It wasnt that bad. Went east for 8 miles and then turned back, great fun, loved that downhill at the point where you have an option of avoiding the A27, didn’t enjoy going back up it though.

just had a message back from merlin cycles saying that this isnt covered under the manufacturers warranty. they have had lot of people complain but apparently its down to it not being used correctly???? have to buy a new one.

My revelations were put on my Rocket in July this year, the wheel has been on and off maybe 6 times and the maxle is chewed. Going to try the warranty route myself.

Thanks pleader that’s really useful. Having only ever ridden with bog standard lights from Halfords I find it rather difficult to take the financial leap to 200 quid. Maybe starting with a cheap Chinese number is best.

Interested in this thread as i have a 60 pound limit on my xmas pressy from the inlaws. It either goes towards some new forks or a decent front light. Unfortunately we dont have an answer yet. *sits back and waits*

Actually that read really badly, sorry. I didn’t enter the shop with the intention to bleed them dry of info and walk out then surf the net for cheaper offerings. I didn’t actually know if I needed anything rather than knowing i would buy elsewhere.

I think the point is that had I been subjected to the sort of service that was discussed in the thread yesterday then I wouldn’t have spent a penny.

Hmmmm well I was pleasantly surprised and hopefully if we shout a little more about how good customer service can bring more revenue, then maybe the instances of it will increase.

I have had so much rubbish CS in hotels, restaurants, and shops in this country, I am easily impressed when someone makes an effort.

Interesting how a positive report generates **** all in the way of response 🙄

Love it. Almost thinking I should’ve gone black rather than orange.

You should have got a branded chain stay protector with the frame??

    Like the white cables.

Very good point Ska, certainly won’t lose your chain if you don’t have one. 😀

    Thank you cynical.

A little more digging has dug up another issue though. Apparently the FSA crankset on offer only fits BB30’s. not sure my 2005 GT frame will have one.

Urrrgghhhhhhh buying a road bike would mean Lycra and stuff. The thought makes me shiver.

So I am guessing by the lack of “oh yeah don’t worry I do it all the time” type answers, this would be a risky purchase.

34 up front but want to know if you can mix brands.

If the bike shop that built my bike was on my doorstep I would use them. Anyone who lives nr Brighton should support Freedom Bikes. The guy who actually built it up was so enthusiastic, he offered advice(which I needed) he seemed genuinely happy to do the work and this sort of attitude is infectious.

I don’t get that sort of feeling from my LBS so I am trying to learn how to do stuff myself. I agree with fizzicist, make an effort, do something different, go the extra mile and you will succeed in most things.

It might be the latest thing if you don’t mind your legs spinning at 100mph while moving not very much.

I made a mistake, as this bike is to be used for general messing about and a fair bit of road stuff I need some extra umph! As well as being very anal over any slight noise due to things not being quite right.

    So can I mix?

    It’s a small bruneep.
Alex, Your list looks like the one I had before I ran out of money and had to buy stuff on offer 🙂 I would have liked it in green or blue.

Here’s mine, in Orange though. I love it but not loving the RS Maxle right now.

    SLX Shifters and levers

So it’s not looking good or a free replacement then. Maybe I am a it of a whimp when using it and haven’t been locating it properly as north wind suggests.

Here are the other bits of the other topic so you don’t have to repeat yourselves
Just had my first puncture on new bike and went to undo the rockshox maxle to remove front wheel and found that the cut out that gives the grip to turn the thing has chewed up. I managed to get it off but am a bit peeved that its happened as the thing is only a few months old. Is this a common thing to happen to this part? Have I caused it by over tightening? Can I claim on warranty?

    Cheers

It’s normal for them to wear a little in use but if this is the first time you’ve had the wheel out, that’d suggest crash/scrape damage rather than wear?

Just noticed the title of this topic! Maxed question? Bloody auto correct.
Sorry I didn’t make myself clear up there^^ I have had it n and off for cleaning and transporting but hadn’t noticed anything major but today a chunk of the metal just sheared off when I was trying to undo it. I would take a pic but its pointless as I can’t for the life of me figure out how to put a pic up n here without linking to flikr.

Do you need some hardware for all these apps to work? The two I just found in the App Store did.

So make sure things are really tight? Yes?

Thanks for the links, I have them saved for the weekend. As it happens I have managed to get on a basic maintenance course next week for a fiver as its subsidised by Sustrans. Am taking the offending article with me to make sure it’s fit to ride.

I have got to the point where my first part build will now move forward using the power of leg and pedal unfortunately I am completely screwed regarding the rear mech and possibly chain length. 1st I couldn’t get t into the big ring at the back now I can’t get it to move to any of the first 3 rings. Not sure if. Have made the chain t short now but a completely flummoxed and a little frustrated. So close but no cigar folks!

tried pushing out but it appears to spread a bit as its inserted. What is this quick link or power link stuff? i have heard of it but thought it was only useable on SRAM or KMC(or something like that)?

Thanks kimbers. It is mildly annoying that you can’t build up a perfectly good frame for less than a new bike like a canyon. Forks and wheels are killing me.

The fork coming off is a really pants suntour thing which is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Was thinking a max of 120.

Is there any way of telling whether it’s standard or tapered?
