

    Bit more info about the bikes

    Both 11 speed

    Bikepacker is a Cannondale SuperX with 650b wheels – (46/36 rings) – so could change inner ring to 34 easily enough

    Partners tourer is a Canyon Roadlite with 700c wheels – (50/34 rings) – would like to keep this as is if possible

    Why can citizens of the uk that were  born in NI apply for an Eire passport but citizens born elsewhere in the uk can’t?

    I thought that we were all equal.

    One of the elements of the Good Friday agreement

    Prior to that, we could always get an Irish passport and (supposedly) not have a British one – but now we can have dual

    The Circuit of Ireland did a special stage through Tollymore Forest in Newcastle many years ago – and have great memories of a Stratos coming through the trees on 3 wheels, with the co-driver lying across the bonnet pulling up on the wheel-less arch – phenomenal sight !

    Not 100% on this but AFAIK, if someone runs into the back of you, then the fact that your lights are ‘obscured’ may work against you – so think you’d be liable and both bikes wrecked ?

    and taking into consideration that the CAAD10 frameset looks so much better than any of the 12 variations, seems like an obvious decision – think that’s my mind made up anyway

    thanks for the input !

    More than likely – but, as Cannondale like to reduce everything in September, we’re looking at the CAAD12 105 coming down in price to around the 1200 mark ?

    CAAD10 frame, wheels, & Ultegra hydraulics would be about 1K – so just add rest of groupset & reasonably good finishing kit say 300 – 350 ? (although could be done way cheaper 2nd hand) – leaves a total 1300 to 1350 for Ultegra standard ?

    The Ultegra CAAD12 is currently £2k – discount in Sept say £400 – so an extra £250 to £300 over the CAAD10 ?

    so really looks like it comes down to Al’s question – is it worth the waiting to save 250 – 300 quid ?

    Cheers – will check that out

    lol – can’t do it NOW as the 12s won’t be coming down in price until at least September…and then prob from £1500 to £1200 ish ?

    Agree about the CAAD10 being a great frame – I had one built up with 105 and it was great – was definitely a lot less p’precious’ about it than the carbon bikes but I sold the frameset, so have the bits left over and just fancied a disc ‘race’ geo bike for a change

    By slightly more lush, what do you mean – a bit comfier or just a bit blingier ?

    Weight wouldn’t be my primary consideration but I think the 200gm C/dale talk about is based on their integrated system ie the seatpost, collar, headset & hi-mod fork but would only apply to the Dura ace build and above – think the rest have a standard mod fork so weight saving closer to 120g

    Wheels I was considering were the Hunt Masons so probably 200g less than the Maddux ones

    Add to that the Ultegra v 105 hydraulics and I think the weight of the CAAD10 all in would come in less than the CAAD12 105

    @mark – I already have most of the bits and pieces, so outlays for me are the frame & the wheels at £719 plus BB @ £49 if I want to fit this –

    http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/1750232/products/wheels-manufacturing-pressfit-30-to-outboard-bottom-bracket—shimano.aspx?origin=pla&kwd=&currency=GBP&gclid=Cj0KEQiAl5u2BRC6yszC1_75v5wBEiQAD-hdz0GJ_CmrTN5YfLUjfzOrmSbzDRkPg3Ne6uVBW4KpNqwaApsF8P8HAQ

    (have a Praxis but it won’t fit the CAAD10 internally)

    So really, just curious if the 10 would be that much of worse / better / same-ish v the 12

    and Al, exactly – could I be arsed waiting
