I’m only a fraction taller than you and only ride 29ers, Fat bikes and a 29er+ (Fatbikes are 29ers OD)
Test ride a few, look for a medium or small and you’ll be fine

    I ride
Small frame for fun, med for xc, large frame for touring

    10 x 2 = 20 gears, but they call it “21 Speeds”

Might be ok for 2 or 3 rides, then you’ll spend a fortune on upgrading it

Another vote here for the Travers 29er+, loving mine.

I’d happily let you have a spin on it Tony, just let me know when and where

Sorry I can’t comment on those two but I’ve just got and fallen for the Sony Cyber shot HX50

    http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-hx50-camera-hd-1080p-20-4mp-30x-optical-zoom-wi-fi-3-lcd-screen-with-8gb-card-black/p489436

Under £200 Pocket sized, x30 optical zoom, x60 digital zoom.

I’m still playing around with the settings but it gets a 9/10 from me, I’ve not found the B&W function as yet.

    On long zoom

    Depth of field

International Space Station, 30 second shutter speed

    On x55 zoom

And although no B&W you can pick out colours like this shot

Got my first one a week ago, 120 miles in and I think it’s brilliant,
Yes you do notice the rear wheel doesn’t spin as freely as a normal bike but it still spins fairly well.
I bought it on a complete build and the gear numbers were set up backwards, but a quick you tube video search showed how easy it was to swap back.
    I’m sold on it (atm)

A test ride with an open mind is the only way to find out if a bike suits you and your riding

Agreed, I wouldn’t use my Spaceframe for bike packing as there it’s much room for frame bags and the saddle on mine is too close to the rear wheel that I can’t get a large seat pack in the gap.

Try a diamond framed Jones, ECR or maybe a Travers, (see below).

NEVER add an S to the end of the word Cuillin or they throw you off the Island if you do.

Although it’s not much of a journey by a bike for the best sunset’s over “The Cuillin” head to here. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=159655&y=811575&z=120&sv=159655,811575&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=736&ax=159655&ay=811575&lm=0

If the weather’s good and you have time, there’s a nice walk to the point for a great place explore and whale watching, plus if the sun’s out this little beach is a real gem http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=156680&y=799790&z=120&sv=156680,799790&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=736&ax=156680&ay=799790&lm=0

Talisker Bay for the very quiet and very beautiful black sand beach in a fantastic setting.
Best saved for a sunny day when you have time to kill.

If it’s beach work, Salsa Mukluk get’s my vote as it’s Alu over steel.

On One Fatty is more trail orientated, but does the job with money to spare.

It’s the easiest bike to get off the back of, so never a need for a dropper for me at least.

    5’8″ 31 inside leg.
3d Spaceframe smaller of the two frames when you had the choice.
Fat fork, 100mm stem, layback seat post, jones bars.
The best bike I’ve ever ridden, it’s a much better bike than I am a rider.

For carrying gear the ECR ticks the boxes but it may be a bit heavy for some.

For lighter weigh and if you don’t want stuff on the front forks look at the up coming Titanium Travers Angus (mine arrives next week )

No, a failure for me as well.

Got 2 seats and clicked on a couple more pages before been told that the seats were now sold and I had to go back to the start and re try again.

Repeated this for 20 minutes before giving up and promising myself the tour DVD for Christmas

Driving up this later afternoon, hoping to find somewhere to camp in the wilds in the forest.

At least the trees will shelter us from the wind and it does look dry after a bit of rain tonight, but it will be cold and a cold wait until the start.
