I know it is a bit late but what is Gareth Southgate actual job? He mainly picks the same team to keep things consistent which I get, but what I dont get is persisting with players who rarely play for their club teams, who cant be match fit. What is he actually doing?

agree with companies sponsoring riders. If you want more outside sponsors you need more coverage. current format with 8 per year is a poor return. bit of a catch 22 though as you need the sponsors to increase the coverage in the first place

No problem watching it. Most of my sport watching requires subscriptions so I’m not incurring any extra cost.
Comms fine. some cutaways too to explain things with Josh Carlson which is good for the casual viewer.

I’d bin off the semis and try to reduce the number of people entering and repeatedly failing to qualify so we can get more races. 40 racers and 16 events?

Also the calendar being spread out in the northern hemisphere is going to cause issues with the weather. Mont St Anne may be interesting.

Enduro seems to have become a side show.

KTM use steel for the Moto Gp bikes chassis, despite having suspension costing 6 figures. They’ve probably spent way more on R&D than the entire mtb industry. Suspension is pretty pants on a non vertical plane, so the chassis allows it to maintain some give and avoid chatter. It allows them to adapt it a lot easier than alloy. Carbon can do that depending on the layering.

It’s like having spokes too tight on a wheel.

I think my sram x01 is a lot more refined than the clunky 2022 XT 12 speed stuff on the other bike.

I am a sram fan though so look to fault shimano more.

the Twitter thread is the best summary and should just be the be all and end all.

It probably has made a difference to overall speeds and therefore improved road safety. People may not stick to the limit, but they may not stick to 30mph either so instead of 35mph they’re doing 27mph or something.

Got to be a good thing. 30mph is completely arbitrary anyway.

Quad and Hamstring strength is key. Cycling was very good for recovery and keeping strong (best thing initially was hydrotherapy).
If I dont do any exercise for a bit I notice that my ACL isn’t right and i get the odd wobble. Not stopped me doing anything though.

Agree you need to reallocate road space. How do you make the changes though? Unless they’re sitting on heaps of LTP or S106, then the pay outs they have had from recent funds is probably minimal.

Riding through a local town I got shouted at to “get on the bike path” (as you do) which was a bit confusing as there wasn’t one.. but a bit of digging has shown the digging on the footpath is to turn it into a shared use path. Normally I’d be in favour of more infrastructure, but this path goes down a fairly fast hill, right outside shop entrances, and squeezes through narrow gaps.

This image is from a few weeks ago..

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/5wPmBu4bKnmt5vn99

Surely this is going to be a nightmare for accidents/conflict? Or maybe bikes right outside shops is a normal pattern?

Shouldn’t really be turning those footways into shared use. Too much chance of conflict. Heaps of carriageway space though. Sadly probably no money.

Late watching the replay. Quite insane that riders 9 to 6 on start list all stacked? I think. Williams, Kerr, Daprella, Isles…

Really enjoyed it. Thought Donaghue was brilliant as co commentator. Really enjoyed all of it to be honest, exactly the usual Fort Bill race i’d expect

Not sure it’s that insane? the riders in the hot seat had come down in better conditions meaning the better seeded had to take more risks in the unknown and predictably crashed. It’s quite insane that Charlie Hatton, Kold and Greenland made it through!

    Working line black lab

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CvKB52qNLEh/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Everyone you meet will tell you labs are the best 🙂

yeah they’re the best. They’re quite happy being hosed off all winter. Malt all year but dont stink too bad. Not sure size is an issue

Love our working black lab but I made a mistake thinking that they’re chill and then go when you want. Not sure you can leave any dog without some exercise a day OP. They need their work. Learnt quite a lot about them and how to engage their brains such as waiting to fetch, memory retrieves etc to reduce the amount of walking needed.

It’s a mistake to think they’re easy though. they can be units and can be boisterous, potentially knocking people over. a cockapoo etc owner has no such worries and they can get away with all sorts of misbehaviour.

Having said that most are fine and they respond to training well.

I think another unspoken assumption here seems to be that a trans-woman winning a womens’ event is automatically unfair

I mean, if 1 in every 100 women was trans, you’d expect 1 in 100 womens’ events to be won by a trans woman, all else equal

And some of the highest performing cis-women may well have higher testosterone levels than trans-women — is that unfair on women with lower levels?

There is also the flip side to this, which is that if, on average, trans-women have lower testosterone than cis-men (and even before transitioning), then it is also unfair (for them) if they have to compete against these cis-men

To be clear I’m not even trying to argue against the UCI here. But I think the situation is way more complex than most people realise.

athletic ability and fitness aren’t completely defined by testosterone levels. It is not a case of who has the highest level of testosterone wins (in male sport).

