How are the for stiffness? I'm guessing that's where I might loose out on non biking ones.

that looks nice Si, would like to try a slightly bigger fork on mine at some point. not sure of the weight of mine, the frame is a smidge heavier than the kona it replaced but it's not hefty by any means.

I find the black chilli mountain kings cope OK when it gets wintery. Speed kings in the mud can be a bit scary!

    cheers si.
I'm very pleased with it, seems to have taken ages to get it put together. Looking forward to getting some good riding in.

I've watched a few of these go on ebay recently and it's usually a bit under £200 for fork and wheel. You'd probably get just as much on here, wouldn't have to pay fees, and might get someone willing to collect.

thanks guys, definitely a shop job now. just hope a £7 bolt failure isn't gonna cost me £150 worth of cranks!

just had another look, it is as you describe but the end or top of the cap has snapped off! so I can remove the main bolt but most of the tread of the cap is stuck in the crank. I think with the bolt removed I should be able to pull off the crank but it's not budging, even with rubber mallet type persuasion! then there's the question of how to remove the remains of the cap…

I'm a fan of bodgeing but it would be nice if components with these kinds of price tags worked as they're supposed to and would stand up to reasonable use. (Even if I did get it for half the rrp!)

chumba hx1, swapping everything over from my Kona caldera, just the seatpost and clamp that has to change.

it's a new frame, different size to the old one, but from what you said I guess 34.9 would do the job, thanks

yeah, I thought the smaller would be too small but also thought one of there standard sizes would fit as it's a fairly common post size.

I'm planning to pick up an HX1 at the weekend, I will report back when I've got it built up and ridden.

looks very nice but I'm sure I read somewhere that the guy was 'asked' by cove to stop making these without a licence. Sure he could do other stuff though.

Only have 'after' pictures on my computer, will try and get the before stitches look off my phone later:

Mashing up hill on my singlespeed the crank snapped in half and my leg landed on the severed edge. 8 stitches I think.

ton, what didn't you like? do you think it's down to personal taste or is it just a bad bike?

    Anyone else tried one?

cheers guys, I was trying to get a sky blue type of colour, something similar to the rocky mountain(which looks very nice) but probably a little bit lighter. GJP – I like the original paint job too but after 4+ years of riding it is covered in chips so I want to do something to personalise it, I did see a handjob for sale on here recently in black with a sparkly finish, that looked very tidy.
Argos sounds good, I was looking at dave yates to do the job as he's close to me, does anyone have experience of his work?

I've got a joystick and was thinking about a white eye. Could you post your experiences, run time with both lights on full would be good to know.

missing one run out of 6 months training can't be that catastrophic even if it is a big one. As above, two weeks is too short notice to be making much of a difference. last few days before the race should be rest days anyway. I'd sit out the cold and put in a couple of shorter runs when you're feeling better. Just don't forget to keep stretching!

You should be able to buy spare straps designed for strapping roll mats etc on to rucksacks at any decent outdoors shop, I'd try getting one and cutting it down.

yep, I find it a bit fiddly to lock down to the 100mm position. I've found dialing in a bit more rebound helps to eliminate unwanted dive, that and running a fair bit more pressure than maguras recommended.

Nice, I'm running Thors on my hustler, they're great. Can you wind them down or are you using the whole 140mm? interested to hear how the frame handles them.

that's interesting, i'm 6ft, was looking at the 18in frame as all my 3 current bikes are 19/19.5in frames, always felt I could do will something a tiny bit smaller but didn't want to go down to the usual 17in option. I wish all manufacturers would go up in 1 inch increments but I guess its a question of costs.

What forks are you running Benji? Promise I'll still buy the mag if you tell all here!

    thread resurrection…
for those who have one of these, how does it feel with a 130mm fork? I'm thinking about a virsa to replace my kona caldera(which I up-ed to a 130 fork the only down side being a slightly high feeling BB) think I would probably want to keep the 130 forks rather than 100, has anyone tried both? Seem to remember a review on bike radar saying they wouldn't want to run more than 100mm with this frame, any thoughts?

thanks guys, poor is fine, happy is essential!
Sounds like good advice, would definitely like to do some voluntary work, the NT thing sounds interesting.

yep, have done some loops similar, jacobs ladder and rushup edge are great, awesome riding but I need to be heading south to end up at Carsington so need good bits of trail on the way down (south peak district OS map east sheet) I can pretty much plot a straight north to south route taking in as much bridleway as possible but if there's any particularly good bits I don't mind going a bit out of the way. Might still add in the Hope/Edale bit but it's what to do once I'm moving south?

of course getting some just to be different would be a bit daft, that's why i'm looking for opinions first. sounds all positive, as for the hub there is a hope conversion around which could be an option for me, anyone have experience with that?

    johnduke

I thought the review just didn't seem to really commit to saying much.

anyway, I've just got some thors and they definitely need more pressure than magura suggest. Can anyone with a pair give examples of how much pressure you're running?
