The 3 series is not a real BMW, you need to look at 5series & above

I had an '04 320d Touring for nearly 5 years/100k miles. I bought it 1 year old with a full service pack already attached, which saved a bit on servicing (everything except tyres) up to 60k miles. Never really had the getting let out problem.

Reliable as the days are long. small/narrow bootspace. Radio reception died towards the end of my ownership but by then I was trading in anyway so it didn't matter to me.

My daily commute is 30 miles each way across Bradford/Leeds and I never got more than 40mpg, despite not being heavy footed and it being a diesel. The problem was the bit getting from home, north of Bradford, to the M62/M1 south of Bradford/Leeds.

my new car gets about the same mpg, it's a Swedish Vectra diesel. Sorry, I mean a Saab 9-3 Sportwagon

BMW – nice car but expensive to buy.

Avoid the pale grey cloth seats as it gets grubby very quickly and is a pig to clean

if it's working (ish) on the active circuit but not on the passive circuit, or on the E string, then I suspect either (a) the bottom pickup isn't working or (b) the whole of the wiring needs looking at. I suspect (b)

there should be some plastic plates on the back that you can unscrew to get at the wiring but, unless you're any good with electronics, I'd take it into a decent guitar shop & get it looked at. Shouldn't cost too much.

My mate had a Westone Thunder back in the day. Stuart Morrow (ex New Model Army) also had one, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzjHbbXH2XE

I doubt if the problem is with the Vox thing

you could always trawl the woods for a suitably shaped piece of bark; cut out eye, nose & mouth holes, paint it green & go round saying "smmmmmokin'!" and things like that

personally I'd rather spend a tenner on a disposable watch*. How accurate do you need a watch to be, exactly?

*Typically, a battery will last 2 years; then you might be able to change the battery, that's another 2 years. For £10. no brainer

I just found out I've had 1 buildings, 1 contents and 1 buildings & contents policy running at the same time for the last 15 months.

Remortgaged Nov 08, one of the conditions was we take their B&C insurance. Completely forgot to cancel the separate policies, until now. Saved loadsamoney now, shame I didn't do it earlier

    no no no no noooooooo

    cancel the visit.

BTW avoid Northern Trade Windows in Thornbury.

The product may or may not be good but the experience we had with their salesforce does not endear them

I use flickr; dead handy if you have a yahoo email account. Others use photobucket, fotopic, and there are others.

    I gave up on fotopic

BTW there are some large cats that share geographical ranges with the grizzly bear: cougar & bobcat to name but two (we know them as mountain lion and lynx).

If a bear is hunting you, you'll hear it coming; you might not be able to outrun it, but you have a chance. If a cougar is hunting you, you won't.

Ooh, I dunno, Kipper, if it wasn't for geography I reckon a grizzly bear might have a thing or two to say about your admiration for felines…

    are you sure about that?

(ok, it's a black bear, not a grizzly, but so what?)

A pet that needlessly kills all the wildlife in its vicinity, craps in other people's gardens and remains indifferent to your very existence.

you've not met my cat then.

As the 3 before him all succumbed to motor vehicles, Bobby is an indoor cat. His cr@p is in a self contained box that needs emptying every few days. He doesn't kill any wildlife

and he's such a needy so-and-so that he'll frequently lie on my keyboard to get attention

people started realising that he isn't actually that funny, so the work dried up. Ricky Gervais is next

it does do my head in though when they say the winners are "World Champions" – World????????? yeah right.

well, technically, I guess they're half right, as apart from the slightly odd (IIRC) version played in Canada, the NFL is the world as far as this particular game is concerned ;-)

*IIUC, the game played in Canada is like wriggle & run compared with rugby union…

    not my problem ;-)

seriously though; if a child's school is closed due to snow, what are the chances of the parent actually getting to work anyway?

it does though. Think about it. You work, you have 25 (give or take) days annual leave + statutary hols. You do your best to work around the school holidays, but there are still some days when you have to balance your 5 weeks annual leave against the cost of a child minder or other childcare arrangements for the (6+ at summer, 2-3 at Christmas, 2-3 weeks at Easter) weeks of school holiday.

Now throw in an extra 2 weeks when the child/children is/are off school

5 weeks into 10 doesn't go, does it? 5 weeks into 12 goes even less

but hey, not a parent. I can go on holiday whenever I like/can afford ;-)

and for what it's worth, I'd probably have the Skoda out of that list too.

I'd see if you can find some old bills in your name at this address, dated as far back as you can get. Copies to all debt collection agencies, Experian & the like, and the county court too.

Otherwise you're lumbered with her bad credit history

    I know, I know.

The Estelle convertible was the one on which the "what do you call a skoda convertible? a skip" gag was based, before VAG took over.

see also "why do Ladas have heated rear windscreens? to keep your hands warm while you're pushing it". Except Lada never got better.

How old are you? early to mid 40's onwards? yes Hora, bang on.
I can remember when Skoda's were cr@p. But see my comment above.

    john_drummer

    hairy, that's a "skip"

anyway, what do I know? My car is a Vectra with a Swedish bodykit on it; the last one was a beemer and the 2 before that were Alfas
