Emailed SRAM just to check and unfortunately can’t be done as it’s a fixed spider – so will have to find a 1x crankset

Thanks for the replies all the same

Another yes – been using it trips around Ireland, Netherlands and Portugal – only issue has been in Portugal where it had me going down routes that local farmers had blocked off – otherwise been very very impressed.

Phew – that’s like therapy and number wasn’t as high as I thought it would be – still have some of them – some great choices, some mistakes, some keepers for sentimental reasons (cause they were and are brilliant) – thought I was sorted but there’s always something catches my eye – like, would sell the Wi.De for a new Crux…..ah, it never ends :)

And don’t start a ‘how many wheels’ thread – that’s enough therapy for a while

Saddleback emailed me to say they would have the rear axle kit in the new year.

so I’ll try MLC 135 with spacers first and go from there

    only front to go

    johnny63

PM’d you MLC – worth a try so thanks for that

    Way beyond my capabilities, Wzzz

But will contact Kayla as AVT & Saddleback don’t have the bits in stock, so worth seeing what Kayla says

The hubs are built into 26er wheels, and I just don’t see any value in selling them – they haven’t missed a beat in the 10 years I’ve had them and so I use them on a ti456 that I keep as a run round.

They’re too good for that – hence was looking to convert to thru axle and then get built up on a set of 650b rims to use on my gravel* bike.

(*god I hate using that word just to describe a variant of a ‘cross bike… grumble grumble)

Anyhow, I’ll try Kayla and Aspire too and see what they have to say.

Once again, thanks for all the help.

Cheers all – confirmed what I thought and that it’s not worth the risk….for me that is

    johnny63

PITA is that they’d thought about fork clearance- you’d get a motorcycle tyre on the front !!!

    johnny63
    Full Member

It’s a carbon frame – would have put Helitape on anyway prior to this post conversation – so just out of interest, I might try it just to see how it goes

    johnny63
    Full Member

So Scotroutes, by way of that, is the implication that as long as you’re within those limits, then your warranty wouldn’t be voided should you have any damage to the stays caused by using a tyre that allows you that clearance – unless they specifically state the max tyre width in the bike description ?

Moot point really if you’re not prepared to take the risk – but would be interested to know all the same

‘sigh’ – well, if ever I asked a question i already knew the answer to, this is a case in point – but guess I was just looking confirmation from a higher source.

And I don’t fancy the metal tape route.

    Thanks for the replies meantime.

Got a Suunto Ambit3 vertical gathering dust as I bought a Fenix 6 if of any interest ?

@geomickb – depends on conditions where you are racing – I’m in NI and after first 2 races, it’s mud tyres for the rest of the season. But you may be somewhere where the ground holds up all season.

For mud, and running tubeless, it’s hard to beat Challenge Limus or Specialized Terra Pro

But if conditions good, the as Abingham says – Grifo’s are a great all rounder, along with Schwalbe X-one All round

If running any of the above, I’d definitely be going tubeless if you can

Here’s the analysis for all the riders at each of the sections:-

    https://twitter.com/velofacts/status/1356008778181861376/photo/1

My thoughts are that Mathieu rode a pretty flawless race bar that rut incident – and think even without the puncture for Wout, would have won (I’d say karmic that one given that we were in Bieles and, watching him close up, I feel he was in another class on that course but the 5 punctures to Wout’s 1 decided that one)

Also think Mathieu learnt from the last race before World’s where he blew hhis engine trying to bridge back up to Wout after he’d punctured – whereas Wout did completely blow his engine chasing back in this race – so maybe that previous race was a bit of a short sharp reminder for MVDP.

But that was some ride from Tom Pidcock – fastest or second fastest everywhere except the beach where he lost 1.44 – so my prediction is he wins World Champs in Tabor :)

Great course where strongest riders won in each category – and the 3 memorable moments for me were:-

Fem Van Empol slowing down to check her pulse last lap – very cool at 18

Annemarie Wurst riding a blinder – great to see her back up pushing for the win

And Tom getting a quick reminder that there’s no mates in a race when he got the shoulder barge from Wout first bend Lap 1

    Looking forward to next year.

I’ll check them out – it’s an SNE245 Solar Air Diver, so repair may be as much as the watch is worth.

    Thanks for the help.

Tried that – left it in the window for a few days but no change – also wore it for a few days as well to see if that worked but again, no joy

Anyone able to help on this one – I’ve a Seiko Solar Divers 200 – hadn’t worn it in while so had the battery changed but it has just stopped working altogether – like it as a watch so want to see if there’s anything I can do to fix – any solutions ?

Speak to Dom or Cal and they’ll advise you

cheers guys – I’ll do what you suggest Jonny – seems extreme to have to pay £9 when it’s only the screw I need.

and cheers for the link, Scotroutes – pity they don’t mention the size :)

Brilliant video, Monty – obviously the TV gardening career will be taking a back seat for a while longer :)

    johnny63

    And re sizing – I’m 5’8

SuperX is a 54 and fits perfectly

Inflite is a Small – Canyon sizing recommended an XS but fit didn’t feel right for me so I changed it to a Small and find that a much better fit

    johnny63
    Full Member

Have both – use the Inflite for racing and like it a lot

Also used the SuperX for racing and again liked it a lot

But where the SuperX really shines for me is that it can treble up – great CX race bike but also a brilliant ‘gravel’ bike with scope for 700 x 40s or 650 x 42 ( might go bigger but I haven’t tried) and I’ve also used it for bike packing

Yes the dished rear wheel is a pain, especially if swooping wheels between bike, but I just got 2 sets in the end.

If I only had to have one of them, it’d be the Super X

Thanks for the help everyone – hacksawed the bolt and then drilled through the screw from the inside out – seems to have worked okay, although I’ve slightly enlarged the inner side hole but hopefully that won’t affect the split pin retaining the pads.

Anyone where you can buy split pins ?

I did buy Shimano finned pads but no pin in the pack

    johnny63

Guilty as charged Simon On the cleaning but this is the first pad replacement

So if I have to replace the Caliper, where’s good at the minute ?

What size of bit would it require ?

    johnny63

Tried larger hex and also thicker screwdriver head but as it’s not the hardest of alloys, the head is now destroyed – I’ll try drilling it and see how that goes
