Nah I wouldn’t say Biffy were a Nirvana tribute act (even though Simon has an In Utero tatt).. some of their stuff was a bit grungey, but the majority of their early output didn’t really resemble like Nirvana.. asides from being a hairy 3 piece that is..

Very few bands remain good during their rise into popularity IMO.

Radiohead, Arcade Fire and Yeah Yeah Yeahs have all managed it (again IMO)

A lot of bands seem to leave their indie label and sign for a major, then get pushed into producing something with mass appeal.

If Biffy hadn’t changed like they did, they’d have probably gone the way of Reuben, Hundred Reasons, Hell is for Heroes etc.

    Agree with andeh..

Biffy used to be amazing, first 3 albums were inventive and awesome.. now just a bland Foo Fighters tribute act.

Same with Muse, Origin of Symmetry was amazing, turned into a Queen tribute act recently.

Just noticed they’re back down to the original prices (£9 and £18) if anyone missed out on them last time..

what do you reckon is the quickest way to get up to speed on a bike?
Say from a stopped start at a traffic light

Personally wouldn’t take the risk of having my chain snap with traffic around me.

On a quiet road prob middle ring and flick through the gears at the back.

I’ve been running a set of these Ebay Mosso ones for about 2 years, mainly road use tho they are meant for mtbs.

Cost around £40, alloy so less forgiving than steel. v light tho.

Yep, think it’s rife in pretty much every sport.. I remember reading an interview with a blood doping expert (don’t think it was Ashenden?) who was highly skeptical of the recent Olympics, and strongly implied that he believed that a lot of performances were highly suspect and testing inadequate.

The reason cycling has all the scandals is simply because it has the most advanced drugs testing. Rugby, football, tennis etc would be screwed if they had the same level of testing.

Maybe Ray Mears too. Loads of interesting stories.

I dunno, whenever the camera pans away from him and whichever local guest he’s sat round the camp fire with, the conversation looks awkward as f***.. am sure he’s a nice guy tho..

Personally I’d go for any celebrity that

    A) I like their work.
    B) They’re passionate about what they do.
    C) They’re intelligent.
    D) Up for a few beers.

I’m glad he did this interview for the simple reason that it’s shown the whole world exactly what kind of person he actually is.

not realy sure what folk want from Wigins

    Four things I’d like:

    1. For him to be openly critical of riders who have doped regardless if they are still in the peloton. He only criticises riders once they are retired or are dead and buried like Ricco.

    2. Him (and all other riders) to have all their blood passport data available for experts and the public alike to view.

    3. To give regular interviews to Kimmage, Lemond, Ashenden etc – these guys are doing more to save the sport than the majority of the peloton – they are acknowledging cycling has a major problem and are doing their best to fix it. Without people like these, Armstrong would have got away with it. If we don’t learn from the past, then there is no hope for cycling.

    4. To give samples which can be stored and tested for an indefinite period. History teaches us that we probably can’t test for the latest methods of doping yet.

As a fan I’m just sick of every new generation claiming to be the new clean era, and getting let down time and time again. Transparency is key.

If Wiggins is serious about being clean, then he needs to be totally transparent and release his blood data from the last few seasons. He was pretty high on the leaked UCI suspicious list, and somehow went from 134th in the 2008 TDF to finishing 4th (now upgraded to 3rd) the next year, finishing amongst known dopers. Many of his supposed 100% clean team have now been proven to have pretty murky pasts.

As someone who earns very good money out of the sport he needs to give something back – cycling fans have been let down too many times in the past with claims of a clean new era – if he is completely transparent with his data then this would go someway to help rebuilding the sport.

Least: Michael Macintyre. Nothing more than a hair cut.

In fairness to Millar, with the exception of him not criticising any suspected/convicted current riders in the peloton (Contador etc), he is pretty open about his own doping – appearing on Hardtalk etc is fair bit more cutting than Oprah’s going to be.

Appreciate he does go on a bit, but I have more respect for Garmin for their openness, realism and honesty, than I do for Sky or any other team.

Either way, he’s an amazing rider and tactician – winning the World Champs in 2011 was a large part down to his reading of the race.

It’s probably cos they’ve sold out of the items stocked by Play, and so it’s defaulting to the 3rd party seller who sells the item at a higher price.

Thanks dufresneorama – got 3 pairs of shorts and a fleece for a grand total of £26 posted!

Shorts are here if anyone wants to take a punt on them for £6 http://www.play.com/Sports-Outdoors/Sports/4-/33755759/-/Product.html

I’m betting on a feelings not mutual. I can’t think of a single time either my friends or I have got into a relationship with any girls who we’ve been close friends with for years. Slept with / kissed etc when drunk, just never leads to anything more, normally you’re “just friends” for a reason. Hope wellwellwell proves me wrong tho!

Thanks for the advice – will try that.

If I do go for the new phone deal with Three through the third party, does anyone know what the procedure is for getting my old number working on the new phone?

To me, looks pretty similar to the NATPC M009S one on Amazon – I’ve got one, for the money they’re great.

Smaller than an iPad, but about a fifth of the price

Before anyone moves in take several photos of every room so you can prove any potential damage occurred after the tenant moved in, in the case of any disputes.

Were you awake or asleep when it happened? I was diagnosed epileptic at 15, but only ever had fits whilst asleep.. dunno if I’ve grown out of it as haven’t had one in about 6/7 years.. doesn’t alter my lifestyle at all, just means taking a couple of tablets a day..

Think there’s loads of different types of epilepsy, some brought on by strobe lighting, others by stress/tiredness/overheating etc.

They’ll do some tests on you, few scans etc under different conditions (strobe lighting etc) etc to see what causes various electrical activity in your brain and then advise you based on that.

But yeah, doesn’t have to affect your life, I got lucky – has no bearing on my life whatsoever.

My main issue with the conflict is the moment anyone shows any degree of sympathy for the Palestinian’s plight, they are labelled as terrorist sympathisers and anti semitic.

I personally have nothing against any individual regardless of their religion or skin colour – but over the years the Israeli actions against the Palestinians are pretty disproportionate – compare the number of casualties on both sides.

The Palestinians are oppressed 24/7 – being treated like livestock, denied access to medical supplies and forced to go through checkpoint after checkpoint at gun point just to function in every day life. I’m sure if the same conditions were imposed on people from this country then some of us would retaliate. I’m not justifying the Palestinian actions – any loss of life is totally inexcusable – however the extremists only launch rockets and commit acts of terrorism in what they see as a last resort.
