proper suit looks good. but we're not talking about suits here…

No such thing – jeans are blue not necessarily. Mr Wrangler (and so doe Mr Lee Cooper, and others) makes 'jeans' in black canvas. The seams are on the outside, so that makes them jeans. So they're not made of denim, so what?

    what joe1983 said

I've never "enjoyed" a Big Mac

I went to Canadialand this summer (Canmore, Calgary, Kamloops & Vancouver).
Wendy's are so much nicer, but you can only eat so many cheap burgers…
Tim Horton's donuts were rather nice though

in Bratfud, the post-alcohol meal of choice is a Chicken Bhuna. Hmmm, Chicken Bhuna. With a shami kebab, samosa or onion bhaji for starters.
Served with 3 chapattis of course.

    brakes, that sounds very familiar…

jeans aren't smart, so "smart casual" does not include jeans. Sorry Clarkson

CHINOS, DECK SHOES, SPORTS JACKET. Fortunately these items have yet to appear in my wardrobe. I'm 40 soon, are these what i need to grow old gracefully?

I'm 45 next birthday; if that's what it takes to grow old gracefully, I think I'll do it disgracefully thanks

    The Damned 'Smash It Up'

eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE05qtYlf9w this is pretty good when Wayne Hussey really lets rip 3min20sec in

I was in a band with a guy who got into speed, coke, acid, weed, but he never tried any opiates. When he was clean he was a nice bloke; when he was using he wasn't.

Watching him was a very good advert for not doing any of that sh*t.

I went to his funeral about 4-5 years ago, he was 35. OD'd on heroin, the one & only time he'd tried it.

Been a fan since 1982 so I've done all my long distance following…

    define "recent"

in geological terms, "recently" there was an ice sheet covering most of northern Britain. I would expect one or two bergs to have calved from that lot

my top lip cannot grow anything decent.

the rest of my face, though, if left unkempt, soon ends up looking like Ken Bates. This is not a good look on someone only in their 40s.

And there's a bit on my chest that gives my top lip something to laugh at ;-)

first year is spent getting everybody reading from the same hymn sheet, if mine was anything to go by. For those of us that had already done 90% of it, disinterest soon set in.

I didn't finish my degree, I got waylaid by music, girls & booze, not necessarily in that order ;-) but that was a long time ago

Im just imagining that death would seem like more of a deterent to some doped up 18year old with a knife
sadly this type of killer is usually too doped up to understand such a deterrent.

    I had a 146 & then a 156.

I traded the 146 in for the 156 after 133,000 miles. It had some issues with the electrics, but that was down to water getting in the radio aerial & dripping down to the fusebox, eventually. Great to drive though. Mine was a P-plate too.

The 156 had a broken cambelt just inside the warranty period (I mean less than 1000 miles from expiry), but got fixed under warranty. But then the head gasket went about 3 months later. Hmm, result of the cambelt job not getting done properly? Anyway, the garage fixed that under the terms of the warranty from the cambelt job.

I then traded it in before the third strike…
for a BMW 320d Touring. Which was great, but too small really. I had that for over 100,000 miles, and now I have a Saab 9-3 Sport Tourer. Not as quick off the mark as the BMW, or even the 156, but quick enough for me.

Alfas then. I'd have another but not as my main car. I couldn't get my drums in the Sportwagon

we've had that comparison a few times now, don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, as I'm not familiar with their work yet

sounds quite reasonable including the fittings. Does it include the fitting though? If it does I think it's very reasonable

The door may cost (I'm assuming) Jeld-wen £35 to make, but they'll be wanting a profit margin; Howdens will want their profit margin too.

I've never got the hang of double kick. I guess I'm too one-footed. Good foot technique can get round that to a degree, but if you're doing fast sixteenths on the kick(s) then a double drum or double pedal setup is essential.

But you can hear from our music that I don't particularly need to be good on the double kick, it's not that kind of music

he's clever, he can work the computer.

he's a rescue cat, previous owner died, so we took him off the RSPCA's hands.
He's not allowed out on his own after we lost the previous two to traffic within a fortnight of each other.

So the birds don't suffer either :-)

If I was / when I become(!) a professional drummer, playing day in day out, I doubt I'd be quite the size I am. It's quite a good workout, for your arms & upper body anyway.

ah yes the old north vs south sectarianism raises its ugly head again.

I'm a Yorkshireman. I was born here and I live here, and quite possibly may die here. It has its grot spots – quite a few of them, mostly former industrial centres; but it also has its nice bits, and I'm not talking about just the National Parks. Within 5 miles of the centre of Bradford is some of the most fantastic scenery you can get in England.

I've been to the south once or twice (and then some). That too has its nice bits & not so nice bits. But I wouldn't want to live there.

I was gingerly walking my bike down the beast when I slipped on a wet rock. Foot turned 90degrees to the left, but the leg didn't. SNAP.

If I'd ridden down I would probably have been ok.

FD60 doors are quite thick and heavy and wont fit into a normal interior door frame.

without having one of our catalogues at hand I can't disagree with you about the thickness (although I'm 80% certain an FD60 door can be got in 40mm if not 35mm thickness); but as flatfish says, the only thing stopping a thicker door from fitting in a typical interior frame is the position of the stop. Which can be removed & replaced as necessary.

But if you were to rip out the old door and frame and then fit one of our Speedsets, that wouldn't be a problem

But what do I know, I only work in the IT department, I don't fit the damn things ;-)

I broke my fibula in May 06. Dislocated the ankle too. The fracture didn't hurt that much but the dislocation certainly did.

In plaster for about 7 weeks, then had the screws removed from my ankle. The first physio session I had got me walking properly again

Personally I like to buy 'hard' copy, then rip it to PC & download it to my MP3 player. I like the artwork. I also like the fact that, if my little electronic device goes "pop", I haven't lost my original copy. Even if my PC also goes "pop".

As for Apple brand vs the rest? Whatever works & is the best value for money suits me. So sorry Apple, you lose. Yes their stuff works. But is it VFM?

    and another thing….

the 'moulded' 4 (or 6) panel jobbies from wickes & the like have 38mm (at most) timber stiles (vertical edges) & rails (top & bottom edges), the rest is hardboard skin, filler (often hexagonal paper core – think of a wasp's nest) & a lockblock – and a further spine down the middle if you're lucky.

This is not normally a problem, but do buy the closest size you can get to what you actually need. If you have to shave more than about 5mm off each edge, get the next size down if you can

If you can, get fire resistant doors; the added benefit is that they're denser so less sound passes through. The downside is they're heavier.

Have a look at our range here: http://www.premdor.co.uk/

Wickes, Jewson, Travis Perkinst etc stock our doors so you shouldn't have a problem sourcing them. FD60 is our best fire rating, but even "Safe 'n' Sound" have some fire protection rating

If you were in a new build I'd recommend our "Speedset Plus" range, where the door is already fitted to the frame; remove the old frame, add the new one (with door), then add the architraves – job done. Not so good for older houses where right angles are just a fancy newfangled idea
