I am in the hands of STW now we have moved into brands I am unaware of. Which model of the above would be equivalent?

Blimey! Thought it would generate more enthusiasm than 6 posts! OK what if I say I have reconsidered and am considering a 29er?

I haven’t but it might work.

I did my first (apart from forks) late last year but I cheated and used a frame and parts I didn’t mind messing up a few times. Turned out to be great fun and a wonderful way to while away the winter evenings. Good luck and take your tablet/laptop into the garage and embrace YouTube for building tips.

The hardtail purchase would range from trundles out on fire roads with my daughter to long SDW jaunts. Nothing silly, I am a particularly average middle aged rider and mange to scare myself enough n the Rocket so the HT will be for more sedate riding with occasional trail centre stuff when I have time.

    Small I am afraid

BFE is basically a hard tail rocket so not really an option, good call re price though.

Thought the vid was great as I like to see what might have been had i decided to continue riding after my halcion BMX days as a teenager. I didn’t though, and now all I can do is appreciate the skills others have.

I am in the market for a new HT frame this year, dependant on some cash coming in, and I almost bought into this 29er Solaris, then realised that I am 5ft 8 and actually just really liked the colour.

Going to post a question of my own in a minute as. Have no one in the house who will discuss frames with me.

Helitape in all the usual cable rub places and then on the seat tube at the point where the droplink suspension does its stuff. I found to my paint jobs cost that it fills with mud and grit and rubs away.

Hi, bike looks very nice. Have an orange on e myself and just a tip on the helitape suggestions. Make sure you do the part of the frame that sits in between the rear suspension pivoty bit(yes, very technical I know) if you get crap wedged in there during a ride it starts to rub quite badly, I found out just in time but another grubby ride would have made a bit of a mess.

    Enjoy it.

sell it. It may be heartbreaking at first but no doubt you will fall in love again with your new bike and forget all about the big girl.

I am in a similar dilemma at the moment, need some funds to buy bike stuff and the only stuff i have to sell are a couple of pieces of beloved rock memorabilia. been with me for almost 20 yrs.

sh!t, i just bought a stolen wife off eBay to add to my collection. The fact that she knows she was stolen and the fact she is now my wife, does this mean she will now be locked up and I will lose my money?

    that was rather awesome.

some good stuff on there. also, not sure if it promotes the need for a helmet or not. Did any of the guys who stacked it without helmets have brains to damage? all seemed to be smiling when they got up 😀

Excellent, no matter if its not bike related. Good news is always good to spread, kinda counters the work the doom mongering media carry out on a regular basis. Well done

Just about to head out in North Hampshire (the sandy free-draining bit), but planning on riding near Arundel tomorrow. Hoping the clay on the SDW may be frozen by then, but I suspect that is very wishful thinking

I went out from Amberley a couple of weekends ago offthebrakes. I looked like a swamp monster when I returned I was covered in clay from head to toe. Good fun though.

Currently in Berlshire in a hotel, driving back to Hampshire later and thinking of a SDW ride. Sounds like it could be a slippy one PeterPoddy?

I live in deepest darkest Hampshire and yearn for my home town in the lakes at times. However I have the coast 15 mins bike ride from my front door, I have e South Downs 30 mins drive and QECP to play with when I want to. Also have the trail ride series down here which I tried out for the first time on sat which opened up more trails to me in Newbury. Its nice down here, when I have to move I will be gutted but the only place I will go if I do move is the North.

I think it is probably the clay based muck from the south downs, it’s pretty tough to wash away, some might call it ‘a tad claggy’. Do I need to be concerned about rusting in that area now? I will apply tape this evening, thanks for the replies.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s a fault. I am wondering if its just abrasive muck getting into the mechanism and rubbing. Wanted to know if anyone else had found the same.

CRC were the cheapest UK retailer when I bought mine however I hd to get them from that German discount place who’s name I can’t remember as they were a lot cheaper from there. Want to buy from the uk but when you save close to 200 quid by looking abroad its a bit of a no brainer.
Cant really comment onnthe performance as I have a new set of SLX onone bike and an old XT on the other and the old hasn’t been right since fitted. SLX seem to be very good though, they have the ability to chuck me over the bars.

*resists childish joke about beating someone*

I had a ride out of Newbury yesterday with the Trail Break people on one of thier Trail Ride series. No idea who owned the land but there was some fun singletrack sections. I am gong to do as many of these as I can next year if they are all as good as the Newbury route. No snipers, marked route, and friendly dog walkers.

I agree with a lot of what crosshair is saying, if I was single, childless, and had free time in abundance I would quite happily whack a few trees to please a bunch of brain dead Americans in return for some lovely riding.

Got myself one off amazon for a tad more than the lidl/aldi option. It seems sturdy, lead spread is good so no wobbles, clamp is strong and so far no issues. Cant remember the name but have a search on amazon and look for one with blue clamps and grey tubes.

I have the sennheiser PXC 350. Bought a cpl,of years ago when I was commuting a long distance on plane and train, sound great and eliminate transport noise but you can still hear the call for your stop.

Oh ffs! I thought I hadn’t sorted in my head, now I am at risk of being taken out by a sniper!

On a more serious note I am sure no one would sneer at your hard work and livelihood being dealt a blow like that. I imagine it was not the intension of the bikers to do that and maybe clear signage and opening up between Feb and June might be the way forward to please all?

Ok,ok, I am a convert. I will no longer worry about such foolish things such as rules and will ride where I like without a worry but with consideration for others. You may think this daft, but it has lifted a weight.

No idea Simon but I know that upsetting a walker because I am somewhere I shouldn’t be makes me feel shit.

So the article in the magazine here about pouring over a map looking for secret trails that no one has found is basically pointless unless you are willing to break the law?

Guess I am sticking to the SDW then, bugger my law abiding nature!
