we were considering moving from Baildon to Burley-in-Wharfedale so as to be near a direct rail route into Leeds – Mrs_D works in Shipley atthe moment but her job will be moving to Leeds some time in the next three-four years) – but I’ve just landed a job in Aylesbury 8O – so we might be relocating down there.

Basic nose in hover is ok

by that I assume you mean nose towards you…

nothing basic about nose-in hovering as your control inputs are reversed. Standard method of learning is tail-in (tail towards you) so if you turn left, the heli turns left, and so on. Nose-in is more advanced and not recommended until you’re confident tail-in and side-on

    anyhoo, I’m building a Ferrari

Ilkley housing is expensive compared to say Menston , Guiseley or Burley in Wharfedale. All on the same train line, on the A65 but not quite as expensive as Ilkley proper.

Ilkley, Burley in Wharfedale and Menston all in LS29 postcode (Leeds) but in Bradford district, so council tax will be slightly cheaper than Guiseley, Otley or Horsforth itself, all in Leeds district.

If you don’t need to be on a train line then West Park, Cookridge, Adel, Moortown & Alwoodley (LS16-17) are also close enough to Horsforth for cycle commute, all on the Leeds outer ring road but getting into town can be a nightmare – bus or car (or bike) are the only options. Stay outside the ring road if you can or if you’re not fussy ;-)

No new snow in Baildon (near Bradford) since yesterday morning

Cleared as in shovelled away? No. Gritted, yes. Outside mine & my immediate next door neighbours on the semi-detached side. Neighbours kids on the other side were sledging on their bit so I thought it would be rude to spoil their fun.

No new snow yet so we’ll see how it looks in the morning…

Yes but the houses are only fit for hobbits, and the streets for hobbit-sized cars

Lol at russianbob. Baildon resident here, lots of great off-road cycling on the doorstep. Did anyone mention it’s a bit hilly round here?

Baildon to Horsforth could be done by bike quite easily, a lot of it off road (I.e canal). Trains from Baildon go to either Shipley & Bradford, or Guiseley , Menston, Burley-in-wharfedale, Ilkley. If you want to go to Leeds or beyond, it’s a change at either Shipley or Guiseley. Car into Leeds is either A65 via Guiseley, or A657 (and eventually A65) via Shipley, Greengates, Calverley, Rodley. The latter is relatively affordable and only a short hop to Horsforth on the (very busy) Leeds outer ring road.

another thing about Horsforth – it’s split into two parts, and the original part ( with the railway station) is right off the end of the runway at Leeds-Bradford Airport.

Horsforth is on the Harrogate rail line, next stop out is Weeton (which is actually in Huby) but then you’re getting into Harrogate and prices start going up again.

Keighley is a hole, as is Shipley. And most of Bradford. Thackley, Apperley Bridge ok, Greengates not. Calverley is nice as long as you keep away from the Greengates end. Avoid post codes BD1-9 (although BD5-7 are south of the city so probably not ideal anyway). Keighley’s suburbs are nice, mostly, but overrun with tourists when you get out towards Haworth. Saltaire full of tourists too, and home to All Terrain Cycles

I’ve lost three cats to traffic :-( luckily the latest one is not interested in going outside, we’ve had him 11 years and he was about 8 when we got him.

Old lad is doing ok but i’m dreading the inevitable which will probably be sooner than i’d like

Yeah, Niagara Falls Ontario (the town) is not especially  nice.

The Falls themselves are awesome. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area (Toronto is about 2 hours drive). But don’t plan on staying overnight

There’s a big park on the US side which looks quite nice but I can’t say what the town of Niagara Falls NY is like

Try http://www.premdor.co.uk – I used to work there – many more sizes available than the standard, and custom sizes also available. But you may need to go through a merchant such as National Hickman, Travis Perkins etc

I think the Tempest MkVI had the radial engine – Napier Sabre?

all models of Tempest had a thinner wing than the Typhoon , which was meant to be a replacement for the Hurricane but was not great at altitude, excellent in the ground attack role.

I think the Sea Fury was derived from the Tempest MkVI and missed WWII but was used in Korea. Only piston engined fighter to shoot down a jet in that conflict irc.

Is the Tempest the one with the chin radiator, or radial engine like the Sea Fury ( and FW190 before it)?

My new prescription multifocal lenses arrived today while I was out, right eye unchanged but left eye stronger distance prescription. Will try them out tomorrow.

interestingly, mrs_d has opted for the ‘wear one lens and let the brain use the other eye for reading’ approach and that works fine for her

But it’s good to know I can get replacements if I really need to

If the Friday interview leads to an offer, ask for the weekend to consider your response. Hopefully by the Monday you’ll have two offers to think about.

seriously though, what do you want to do?

Thanks guys. Bearing in mind i’m 52, mrs_d is a bit younger, we have no kids and we currently live about 5 miles north of Bradford, about 5 miles from Leeds Bradford airport.

We both drive so living outside the town centre wouldn’t be a problem. Probably a good idea tbh.

Traffic can’t be anywhere near as bad as the A65 into Leeds, or the M62 between Leeds & Manchester, can it?

Actually, a friend recently asked “when did we start pronouncing B-R-A-U-N ‘brown’” and the answer was “when we stopped being ignorant about the pronunciation of foreign words, it’s always been pronounced  ‘brown’ where that word comes from”

E – Mumtaz chicken karahi with pilau rice. It’s a Bratfud thing

D – first a glass of prosecco to toast my new job offer received today, then a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, then some beer. King Goblin to start with, then perhaps some IPA or maybe something dark. Jaipur perhaps

L – more of a W really, Started watching Jason Bourne but realised i’ve already seen it so it’s over to Netflix…

Stayed in Bali, between Heraklion and Rethymnon on the north coast of Crete, summer 1997. Effing hot in July and knack all to do when there. Maybe two bars, four or five restaurants. No ATMs but that was a long time ago. Nearest ATM at the time was in Rethymnon, which needed a hire car/scooter, or a twenty minute walk to the highway to catch a bus.

    Never been back.

oh aye, there’s the ‘famous’ Greek plumbing to bear in mind too

I found that going through a life threatening and changing disease worked pretty well for me. Not really best recommended route though ! 😀

    </span>

    this.

i used to get stressed by all sorts of crap. Then mrs_d was diagnosed with cancer. That certainly focuses the mind. Day after her treatment finished, I get notice that my job is redundant. This could have been really unpleasant but compared to cancer, it’s nothing really.

fast forward to the end of my notice period, i’ve lined up a contract job that ended up lasting three years. No stress, no corporate BS, just roll in, do the job, go home at the end of the day, remembering all the time that nothing is as bad as your favourite person in the whole world going through treatment for a life threatening illness.

It’s set to record. Might watch half an hour or so.

i think it’ll be either a romp for Philadelphia or it’ll be very close until the fourth quarter when Brady will do what he does have a tendency to do, New England winning with the last play of the game

Looking good. Did you pre-shade with the airbrush or with a hairy stick?

The airbrush is a great tool for applying the all over gloss clear coat ready for decals. And then for the Matt/satin/gloss coat after the decals
