Just wondering, how are you organising the logistics?

Personally I rode to the start at first light (Late May I think)
Got to Leeds planning to ride back the next day so stopped in a hotel (work paid ;-) ).
But the drag via Skipton and the strong head wind facing back to Liverpool was enough to make jump on a train home.

    Hi Dave

Sounds like you are local to me, if you fancy a spin out give me a shout.

If you know what it’s like to Wigan, then be prepared for it twice and bad up near Skipton.
when I rode it 2 years ago the draggy grass really lowered my average speed and affected my overall time.

Wait until the route past the Blue Elephant near Wigan is completely dry then you know the rest of the route should be a a lot easier.

South of Blackburn watch for where the tow path crosses the canal with a foot bridge, this is easy to miss and you end up going up a dead end canal.

As for the bridges, my advise is while you are waiting for the route to dry out, throw your bike in the car and go and reccie the route around the tunnels, it will make it so much easier on the day of your big ride.

Rather than carrying lots of water, about every 20 to 30 miles you should find a locked tap for boaters to use.
Buy this key (but test it before you set out) to get fresh tap water along your way

Richie of Silverfish was very kind a few years back volunteering stuff for a charity ride I was doing, without even asking him for anything.

    10/10 from me…..

Actually 9/10 as he didn’t like Fat Bikes at the time.

Are you a Fat bike convert yet for the extra 1/10 Richie?

Hovering over the buy button but worried about ordering 34s when I’ve been a 32 since Jesus was a lad. Can anyone who’s done the same offer any words of reassurance?

    I’m a 32″ but needed a 34″ in these.
Press buy on the 34’s, I’m sure Brant will help you out if wrong.

I love then and have a pair of Lauf Grit coming for my new CX bike.

They really do “absorb the ride” taking out the trail buzz, stopping hand numbness and with no real weight penalty.
Plus others hate their looks which I love ;-)

If you’re over Essex way any time contact Michael of Travers Bikes as he can put you in touch with a few down that way

    What a crap head line

The washing machines don’t explode, just their glass doors.

My Beko washing machine in the garage that I use for my cycling gear is set at 30 degrees.
I can’t see how slightly warm water will cracking/explode the thick glass door.

If you read the article that’s a massive 0.003% ….. “Exploding washing machines” how very Daily Mail

For the UK in September you don’t need a hood or even excess weight.

Although not available here in the UK a quick Internet search over the channel will find you your dream “quilt”
Just 350 grams, packs down tiny. I love mine for spring to autumn use and it’s in your budget.

Welcome to the club, I’ve got the fat and 29er front wheel change option as well.
    Ref
“Believe the hype….. the ride is amazing….. It’s a true trail bike.”

You are so right, I’ve had mine for 8 years and it’s still riding the same, I just wish I was a better rider to use its full potential.

I survived it was by far the worst 48 hours (health wise) of my life.

They started key hole, but the scar I have means that it didn’t work and they had to open me up instead.

I’m still to hear from the surgeon how it went, but I believe he’s due on the ward later this morning.

More of a roadie miles counting GPS rather than a tracker.
I got mine with a heart rate monitor in the pack, when adding this to the Aldi price isn’t much of a saving over the bundle offers out there

    I stick to this rule
    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Will4/5-6/50/section/72

The highways act of 1835, (25 years before the original “Boneshaker” cycle was invented) states
If any person shall wilfully ride upon any footpath or causeway by the side of any road made or set apart for the use or accommodation of foot passengers; or shall wilfully lead or drive any horse, ass, sheep, mule, swine, or cattle or carriage of any description, or any truck or sledge, upon any such footpath or causeway; or shall tether any horse, ass, mule, swine, or cattle, on any highway, so as to suffer or permit the tethered animal to be thereon;.”

No mention of cycles on footpaths, your honour…
