    Crazy daily distances.

Read that the guy who currently holds the cycling record of 37 days…..then decided to run it and now holds the record for that too !!

I’ve a set of  RockShox SID Select RL3 Air custom Charger 3-mode damper 120mm forks, 44mm offset – 152mm steerer – that came off a Spark – I had them up for sale here a month or so ago – was looking £260 if they’d be of interest  ?

brilliant but I think we were really lucky with the weather – conditions were pretty good and rivers all crossable.

we followed Scotroutes advice and went Blair atholl to Kingcairn, Inner loop, then Kingcairn to Braemar & Braemar to Blair atholl.

beautiful route in those conditions – we all took MTBs and glad we did – as mentioned above, outer loop is okay on the gravel bike but the MTBs made everything a bit more enjoyable, especially the gravel road descents 🙂

if you’re in Aviemore for breakfast, couldn’t recommend the Coffee Pot highly enough – lovely way to start your day.

if I can work out how to post photos, I’ll get some up later

Resurrecting this thread as we’re doing it Thursday to Sunday this week – we’ll be mostly following your route, Scotroutes and forecast looking okay at the minute, but anything / place we need to look out for / avoid ?

Pirelli Cinturato  M – in 40 or 45 – expensive (unless Merlin have them on sale ) – great long lasting tyres

Doesn’t Utah have some very suspect business practices?
    They’re not all saints.

    deserves more credit ! 🙂

The Marlborough pub in Marlborough – stayed there last year when doing KAW – was great and able to leave the bike in the stores out the back

Yes – been great so far – Nino never seems to have any luck at this race, does he ?

Guy from our club was doing it but freak accident at the finish line on the 1st stage left him with a punctured lung & 2 broken ribs – really feel for him & his partner as they’d both put in a huge amount of training…gutting !

And Howard Grotts is brill :)

Yes – saw them a few times (too) many years ago – last time was in Phoenix Park racecourse in Dublin and the line up that day was:-

Steel Pulse, Eurythmics, Big Country, Simple Minds & U2

Stuart Adamson was another to leave us too soon.

Scotroutes – I don’t suppose by any chance you’d have a GPX of the (your) route ?

Happy to buy you a drink in Aviemore when we’re passing as a thank you for your help :)

    You’re a star – thanks !

    Will keep you posted.

    @intheborders
    – that sounds great but I’d be worried that if I suggested that, they might go for it instead – so I’m saying nothing

Brilliant – and bikepacking, so we’ll have tents with us too.

We’ll be coming across on the ferry from Belfast – so plan is to drive to first or best accessible point, and then plan route from there – so, based on that, any suggestions on starting point ?

    I knew you’d come through Scotroutes !!

Yes double route – so all rideable ? and 60 odd mile a day not too onerous ?

i wouldn’t be so sure about that accommodation  – I did KAW last September and 6 weeks prior, there was nothing reasonable availabke at all – ended up a wild camp and a £100 night in Marlborough

Just bought a pair of MW702 in a 42 which is my normal size – very glad I didn’t size up as they are a good fit but there’s easily enough room for thicker socks too –  0 deg out tonight and toes were all good

    Sola,

Can I ask if you get much mud build up behind that rear guard or does it clear quite easily ?

    Hi Kryton,

yes, it is the RC900 team – which came with the SID Select+ RL3 100mm fork.

I do intend to keep it so based on this, think I will upgrade the fork.

    many thanks for your help.

Thanks – that’s sad to hear as they were great to deal with on a bike I bought from them.

It was just a quick query about it but I’ll try Open direct.

    Cheers for the heads up.

what a class act….. and yet another to pancreatic cancer (Terry hall & Frank McGarvey both died from it recently)

I remember him at the World Cup in the USA when he just shaved his head because it was too hot :)

    Classy tribute from Sampdoria too:-

Just Fitted a set of Cinturato M – 700 x 45 – initial impressions are that they’re great off road, especially in the mud – pretty good on gravel too and roll really well on the roads. The benefit of the extra volume from the 700 x 40 I was using during the summer is noticeable too. All in, very pleased with them.
