So is that a small frame? I’m thinking of the Titus as i know they have always done XS frames.

Any one going tomorrow? The website looks great, and the weather has inspired me for a ride of the red, with a 30K extension on the SDW, etc..?

if you’ve bought them- ride them. try to avoid drops to flat, but give t a few rides you’ll know. if they start to shift off true, maybe ebay them before the DH weekend you were planning…?

don’t know about the red metal series, but i have a set of racing 1 road wheels and they are light, stiff and have taken a load of abuse over the past three years, but are still within 1mm of true.

The hubs are Campag ones, the Fulcrum name is largely to widen the appeal of their stuff. The only problem i have found is that they have a tiny pawl spring inside the rear hub, which if not lubricated from time to time, will wear out.

Having said that, i only know this as the one in my hubs broke, but it was after 2 and a half years, and a couple of thousand miles. if you know to squirt grease in them from time to time they are fine. Besides, the replacement spring costs about £1.50 and takes about 10 minutes to fit…

Went to Molini with Molini freeride in July- I recognise a lot of those trails! -Did you end up in San Remo on the coastal day? Did that on our last day, it was deserved of the adjective “epic”.

Ironically, having started this thread, i couldn’t go in the end…! Grrr.

Hope it wasn’t too fantastic!? Actually, i hope it was, and then there will be another one, and more!

I’m in, for my first gravity enduro thingy. According to the british cycling website it’s good for a first enduro event, so it should be alright. From comments on other threads, these events have been done on everything from trail hardtails to DH bikes. Personally I’ll be on an SB66, as I have one.

The promise of beer sounds good too.

it’ll go up hill, as long as the force is with me… I will need to give that Barel chappie a bit of respite on the climbs anyway.

All sounds good. I last rode Exmoor on an early 00’s Rockhopper with V-brakes, when it was still a fairly new bike, so I don’t remember much. I know there’s endless potential for debate over “what bike”, but i’ll be on a 160-ish full suss. Overkill?

Good stuff, whereabouts are you coming down from? I’m in South Oxon, near Reading. I thought the weather looked ok? I’m planning to turn up Saturday morning, unless there’s anything on the night before?

Did you just hear that!? proper finesse with the crossfader.

proper Clarke mixing- barely more than a couple of minutes a track, yet seamless.

Went to Finale/Molini with Molini Freeride in July, I was running a 2.4 ADvantage FR (dual ply) up front and a 2.3 dual ply high roller at the back. Both good sidewalls and fairly fast rolling tread, good in the dry, as you find there! I wouldn’t worry about weight, unless you’re a real fast climber- most of the riding is uplifted, and you won’t notice the weight descending. You’ll be out most of the day riding, so it won’t be about storming up hills or along the flat…

Stick plenty of electrolyte in your pack. Have fun!

    I’m not jealous…

4 albums in total i believe, Sophware Slump and Under The Western Freeway were highlights. Saw them in the Zodiac in Oxford when Sophtware Slump came out. It was a fine, fine night. Planning to see them in london this time.

A fantastic westcoast “sleeper” rock band, i think the reunions, especially in the UK (Where they had some real early recognition) could well be a bit special.

Genius. Thoug a more direct juxtaposition of “direct trade” and “authentic” would be great.

“Ethnic forage” is a phrase i aim to use much more on a day to day basis…

Age wise- my eldest was on her Likeabike at 2, but had been on other/borrowed ones before. As far as the longevity is concerned, the Likeabike comes with two seatposts and is recommended for up to 5 years old. The little boy whose it was before was about 5 and he still used it for “jumps” alongside his pedal bike. I think his mum just wanted more space in the garage!

I’d trail ebay, or splash out on a likeabike jumper- my little girls has had one since she was two, and it’s ace- they are basically a balance bike, but have a little elastomer rear shock, and she’ll do a couple of miles on it, no problem.

I’m trying to avoid the stabiliser stage completely if she is ok with it. she’s ok so far- can coast/turn with feet off the ground etc a bit now.

-Whatever you get, a little basket on the front for teddies/flowers/toys/etc, is a great selling point! (for little girls, not their dads.. erm…)

I know Swinley pretty well, if you’d like a guide? I’ve been getting more and more into the gravity-orientated side of things recently and am always keen to meet riders with more of an interest in such things!

email is in profile, as yet i have no riding plans this weekend…? let me know if you’re interested.

Exactly! The prospect of flogging away with a mini track pump was more than a tad unappealling. I reckon 10-15 psi with only a little sealant in will do it. Ta!

