It’s an old truvative from a 2007 GT. struggling to get the damn thing off the old bike anyway so happy to buy a 2nd hand shimano but its the specific nature of hollowtech 2 I am querying.

Found something called IS mounts for sale on CRC, wondering if this is what I need. Frustrating that I just plugged them into the old GT frame without a thought and they worked, guess I was naive to think it would always be so easy

*even bigger sigh* you chaps have give up on me haven’t you 😳

Have tried googling but I think it’s a trip to the LBS. anyone have an idea what to expect to build up a frame apart from forks?

Ok,its all together except for the top cap as I need a 5 mm spacer. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Done! Smacked it with some wood and a hammer, looks nice and even. Now for the next bit.

That made me smile scaredypants. The LBS will be my first port of call once I have determined if I have the correct parts and still can’t get them to fit together. Have built a frame up before but the only thing I didn’t have to do was the forks as they were already on, so this is all new to me. Appreciate all the advice, there seems to be a couple of mm difference from the top of the steerer to the bottom, is this enough to be classed as tapered? Other tapered forks I have seen have been obviously different to the eye and these aren’t.

Oh dear, it looks like we have another potential balls up. The forks appear to be tapered which means the race isn’t sliding right down to the base, it sits about 5 mm from the base of the steerer 🙁 think I might have bought the wrong forks and or the wrong headset.

That would be cool. Massively discounted on CRC down from 90 quid to 20 hence my potential cock up while being blinded by a bargain. Only a bloody bargain if it fits!

    Bugger! This is a CF

Ok, it looks like its an integrated headset. Thank you for all the info, there is every chance I have ballsed up and bout the wrong thing, off to the on one website to see if it tells me about the headset for a whippet .

The two silver items to the right of the biggest black bit are certainly bearings. The box states that it is a headset excluding the top cap so I have bought this separately, is that the part you think is missing? I am trying to figure which bits I press into the top and bottom of the frame. As leffeboy says it doesn’t look like anything that I see being fitted in e you tube vids.

Does anyone know what the width fit is like on the sombrios and five ten? I have hobbit feet, short and wide so choosing size depends on width of the shoe. Cheers

Impressive jump though Johnbot. Just showed it to wife and she said. “You can worry about this stuff or you can go out and enjoy yourself, fun always has a risk factor” I thought she would have had my bikes on eBay immediately.

Hope all you injured folks heal quickly.

50 road miles for me as a training ride for the London 100. My god it’s not until you get on a road bike that you realise what a shite state our roads are in! Bloody potholes and no suspension are a mare. On the up side it was sunny and I didn’t get knocked off by a car 🙂

I started getting panicky feelings and chest pains earlier this year which was of concern. Doctor suggested. Give up caffeine for a while and they went immediately. Withdrawal was shite though

Try this app. ‘Discover music’. Stick in the app search box, it’s great, there is one for movies as well

I’ll take it Willard, I am sure I can go from 5 miles to 69 in a few weeks 😉

I still stand by my original advice. I know people who do these things a lot and the training they put in for one or maybe two events a year is amazing. Long runs in the 30’s and 40’s not teens of miles. Or at least back to back 20’s on the weekends.

I would dump the idea until fit again (fit as in not injured as opposed to being generally fit which you obviously are) don’t get hung upon one race as there are loads of interesting ultra challenges out there. It’s an unfortunate statistic that most ultras and distance races are over before they start due to training injuries. Feel for you Willard as I have been where you are lots of times.

Unfortunately I bring bad news. Ultra running is a specialist event, you really need to prep forI at least 12 months prior to the event. Whereas a combination of running and cycling can work just doing cycling wont. Ultras really hammer you and you need to get your body used to the hell you will put it through on the day, cycling won’t replicate the impact, the leg movement, and the muscle usage. Sorry, but you need to run 🙁

Does everyone go with the Sancho way of thinking back on page one? I have spent the majority of the last 6 years entering trail races as a runner. Very few of those races were about beating another runner but they were about beating the course, my last time, my brain. IMHO you don’t have to want to race others to be a racer or to enter a race as a runner surely the same can be said for riding?

Sorry, I know it’s not the OP’s point but I am just getting into this mtb lark and if this is the attitude at races then maybe I am best staying own my local trails.

Surprisingly versatile as well. Just had to use it for a flat bridleway ride today as other bike isn’t built up yet. 30 miles total and other than a sore arse because I can’t get the saddle right, it was quite stress free.
Saying that I much preferred using it on the red trail at QE Park yesterday 🙂

Sorry to hear you didn’t get great service Dave, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that top notch service means more custom 🙂

    Wonderful Glorious
Bet the link doesn’t work so my vote is for Wonderful Glorious by The Eels. Seen them live twice this year and they played the album in its entirety, awesome.

Probably confusing the matter but I built a Rocket for a smidge over 2k. If you went 2nd hand on the forks you could do it for 2k easy. Fun bike.

How re they for short sturdy types? Waist wise I normally go large but if they make the large for tall not fat then I am screwed. Thoughts?

Rather than finance could you consider the bike to work scheme? There are quite a few LBS that do this now and you can get a Cotic on bike to work I believe.

Sounds like the shop has just whacked on whatever they had lying around rather than thinking about it
