Saab 9-3 Sportwagon diesel – just traded in a BMW 320d SE Tourer against this one

Plenty of boot space for my drums. Will also take bikes (I assume)
Diesel because I do a 30 miles each way commute
heated leather seats, sat nav & bluetooth phone thing because that's what came with the car
cheaper to own than the BMW
more boot space than the BMW
supposed to be more economical than the BMW
not a BMW (not that they're bad cars, they're very good)

better looking than a Vectra (with which it shares many mechanical bits)
smaller than a Mondeo (which wouldn't have fitted on my drive)

you could try a small experiment. Nigella Lawson regularly freezes left over wine in small plastic bags, ready to use for cooking with.

Next time you open a bottle, save a glass & pour it into a plastic bag (food/freezer bag; carrier bags tend to have holes in them), then bung it in the freezer. Leave it a couple of days, then take it out again. Let it defrost & then try it. If it's cr@p you have your answer

Or plan B you could find a Co-op near the camp site & buy a bottle already chilled as you need it.

supposed to be going straight to auction. Saab main dealer won't retail a 5 year old beemer with that kind of mileage; but I'll have a look anyway. And you can't "slim down" the mileage as easily these days – DVLA will be all over them if they try it

The quote was from a vauxhall dealer (pentagon)

well there you go. Main Dealer quotes on a 7 year old car? no way. Find yourself a decent independent.

And as for Parkers… try What Car – they have an online site with used car valuations. Not as accurate as Glass's Guide, but unless you're in the trade you can't see that anyway.

I just traded in a 2004 BMW 320d SE estate with 106k miles on the clock. Got identical trade in values from 2 different garages (both non-BMW main dealers) of £4250, compared with What Car's estimate of £4700 – close enough for me.

+1 for American Werewolf. Although it's more of a comedy IMO
+1 for Salem's Lot as well.

    North of Bradford

good: ace trails on your doorstep; fantastic curry; Leeds close enough to do the social life thing

    worst: well it's Bradford, innit?

deserter – I know what you mean. Just spent a week in Canmore. and a few more days in Vancouver. I know where I'm emigrating to…

well the perp that did ours only got into the conservatory, in which the only items of interest were a TV and a little CD/Radio. CD got left; TV was already broken…

Annoying that I've now had to spend close on £200 to replace the handle & lock that they buggered, but pleased in a way that, if caught, they're going to jail for a broken TV

Strictly speaking punk was a fashion before it became a musical/social movement. McLaren has a lot to answer for ;-)

I may be one of those that WY Police were talking about – I've just been done, about 2 weeks ago. burglars wrecked the outer handle of my conservatory & snapped the euro latch as easy as you like.

They got a 19in flat screen TV. Which doesn't work

I spent a chunk of today replacing the euro locks and handles with the very same things you describe. Take out the trip to the locksmiths (C H Wood in Bradford – very good BTW) & I doubt it took me more than an hour or so

Quite liked Southern Death Cult, Sex Gang Children and Alien Sex Fiend.

GOTH. ASF were about as goth as you could get. SDC became Death Cult became The Cult, and we know what happened to them. Might go see them do the Love album live in October though

Most, if not all, of the goth bands would not have happened if it hadn't been for punk. You could argue that one or two of the punk bands became goth (Siouxsie & The Banshees anyone?).

I started listening to SLF & The Undertones, then The Damned & The Clash, because the band I was in at the time (1981-84) were doing that kind of stuff. We 'evolved' into a goth band like many others at the time (see above).

I never really liked Joy Division though.

the TV has an 'off' switch

Your house has more than one room (usually)

There are alternatives, even if someone else in the house is getting sucked in.

    another vote against Sheffield here.

I worked there for a whole 2 months. Couldn't stand it any longer. Wouldn't want to live there. But on the other hand, it is better than Rotherham (where I worked for 2 years). Just.

besides, Kevin Blackwell works there now ;-)

my first recollection of a migraine was when I was about 11 – out for the day with a mate & his family, I'd had about a gallon of cola before we set off, & I remember asking his dad to stop at the side of the road will I barfed. Least I didn't mess up the inside of the car :-)

I've never drunk any cola type drinks since.

Next one was while watching Swap Shop, about a year later. "Why can I only see half* of Noel Edmonds' face?"

*ok, some might say that's a blessing ;-)

what ernie said about relative relaxation.

I use Migraleve pink tablets as soon as I recognize an attack – it's usually enough to just leave me feeling a but woolly, although it does have a couple of side effects: 1) big hunger when it finally passes and 2) constip… well, enough said about that ;-)

I can't remember the last time I saw 100W incandescent bulbs on sale. I'm switching to the low output jobbies as I run out of incandescent bulbs. I think I still have some SES 40W candle bulbs… and no lights to put em in.

Leccy bill is coming down slowly as a side effect :-)

    Also consider York

lovely city but flatter than a witches tit ;-)

Just north of Bradford does it for me. In the hills already, ace riding from the doorstep. Commutable into Leeds in 20 or so minutes by train, an hour max on the towpath if you want to cycle in. I don't recommend commuting into Leeds by car though.
Oh, and the best curries in the world can be had anywhere within the Bradford Metropolitan District :-)

Leeds is one of those cities that is crying out for some decent public transport, but as soon is it gets somewhere near, the lovely government decides it'd rather spend the money on something ephemeral, like the Olympic Games.

From where I live in Baildon, I can be (by car) in the Yorkshire Dales in 30-odd minutes, and in Kendal inside an hour. Hell I could probably ride to the Dales in a not unreasonable time

never mind the r/c aeroplanes. They won't fly until April even if you finish them tomorrow.

r/c helicopters is where it's at.

You can even fly the electric powered ones indoors on a dark wet windy night if you have access to a sports hall / village hall / church hall kind of thing

And if you get the really small ones, you can fly in your front room.

I have some goldfish in my pond. And some shubunkins & some blue orfes & some golden orfes.

I've had them about 7-8 years, from 3in specimens.

They're the size of small trout now. Greedy buggers too. they'd eat your charcoal & come back asking for the entree

or again, use part of Lord Summerisle's route as far as Colne, then across towards Keighley via Cowling & Crosshills; from Silsden over the top towards Addingham, then onto the A65 to Ilkley.

From Ilkley take the A660 to Otley, then A659 to Pool in Wharfedale, then north onto the A658 & bypassing the south side of Harrogate & Knaresborough…

take a printout of the list to your local supermarket(s) and/or beer sellers. Cross off anything that is readily available at these fine establishments.
