Glastonbury gets a bad rep for it’s ticket cost – but last year I paid £350

Yeah, I paid £365 this year and I think it is very good value – not only for the bands, but for the whole experience. And I like that on-site food and drink isn’t massively overpriced like in many big arenas.

Queen and The Prodigy don’t count (unless you would pay silly money to see them without Freddie and Keith respectively).

I saw Simple Minds last year, IIRC that was £70/head which I felt was on the upper end of what I was willing to pay.

Yeah, Kiss toured last year (maybe it was the year before, time flies) and tickets were around £120. Not a chance I am going to pay that sort of money – I’d have been okay with £70-ish, just like other bands such as Iron Maiden were charging at the same time. But Gene Simmons is possibly the greediest man in music.

    Changed days.

Absolutely – ‘back in the day’ you had to be invested to really find out about gigs. When I was a young teenager in the early 80s, I’d buy Kerrang, NME and Sounds (along with our local paper the Yorkshire Evening Post) and look through all the ads at the back to find out who were touring. Then I’d post a SAE along with a cheque requesting the tickets I wanted or, alternatively, get the train through to Leeds to go to Jumbo Records and purchase them directly.

It really is shocking – queue for hours then finding out they are charging  festival weekend ticket prices – but what do you do? It’s your only chance, you got through and you really want to see them…

I decided from the outset that I wasn’t going to try for tickets and I’m happy with that decision.

Really? Without being rude when was that?

    That’s totally unimaginable!

    Could they smoke in bed?

When you think about it, the attitude towards smoking and how it has changed in a relatively small amount of time is astounding – remember a time not so long ago when Rows 1-34 on a plane were non-smoking and Rows 35-70 were smoking (so the poor sods in the rows immediately in front got next to no advantage of being in non-smoking) – some airlines were still allowing smoking until the late 1990s! Or sitting in a restaurant eating a meal and having someone on the table next to you light up a post-meal cigar, or working in an office where someone at every other desk was chain-smoking. Not to mention having to wash all your clothes after a night out in the pub because they all stank of smoke the next day.

I don’t recall smoking being allowed in hospitals though.

Very late to this discussion, but lots of it seems to centre around clinical questions, but evidence was found at her home reflecting her state of mind – I understand that this isn’t evidence as such, but it is a clear indication of her state of mind. To be fair, it is desperately sad that any individual could be in such a dark place.

I don’t really see any point in an outdoor ban unless there’s any actual evidence of harm, and I’m not aware of any

Err… The effects of secondary smoke inhalation have been known for years and years.

I am a non-smoker (and lost my mum to lung cancer) but I think this goes a bit too far – yes, stop people from smoking anywhere on hospital premises (apart from a dedicated smoking area well away from entrances). But, in general, I don’t really have too much of a problem with people smoking outside in beer gardens and the such – I am not keen on it, but I can tolerate it (usually).

I don’t believe in ghosts. My wife kind of does and is convinced we have one at our house (1980s house, we bought it from the estate of the original owners, both of whom we believe died in the house). We have a torch that is fastened to a unit with one of these:

Last week it somehow fell off – right in front of our eyes, despite it being a very snug fit.

Another Zinser (sp) vote here – I bunged some on guttering, downpipes and some shocking mock-Tudor wood bits on our house in 2020 when we weren’t allowed out. The wood bits are beginning to look a bit bad, but all the plastic stuff still looks as new. And I really didn’t spend time on it at the time – it was meant to be a short-term tidy up and nothing more. Zinster stuff is spot on.

I also did my roller garage door with it (just brushed) – it looked fine (the whole door got replaced as the old motors failed and the engineer said it was time for garage door heaven).

    Blur

Absolutely not a chance in hell that Blur would support Oasis.

We have Ring cameras front and back (both running on battery power so very easy to set up). Good quality cameras, good night vision, two-way audio, cloud back-up (at a cost), siren, motion notifications (that are customisable). They are very easy to set up and it’s equally easy to add further cameras if required. Amazon regularly has deals on them (especially if you buy multiple items).