The issue is that male and female bodies develop differently. Some of those changes will not go away just be removing T.

The only people that should really debating this are cis-women athletes as it impacts them the most.

I feel the recent discourse around Trans is pretty unpleasant and I feel for them. Who in their right mind would want to go through that. But having their cake and eating it at the expense of others doesnt seem fair.

Perez is a journeyman.  Decent but never going to be up with the likes of Max etc.  He’s having a great time in a great car.  RB shouldn’t care but they want more.

The full strip down is possible with some bodged tools etc.

For the sake of £50 though, just buy a brand x and be done.  Even after i ‘fixed’ it, it only lasted a couple of months and i spent a few hours working on it.

this thread and link within is what i used as a guide.

Reverb B1 (non-stealth) – dropping under load, and fixing it.

the bleeding is a pain and has to be done thoroughly according to the instructions.  The sag issue needs the post to be taken apart as air has got past the piston seal.  No idea why they persist with the fluid mechanism to activate it.

Bin it and buy a brand x.

Park Guell is a heap of shit and it will be baking.  Sagrada famila again feels hellish.

I’d personally leave most of the tourist stuff and spend my time wondering old streets looking for old stuff and eating and drinking.   Maybe hire a bike.

out and out laptimes dont really make a difference to the observer so it’s best to limit spend and get more cars on the grid. Loved P1’s but they were spending silly money and net result is Toyota in their own class.

The pugs wont make it past half way. They’ve been pretty diabolical so far despite competing for nearly a year now. No amount of BoP in their favour will help them if they can’t finish.

Toyota are a well oiled machine now against teams who have just stepped back in and will be finding their way a bit.

i bought a value gravel bike once. Slow on road and crap off road. I’m sure if it was lighter at least the road part would be better but that would cost lots. Prefer my hardtail.

didn’t Rob Warner mention last year his at one point that up until then his videos had made him £46?

sounds like you need to merchandise your brand and beg for patreon to make a living.

Then you need to make content all the time which must be annoying.

    No thanks… i did a Vitus demo day… i wouldn’t have one if it were free 😀

lmao. you’re hilarious. literally all the reviews by people who can actually ride a bike think they’re decent. And the spec is second to none for the cost. So the alternative is an older trek with a RS 35?! doesnt really matter, they’re all way more capable than you and the majority

They’re great as a second bike.

The weight isn’t an issue anywhere and You get more riding in. Don’t know what you rode before but newer ones with up to date geo and suspension are fine. And if there is a negative in tighter stuff, it’s small and more than made up for by being able to ride far more, far quicker.

Riding a manual bike after is no problem either. It’s still fun and doesnt feel terrible.

Look at the Vitus too. much better value.

I use Teng or Beta for my karting. Nice bits of kit. You can also buy individually, so perhaps a 4,5 and 6 would be a good start?

Expensive park ones should also be fine. my multi tool one must be well over twenty years old and the edges are still angled.

I’m not sure I like any of them that much. Which is wherein the problem lies. Getting rid of keavenaugh was the start of the problems. The rest take what they’re doing to importantly. Did you know Steve Lamaq is solely responsible for indie?

Have you demo’d a full fat eeb OP?

Must admit I’m ebike curious. The Whyte, as above, was great to have a go on. Just trying to work out if the middle weight ones have any point. They don’t go as far and the whyte felt on part with a normal bike on the descents.

I’d probably keep the normal bike for days out with mates, but for solo riding I’d just use the ebike in boost i reckon.

Stick at it. They’ll want you semi rehabbed ahead of the op anyway.
When i did my acl I stuck at the physio and exercise. Never had reconstruction surgery. Best thing they did for me was the hydrotherapy pools.

    joefm

OP – How much physio are you actually doing? Have you been given exercises? Even if they diagnose a tear and say surgery, you’re on another waiting list and then a period of recovery/rehab.
My advice would be to do as much physio as you can to rehab it if you can. you may not even need surgery (would be good for surgery too). You’d be surprised.

Active travel, green energy is just lip service from this government. Still over £40bn for road building in the capital budget, yet new active travel gets pittance, especially when you spread that over 40 authorities

not sure I’d be happy spending more than 50% of the value of the car on a repair but once it’s done it should be good for a few years at least. If you’re planning on changing car sometime soon that may change perspectives. Try and get a quote from elsewhere though!

I enjoyed it and glad that the infected were at the periphery tbh. It’s 20 years on. the last episode flew past. the end credits came up and i thought we were only 30 mins in.
Shootout scene was, er, interesting. The fireflies must have been terrible shots