Hmm, what pressure are the dogs inflated to though? I thought i’d ask, as my other flights with bikes were deflated, tubed tyres. These are dual ply tyres, so I reckon it’s worth a go?

i’m based near pangbourne, we’ll be out either tomorrow and/or sunday- email is in profile, message me and i’ll let you know. there are no trail centres, the nearest ‘built’ trails are swinley or aston hill, but the XC is exrensive and good,if a bit boggy at the mo!

I can’t open the route, but that descent at turville is fun, if brief. not many alternatives, legally.

Going the other way, there is the excellent descent from Northend to Turville. ‘Baint on none of them maps though!

@bradley/ononeorange We do rides regularly between Pangbourne up to Stokenchurch area, if anyone is organising anything let me know, and vice versa!

I’m going to northen italy in the summer with some mates. There seems to be a growing range of places in the north. we’ve not booked a guide yet, but I’d google “Molini freeride” and “rivierabike” for guiding on the coast, south of Turin. I’d also google “alpi bike park” for some more alpine stuff. The lakes (esp. Garda) have loads of riding, some a bit more xc, some pretty full-on.

Further south there’s less organised stuff and I don’t know about The legalities of Italian trail access. I lived near Bologna for a while in the early ’00s, but only rode roadbikes. That was fantastic, despite the constant battle of trying not to be dropped by the locals!

back again- i’d definitely go for a smaller frame then. I have a Cross frame going cheap in the classifieds if you want! (probably not as nice as the 1.5, TBH…) Would make a good winter bike though!

Kid2 + mortgage has to be a priority, but ignore me, i have both the 2 kids and the mortgage and it hasn’t stopped me buying bikes!

If you’re itching to upgrade something, what is it you want to improve? if it’s comfort/position/stiffness, look at frames. (or get some nicer bars/seatpost, etc) If it’s speed/acceleration/weight look at wheels.

You can always save weight with groupset choices too.

Look for a Kinesis/Boardman/Planet x frameset, or something similar. there are some lovely frames on Ebay/classifieds here/Cycling weekly. You can even prolong the excitement of buying shiny bits by steadily upgrading brakes/cranks/STI’s, etc, etc… If you buy a new bike now, you’ll only want something shiny to hang on it in a few months.

Of course you could just clean it and put some new bar tape on!

Having a second kid who is now 4 months, I’d say those longer rides might be swapped for a few early morning/ late evening rides when the brood is asleep/occupied. i wouldn’t spend a whole load of money on a bike you don’t want to take out at 6am in the rain. the longer stuff will come back in time, but probably not in the short term…

I’m running 26-38 on my soul, it’s the XT 2×10 crank, fits fine, no problemas with clearance. TBH i just bunged it on and it spins fine, never checked clearance! (I have one spacer, BTW)

There’s a singular peregine on ebay at the mo- takes discs and looks lovely. too small for me tho!

Something like that or a Salsa Vaya would be good for eating the miles…?

Farmer Giles- it’s you!! Has anyone noticed that since the smoking ban, all dancefloors smell of shit and BO, getting progressively worse as people get more leathered?

Actually, I does occur to me that there should be better riding round there- loads of ex midlands minefields, a bit like areas further north? Less hills and more clay soil I suspect- from experience!

That’s where i grew up, a while ago… Ticknall is the nearest andit’s expanded since the National Forest initiative. There’s a lot of stuff in Charnwood Forest, esp. Swithland/Cropston area, but a certain cheeky mentality is needed. There’s a lot of bridelways that suddenly turn into footpaths halfway along, and so on…

Not a hijack, but i’d love to know if there are any regular rides in the area too. I could do with a reason to take the hardtail over the road bike in future!

“Well, y’know, for most of the world, it’s their one BIG GAME.”

This is a part of the England myth that mystifies me; to most of the rest of the world we’re really an average side which should do better. The fact that other teams we consider ourselves to be equal to do better against weaker teams is becaure they are able to see them off as they are expected to.
    Likewise our great “rivalries”

Argentina= Malvinas aside, their rivalry is with Brazil.

Germany= fairly ambivalent about Britain, they like our music but wonder why we don’t do so well, and won’t shut up about the war. Have a bit of a permanent grudge fixture with the Dutch…

I like it, and the white rims/bars/post. Bikes are for fun, so make them look fun. :D

The garage is pleasing too. What is the floor covered with? I could do with something similar.

    Either;

Summer- a pint of Dr Hexter’s Healer outside The Bell at Aldworth.
Winter- a pint of Good Old Boy inside The Bell at Aldworth.

HA! love the cable car. I went to Garda a couple of years ago, and rode off the cable car there, but i was a bit cautious about riding “off piste” so stuck to the gravel…
just found this, anyone been to sauze d’oulx to ride?
