    2) trying to demolish a 1930s art deco landmark in favour of "hotel & office space"
    3) another hole in the ground

as a failed (well, not so much failed as lost-interest-and-couldn't-be-bothered, really) physicist, I'd recommend something by those fine chaps at Viz Magazine. It'll brighten up an otherwise dull life.

either that or a "teach yourself a musical instrument" type book… or something really exciting like a book on Marketing

Depends where you are. If you're in Leeds then try http://www.leedsmusicscene.net

If you're not in Leeds then I dunno

But I think most will actually require some work on your part

do you live in a university town?

I'm sure there are loads of students who'd be happy with a perfectly working TV for a small fee; I would have been when I was a student

check with the student onion, they should have a "for sale/wanted" newssheet kind of thing

like most people, if they don't suffer, they don't understand. I had a miserable childhood with it, started improving when I had some skin allergy tests to determine exactly what I'm allergic to, followed up by a series of desensitisation jabs, tailored to my particular problems.

It should have been 3x jabs over a 6 week period, 3 years running, but we (I was 15-16 at the time) moved house after year 2 and I never got the final year's jabs. That would've been 1981ish, then I went to uni; if i remember correctly, '87 was a really bad year.

Since I discovered Beconase about 5 years ago, I've been a happy spring bunny – apart from the heat. Oh well, you win some, you lose some…

FWIW for me it's grass & nettle pollen, plus house dust and house dust mite. cleaning house is not a good job…

listening to the results of 3 solid days in the studio. it's very good, but I'll have to be the judge of that for now…

I have our song "Everknowing" making itself known in my head. It's going to be an earworm 🙂

actually, the whole thing reminds me of an incident in a nightclub in Wakefield many years ago…

I was out with my sister and her boyfriend, and somehow he got talking to another woman; we were 'goths' and this lady – and her bloke – weren't.
Anyway, Ed was basically taking the mickey out of her for reasons best known to himself, and she clearly wasn't enjoying it.
Boyfriend steps up "you chatting up our lass?" "no" says Ed; "why not? You think she's ugly?", followed by a nice right hook…

damned if you do, damned if you don't

we still occasionally get mail for the previous occupant.

We moved in here in 1998…

it goes in the bin now.

If they can't be bothered to tell their bank (as that's who it's from) that they've moved then I can't be bothered to redirect it. besides, in 12 years, how do I know they haven't moved again?

i am about to have some wine. THEN I'll have some beer.

Just spent all day in the recording studio, I'm knackereerererered and sweaty, but my work is now done and my drums are packed away. Guitarists' & singist's turns tomorrow, then mixerist on Sunday.

Then a sample might be on myspace afterwards, or we might wait until the artwork is done and do a proper release across iTunes, Amazon, Napster et al afterwards.

    no fish in a pond that small – you do mean 2.5ft x 1.5ft x 1ft?

if you meant metres that's a different story. Fish. with an associated filtration system

I remember a neighbouring family, she was English, he Spanish, name of Juan pronounced in the usual Spanish way

They had a son and decided to name him after his dad. Except they anglicised it…

so somewhere in Wakefield there's a bloke in his late 30s called "Juan", half-rhyming with "ruin" because they thought it would be too hard for the locals to pronounce…

"ey up fella, what's tha name"
    "Jewan"
    "Jewan?"
    "yeah"
    "spell it for me"
    "J-U-A-N"

    "oooh, you mean 'hwan'?"
    "no, that's me dad's name"

    FFS 🙄

Automatic For The People was the first album I bought on CD

Suede – latest CD I bought, the one with Animal Nitrate on. There's a new record shop at the Xscape retail park in Cas Vegas, selling off old CDs for as little as £1.99 or 3 for a fiver. I assume it's old Zavvi stock…

cool, come along & introduce yourself. I'm the fat one with drum sticks 😉

we have to take a short break now as our bass player needs surgery on his wrists – carpal tunnel syndrome; but we're back in August, as indicated on the Myspace page

I'm trying to get some gigs sorted elsewhere in the North but these things take time. Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Barnsley, York, Wakefield, Doncaster etc – the sort of places we can get to in time to soundcheck after a full day's work.

Bradford's banned though. nobody plays out

    close enough 🙂
Singer (and principal writer) is into Joy Division, The Sound, The Chameleons, FOTN, NMA etc
I'm into NMA, Chameleons, FOTN, Sisters etc
bassist is into old school punk, The Jam, Big Country
other guitarist (blutac from on here) is into blues.

mix it up & make it nice 😉
We're working on a cover of Transmission. We did play with "A Forest" but his voice isn't whiney enough 😉

Don't know about Altered States though. We've also been likened to Editors, Interpol, and you might hear some Killing Joke in my drumming

in the studio this weekend so more to come…

    All About Eve (AAE)

but of course, I haven't forgotten about these, I still listen now.

Kings of the Wild Frontier must hold the record for the shortest time span between being the most desirable album ever to being the most embarassing album ever.

I know, it was a real shame. But listen to it now and, with the possible exception of Jolly Roger & Magnificent 5, it's still very very good. Ants Invasion in particular

Floodland, Love & Children are ok (well, Love is excellent), but IMO the following are better – perhaps it's the dreaded "second album syndrome" that's letting the above down 😉

Sisters: First & Last & Always
    The Cult: Dreamtime
    The Mission: God's Own Medicine

some second albums that didn't suffer from SAS:
Stiff Little Fingers – Nobody's Heroes
    Nirvana – Nevermind
New Model Army – No Rest For The Wicked