To follow up on my first beer cost post – I went out last Thursday in Leeds and home to Harrogate. We just went to bars, all beers were more than £7 a pint, I paid £8.50 for the most expensive beer. These were early evening, standard beer prices (ie, not nightclub prices – do they even exist?).

    beer will be £8/pint

Beer is £8 a pint in most towns and cities now – I paid £8.50 for a pint last week in Harrogate town centre. Crazy :(

Zero apparently. Official ruled out on the BBC news this morning

So you think that the BBC (or any news agency) knows this definitively?

Yeah I cannot get excited by this – although it is a sequel, it looks like it is basically the same storyline with added extra special effects and bigger battles/fights etc.

Why do people always bang on about Oasis being a Beatles cover band? Yes, there are some similarities at times, but there is not a single song (that I am aware of) where I can say ‘yep, that’s just a rip off of [insert Beatles song name]’. Surely bands are allowed to be influenced by other bands they admire?

I don’t think I will bother – saw them back in the day in Manchester but I suspect the ticket prices will be a bit on the rich side. However, as usual, I will be trying for Glastonbury and I’ll be delighted if they are announced as headliners if I get tickets.

Or maybe this is just the woke mind virus ruining everything

That’s an interesting point – most of us try to be mindful and do what we can to be responsible people, but it shouldn’t mean we have to completely stop enjoying things that we enjoy. Watching Grand Tour isn’t going to make me drive fast and kill the planet or stop doing what I can to be a responsible adult, but I can still watch and (hopefully) enjoy it.

Agrees wholeheartedly with ad4m. Dickyboy – that was a pointless post.

But the OP post is great news – they are not a patch on where they were a few years ago, but still provide great entertainment and I am looking forward to it.

On a slightly different (but still Top Gear related). Has anyone seen the Freddie Flintoff programme – his face looks seriously disfigured still – it must have been a horrendous crash.

Edit: And it looks like Hammond is in a Mk1 Capri. :)

An alternative to FB is Freegle – it might be a bit time-consuming to get it all listed so perhaps you could list the main items and have an open day for people to come and get what they want on a first-come-first-served basis.

^ I was at the very front for PJ (and also LCD Soundsystem) at Glastonbury back in June – as you say, it’s mesmerising just watching her move around the stage :)

Both were very good, but Fontaines D.C. were the best band over the weekend for me.

What’s so special about it that it costs so much and you need to get it from this particular seller?

It has bi-directional action with a gold-plated tamp surface so the coffee tastes so much better.

We have a Cozzee gas oven – we’ve used one 19kg bottle, one small (5kg) and about 2/3rds down the current 19kg bottle – had it almost two years to the day (birthday present to myself) and it gets used once a week every single week (Saturday Pizza Night started being a thing in lockdown and we carried on with it) for at least three people and quite regular nights with friends, birthday parties etc. I love it.

We might go, but only because my wife’s brother lives out there, we are due a visit and we could take advantage of the opportunity.

We did the same for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as her other brother lives down there.

We also did Birmingham Commonwealth Games just because it’s down the road :)

Are you just trimming back or lopping? The recommendation of what you need will depend on what you are trying to achieve. Laurel is a bitch. Also, do you need long reach, or would a longer-bladed normal trimmer do the job as they are easier to use.

I have mine near the door. I figure, if someone is in the house looking for keys, I’d rather they found them and sodded off than came into the bedroom with a knife demanding them. Plus, y’know, fire.

Unless the fire is near the front door and the key to the back door is on the same keyring.

But I do leave one set (that has the key to the car someone would want to steal) by the door for the same reason as you, but we always have another set in the bedroom at night.

On another subject, has anyone had one explode on them? We did – a kitchen full of acrid black smoke and the smell was disgusting – it took months to get rid of the smell.
