Could it be up near How Stean Gorge?

Australian Pink Floyd… then continue the tour elsewhere, and apparently back in the country in 2025

I’m going to see them in November. They tend to tour every year and me and my brothers always go. We used to go with our mum and dad when they were around – dad was a huge fan and chose ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ to be played at his funeral. We always raise a glass to him when they start playing it.

Also got tickets for Electric Six and Fontaines DC in November and early December.

Fair enough – not trying to diss it – I’ve just never experienced such a weird steering experience. Other than that, they are a lovely car.

XC60 – They are a nice car, but they have the turning circle of an oil tanker and have a very weird steering ratio. When I had mine, I nearly crashed it more than once before I got used to it.

It’s a pretty simple task to fix it – take off all the loose paint, then skim over with fine finishing plaster (don’t worry about getting it perfect) then, once fully dry, lightly sand so the edges where the plaster meets the old paint are smooth and you can’t feel any ridge when you run a finger over it (fine finishing plaster is a doddle to sand back). I have done similar a few times and it is really easy to get an almost invisible repair.

It’s expected you tell your line manager that you are off for interview before you go

Is what I was about to say – my wife works in education (not as a teacher) and apparently that’s how it works. Saying that, the other party shouldn’t have said anything although, in their defence, they probably didn’t think about it and would have assumed her school already knew.

Makes a note to contribute to this tomorrow with a clear head. Life shouldn’t be this difficult as an adult. Even had a dream about suicide last night – that’s disturbing.

I’m guessing you didn’t own (and try to work on) an Alfa Romeo in the 80s.!

hah yes – a friend had an Arna back in the day (a joint thing with Alfa and Datsun IIRC). In-board disk brakes and a weird upside-down engine that made getting to the spark plugs almost impossible.

The log burner was fitted with a full liner.

Hmm, that might be the issue then – you now essentially have a void between the existing chimney and the liner and, as you are not using the log-burner at all, any damp in there is just stuck.

Is the log burner vent closed? If so there may not be enough ventilation. Is it a standard open chimney or has it been lined? Is there a cover on the chimney pot?

Excessive heat and / or damp ingress.

It doesn’t stop at 5 yr old (dad to two 15 yr olds, one is diagnosed ND, the other most likely is, but masks very well). It’s **** exhausting.

Going back to 2001, and two house moves, I’ve not had a TV aerial. There really is no point surely?

I have no idea if this is normal, but my electric car has ‘flappy paddles’ so I can control the amount of regen braking – it goes from ICE-like coasting when you lift off the accelerator to *almost* one-pedal stopping on maximum regen. I have quickly got used to using it – it’s normally set at mid-range but I whack it up to max when going down hills. It’s fun.

I’m sure Nil By Mouth has been on Film4.

It probably has, but I have never caught it (I don’t get much time to watch much TV these days TBF).

    Ohh, and Shallow Grave.

Nil By Mouth – I’ve never seen it or spotted it being broadcast.

Just looking at a Furguson Videostar gives me flashbacks to the explosive pop-up when ejecting a tape.

You do realise the “collapse” comment was a joke don’t you?

    DOH!

    johndoh

Agreed – finishing on 823 dec can hardly ever be called a collapse – in the run-up to the declaration the pitch had started to turn a bit so I assume Pope decided it was time to make the best of the conditions and, as stated above, it was clearly the right decision.

You will sometimes get people who won’t want the confrontation so will back down if you actually escalate.

And sometimes you get nutcases who wouldn’t bat an eyelid and happily escalate matters.

If you think you have been scammed, try getting a refund from your bank – my wife fell for a scam (nearly double-fell for it by requesting a refund via PayPal which would have charged her a second time but I caught it in time – as posted on here).

Anyway, she filled out a form online and got a full refund.

Is it a one off iPlayer screening or will it be on demand for a bit? I’d like to watch it but my evening shift yesterday snowballed into a 13 hour all nighter and I’m already nodding off ?

It is available for 30 days on iPlayer.

If they’ve decided they only want to run a tiny amount of heating to save money, I can’t see that running extra electric heaters is going to go down well.

    Was my thought as well.

Mine too – they want to keep costs down and you are providing what is possibly the most expensive solution.

Furry lined crocs. Ideal for popping out to the bin and tremendous for indoor slipper duties.

Absolutely, and some of the newest styles have a much more ‘trainer’ feel to them too.

I just got some of these from Amazon – they seem to be doing the job so far – insulated so they keep my feet warm, but they don’t get *too* hot.

I love winter storms when its all safe and cosy but this looks downright terrifying.

Yeah, there is a whole world of difference between a nice winter storm and this – even if it does weaken as expected, it is still massive and it is hitting landfall from a different position than they normally do in that region so it is expected to cause even more damage to a greater area.

What on earth is the point of this game being played on this wicket? How mind-numbingly dull.

Not strictly ‘incorrectly’, but I always read ‘Gnusmas’ as Samsung – my brain automatically flips it to the word I recognise.

    Buy a compatible cable

TBF I think that is looking the best option – they aren’t that expensive – I just need to check that the one I get will work (as mentioned before, the power input is in the base) so I need a suitable cable.

It’s actually pointless being angry, we just need to accept that **** live amongst us.

Have you looked in your drawer?  I looked in mine the yesterday and there were two of those power cables

I could have a look as I do have a big box of cables, old mobiles and other assorted gubbins, but on this model, the power input is on the base so it needs to be low-profile / angled to work.

What’s up with a choc-block and loads of insulating tape!?

As the OP, it’s because I am anal about that sort of stuff – I can’t bear repairs like that.

    What needs fixing?

Are the wires just exposed or properly broken?

    Wires just exposed.

Multi – where did you get that from? That’s the sort of neat solution I had been hoping for!

I am not fussed about Prime offers as they are generally pretty disappointing, but I miss the Treasure Truck.

My anecdotal experience of fireworks in the Dales is that they are a bit frowned upon because of the fire risk (setting fire to farmers’ hay barns). We once spent New Year near Hawes, let a couple off and had a couple of very angry farmers on our doorstep giving us a bollocking.
