or was the footpath crossing a field boundary, with the electric fence there to keep the livestock in? if so, there should've been a stile or gate somewhere nearby

FWIW I bought a small fixed-pitch non-coax heli as my first one. Too big for in the house, too small for outdoors. so I bought another, then another…

I now have a fleet of 5, from a Blade MCx which is small enough for in the house, up to a .30 nitro jobbie for outdoors:

Fighting C0ck, Bradford, if it's still there. Great choice of real ales, but I haven't eaten there. You don't go to the FC for the food…

Lord Darcy, Alwoodley, Leeds. One of the many favourite haunts of North Leeds MTB. Several real ales, and decent food too

The Fisherman's, Bingley. Haven't been for a while, but some great riding from there too (short ride from The Brown Cow as mentioned above)

The Sun Inn, Norwood, near Harrogate. Great riding nearby in the Washburn Valley, including Stainburn if that floats your boat, and decent ales for afterwards

the Soviet/Afghan 'lesson' is not the only one we/oour glorious leaders should be learning from.

I think there was a British/Afghan lesson to be learnt from back in the 19th Century.

When will people learn? Afghanistan cannot be "conquered", as it is, in large parts away from the bigger cities, tribal and possibly even feudal.

Take away one government & replace it with another, any flavour, it will make bugger all difference out in the hills

While they are there we should support our troops, at the same time making it bloody clear to the outgoing government here what we really think of it all.

And to get back on topic, "I disagree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it". John Lennon? Mark Twain?

I spent 3 nights in Vancouver last summer & loved it. Not sure if I'd want to live on Robson Street though. Spent another 5 nights in Canmore and 2 in Calgary. Calgary I could do without, Canmore would be great if there was work for me – but it's not a city.

re Huddersfield – Fartown makes Bradford look nice ;-)

anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that one can have an opinion about something, without going overboard and criticising something that one is not qualified to criticise.

you may not have liked Rodrigo y whatever her name is, that's fine.

    night all

it wouldn't be a film without the Abba songs. come on you can do better than that

    john_drummer

    never did

you're not going to get me to criticise Abba – to be frank I admire them.
I just don't like their music, any more than I like Country & Western, or "R'n'B". Simply not to my taste. Probably any more than the music that is to my taste doesn't do anything for you.

Mamma Mia. It's full of Abba songs. and I don't like Abba.

    yeah, generally.

I'd be happy to say "I don't like Karma Chameleon", for example, but to criticise the guitar playing, or harmonica, is beyond me. I could maybe have a go at the drumming, but as the guy playing was a pro and way better than me, would be kind of churlish. do you see where I'm going?

global warming? the ice age is coming! run to the hills!

on a serious note though, if the predicted climate change does end up melting the arctic ice caps, releasing loads of freshwater into the North Atlantic, it could do very funny things to the Gulf Stream – which is the only thing that keeps the British Isles milder than they ought to be for their latitude…

the only city I've lived in was Bradford, from '82 when I went to uni, to '98 when I finally got out into the 'burbs. Sh&thole.

now in a 'village' on the outskirts of the Bradford district, but with trails, hills & countryside right from the doorstep. Still have to go through town to get to the motoroway to work though. Still a sh&thole, made worse by the Westfield Hole where they promised a shopping centre

but it is cheaper than Leeds ;-)

ex smoker here. quit 12 years ago cold turkey – I simply didn't want to do it any more. Never had one since & hate the smell on people that have just had one. especially if they sit/stand opposite me & breathe out or talk…

alcohol – in moderation, and never before 8pm. Can't remember the last time I was drunk, not even on a NYE

Mr Woppit, do you play guitar yourself?

just asking, mind. I can just about play guitar, and I thought they were rather good. But as my handle might suggest, I'm not a guitarist ;-)

yeah, can't see the point mi'sen

I mean, why not move the calendar back (or is it forward) 10 days?

so the new year would start the day after the winter solstice, and midsummer would really be mid summer

if it's cloudy it's not ready. You may get the squits, you may get away with it.

But the taste will improve if you leave it a couple more weeks.

Don't add any finings, as you'll need to let the gas out first. I did that once. The pressure barrel cap flew off & hit me in the eye. Blinded for (thankfully only) 12 hours, and a permanent distortion in that eye ever since

    So if it's good already…

Oasis are stil playing exactly the same shite, just rehashed, as they were over 15 years ago,

actually, they're not. not any more :-)

BTW I never really got Pink Floyd either. Or Genesis.

Status Quo were never really 'rated' either, so can't be 'overrated' ;-)

All that bile and angst, it must be hell. no, not really, That's reserved solely for ABBA

when I was 18 I saw New Model Army for the first time. Actually, no I was 17. They're still going, and I still love their stuff, old and new. And a lot of the stuff that started coming out round Leeds & Bradford round that time – Southern Death Cult, Sisters Of Mercy, The Mission, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Skeletal Family, 3 Johns, Ghost Dance, March Violets, you get the idea

I still listen to the stuff I did when I was that age, but I haven't stood still either. I now listen to mostly guitar bands, but also classical, some older rock & even metal now & again – but I can't be doing with 'death metal' or what passes for 'goth' these days.

And as for "RnB" – WTF has that to do with Rhythm & Blues????

but right now I'm listening to demos from our singer/guitarist in preparation for tomorrow evening's practice session
