I suppose that depends on what time you get to St Malo/Cherbourg

I drove bradford -> dordogne a while back & it did take 2 days, but leaving bradford at 8am meant it was 2pm before I even got to folkestone

    REVOLUTION

    Anyone?

in this country? not a chance. As soon as anything kicks off, we'll all be at the back of the queue going "no, after you" and "shocking weather"

    Fouling somebody is cheating.

true, but that's why the ref and/or his/her assistants are supposed to give free kicks, that's what they're paid to spot. If they don't give a free kick then either (a) they didn't see it, (b) they didn't see the same thing the multiple replays did or (c) they'd been paid off, like a certain Greek official back in the early 70s

The foul by Terry on Milner was diabolocal, how the lad escaped without a broken leg I'll never know.

Ours is grasping Tory David Heathcoat Amory Who claimed for horse shit for his garden and is a euro sceptic but claims euro money for his Scottish estate!Trying to get him to do anything locally is a nightmare .I tried to get him to help hurry up the Wells to Cheddar cycle path but keep getting lame responses via his office

so vote against* him. Do nothing and he'll get in again

    * probably too late to stand against him, but you'll know what you have to do next time ;-)

never been, too far, too expensive.

Went to Reading once, 1986. Missed the bands I really wanted to see, apart from NMA (of course). By the time Sunday night came round I was shattered & slept through Saxon. No great loss I grant you but still, being able to sleep while that racket was on???

Don't vote it only encourages them

    that's what they're counting on.

As PeterPoddy said in another thread, people died so we could vote. Don't throw it away.

Question you have to ask yourself if you're not a "dyed-in-the-wool" voter: is your current MP standing for re-election? And if so, do you want him/her to carry on doing what he/she has been doing? If so, then you vote for the current MP; if not, vote for somebody else.

It might or might not make a difference in the scheme of things, but you're guaranteed NOT voting will NOT make any difference

    john_drummer

I will vote, if only for the fact that I will only have myself to blame if I don't do so & the lot that gets in start doing things that I don't like.

I live in a pretty marginal seat, but it's blue or red only here; yellow doesn't count – yet. (Currently blue but could go either way)

TBH in my opinion the best we can hope for is a hung parliament with LibDems holding the Kingmaker card. Labour as they are today are all washed up, but will "Call Me Dave" & his mob be any better? LibDems don't have a hope in hell of actually winning this election, but this country needs a credible alternative to the Labour/Conservative (non-)options

D-Day beaches if going from Cherbourg (or a slight detour from Le Havre) – Arromanches-les-bains is a must see if you're in the area

Cathedral of St Jacques in Chartres is quite nice.

lots of Neanderthal/early human stuff in St Eyzies le Tayac, in the Dordogne area.

while you're in Nice area, go visit Frejus – Roman amphitheatre & theatre are worth seeing; next door to Frejus is St Raphael, which is quite nice (but not) in Nice. Some good MTBing to be had in the Esterel massif between there and Cannes

DO NOT go to St Tropez by road. If you must go, get the ferry from St Raphael. But TBH there's not much there worth going for

    I'm fairly clueless about France

it's bigger than you think. St Malo/Cherbourg to Cote d'Azur is a long way, you probably will need 2 overnight stops in both directions.

despite what you may have heard, most French folks these days do speak English – but you may have to attempt to speak French to them first ;-)

last time I was there I could barely practice my French – as soon as I said the most basic sentence, I would get a reply in English – and better English than my French. If I'd started in English I probably would have got the old gallic shrug ;-)

just sold a house that I've been stuck with since 1990. I thought it was going to follow me to the grave

For me it's quite simple – my club comes first. Second is whoever are playing against ManU.
Third is Newcastle Utd as they are my wife's favourite team.

Country doesn't come into it. Ever.

Will I be supporting England at the world cup? Possibly, if I've nothing better to do. But if Leeds Utd were on one channel & England were on another, i'd be watching Leeds.

Club v country? Club every time

Blimey, you are a bloody poser aren't you?

    er, 'scuse me?

Did you not read what I said just before that? "Too expensive" were the words I think I used.

Look. I'm not going to buy a Toyota Pious. Too **** holier than thou, and that's just the owners. The other hybrids currently available in the UK are not suitable – either too big & expensive (Lexus) or too small (the rest).

I think I mentioned a f*cking big heavy bag of stands that I would rather not have to lift over a 3-4in lip in addition to getting up to height. In addition to that there are 7 drums, including the bass drum & floor tom, which between them take up the whole of the back seat.

I've had a 3 Series BMW Touring, the gap between the wheel arches was not physically wide enough for this bag of stands; the Saab I have now – which was £7k cheaper than the equivalent BMW, by the way – swallows it all nicely, with enough room for cymbals, 5 of the seven drums AND a guitar amp AND a view out of the back window.

I didn't even look at the current 3-series because I didn't want the initial outlay. Which also ruled out Audis (which I don't like anyway), Mercedes & all the other ponce-mobiles out there

so before you call me a poser again, come & lift this bag of stands into your choice of greenmobile – by yourself – and then think again about what you were going to say

You could just get a BMW

had one. Lovely car but not big enough, especially the boot. Too expensive too, now. Maybe the next 3-series… if they can sort out the rear wheel arches

IIRC Sky Broadband comes through the phone line, so your distance from the local exchange can make a huge difference.

We were on Tiscali via BT landline at 0.5MB. We're at most 3 miles from the exchange. When we asked about upgrading, Tiscali were surprisingly honest and told us the best we'd ever get (with the current network anyway) would be 1MB.

We're on cable now – Virgin 10MB. No problems to speak of – yet…

    ay up cock

support your english teams in europe, cocks.

when my english team is next playing in Europe, I gladly will. But as we're currently languishing in League One, it may be a while before I can do that.

In the meantime I'll happily congratulate any team (including my own!) that knocks ManU out of any cup competition (including the FA Cup, lol). Except maybe Millwall. I'd happily sit on the fence for that one.

anyway, I had a quick google. As far as I understand, at present there are 4 commercially available hybrid cars in the UK marketplace:

    Lexus – too expensive
    Prius – yuk
    Honda Civic – saloon only
    Honda Insight – see Prius

when Honda do a Civic Estate Hybrid (or better still, an Accord Estate hybrid), I'll think about it. Hopefully that'll be in about 3 years time, so there'll be some on the used car market when I come to trade in the Saab.

And another thing. Moving job to somewhere more local would be lovely, if I could find one, but I seem to have developed myself a 'niche' set of skills; moving to Barnsley is NOT an option!

there is a more fuel efficient route which involves going north to Otley then east to the A1, and then south. But it's almost double the distance.

I wouldn't have sold the car before taking delivery of the van.

If I had been foolish enough to do that, I'd suck it up & hire something.
